Are just enough to drop some light rain across the bay area. This is the first in a series of three storm systems ill be tracking as we go throughout the week. The center of low pressure still to the north of us and some of the rain has been cons administrated over the bay areas north of San Francisco while we did have have a quick passing shower over san jose. Were not seeing a lot going on right here now but we will start to tap into some deeper moisture as we go through the day that could bring in more widespread rain for areas north of the Golden Gate Bridge. And then well start to see the radar filling in just a bit as we go through the day with this system being a fairly weak one when you consider that we do have some heavier and more widespread rain on the way for midweek. Ill talk about that timeline and how much rain we could see coming up a little bit later. Thanks so much, kari. Now to a story nbc bay area broke for you last week. Good news for a neighborhood of about 200 homes in the santa cruz mountains. People were bracing to be blocked in or blocked out of their neighborhoods by state and county crews rushing to finish these, all of these storm repairs. But now it looks like a resolution is helping them move things along. Nbc bay areas kris sanchez has been on the phone all morning long. Shes live in los gatos with new details on how theyre going to work things out. Reporter hi there, laura. As you mentioned, this is a story weve been following since friday and in the last hour and a half i confirmed that caltrans and Santa Clara County are going to be able to work their schedules out so that about 200 homes in this neighborhood will not be blocked out by construction. I talked joanna cruz of caltrans district 5. She tells me their work has to be done during the day because fixing the flippouts requires the workers to be on a vertical slope and you can understand why they cant do that in the dark. That closure from 6 00 a. M. To 6 00 p. M. On bear creek road will go on as scheduled, but Santa Clara County is able to shift their work on black road and bear creek road to next week and work on winter storm repairs on gist road and elsewhere. That will open up black road as an alternate route for skyline boulevard in the meantime and it should be done by next week, that will help, too. That is a relief for folks like kim owens who nearly couldnt leave her neighborhood this morning and was worried about what would happen in an emergency. In the bear fire, when we were evacuating we were afraid of how we going to get out with onelane roads everywhere and the fire trucks going up and that kind of thing. Its really frustrating when we have appointments like this with our animals or doctors appointments and they wont let us out or back in. Reporter now, kim owens home is one of about 171 homes in that neighborhood that would have been landlocked, as she put it. She and other neighbors told nbc bay area that they just really wanted the agencies to work together. Now it seems they finally are. In los gatos, kris sanchez, today in the bay. Okay, kris, thank you. As new storms move in, a new set of concerns for people in the north bay affected by those wildfires and attention turning to the roads in the fire damaged areas. Nbc bay areas pete suratos is live in santa rosa. Pete, this could be a potential problem as that wet weather continues to come. Reporter yeah, good morning to you, marcus. Certainly so it could become an issue for folks out here as that rain has really been on and off in the past hour here in the county grove area of santa rosa. The Biggest Issue were talking about is the underground piping that has been damaged as a result of the north bay wildfires, causing some issues for that area. Thats why officials are keeping an eye out for sinkholes and possibly mud slides as a result. We reported it out this morning but a road closure is in place at cross creek road, about a milelong stretch. Folks can now drive through there through sky farm and Thomas Lake Harris drive. Several sections of pipe damaged in that area according to santa rosa officials. That threat was major enough, officials decided to reactivate the Emergency Operations center as a result of all of this. We did get a chance to speak to a homeowner in the area about this current predicament, adding another concern for homeowners following those wildfires. Theres been a lot of uncertainty about this and i think this is obviously New Territory for everybody. Nobodys been through this before. This is a magnitude no ones ever seen before. And so there is just so much precautionary work. Reporter a lot of precautionary work, indeed. A sink doing hole did open up in the Fountain Grove area. Crews were able to fix it. We did speak to officials this morning who said crews are already identifying more than 20 issues santa rosa regarding damage to that underground piping. In san jose, an overnight standoff is over, ending in one womans arrest. We brought you live breaking coverage of this story this morning on today in the bay. The standoff lasted for nearly nine hours near the san jose country club. Police say neighbors were arguing and at one point a woman had a gun. She surrendered peacefully earlier this morning and no one was hurt. Supreme court has agreed to hear a case concerning a California Law that deals with abortions. Governor brown signed the law in 2015. It requires that all counselling centers tell people about free or lowcost access to Services Like contraception and abortion. That requirement extends to centers run by churches. Challenging that requirement, saying the law forces them to communicate a message that is offensive to their belief. Also new, a disturbing crime on a bus. San Francisco Police are reporting that six teenagers got on a bus early monday morning sunday morning i should say near mcal stir and fill more. One suspect splaed the rider with air freshener and another slapped the phone out of his hand. Another rider tried to intervene and got punched in the face. So far no arrests. New details now on the arrest of three ucla basketball players in china. A new report out just hours ago says President Trump got involved. The shoplifting event happened last week while the president was in china. The Washington Post reports that mr. Trump personally asked chinas president to intervene. As is always the case in these disasters, officials expect the casualties to rise when search and rescue teams search through areas most affected by the earthquake. Its in these remote areas where houses are made of mud bricks can crumble easily, trapping people underneath them. This powerful earthquake was felt in several prove assess of iran, but the hardest hit area is about ten miles from the iraqi border. Iranian Emergency Services says the main hospital there was severely damaged and couldnt treat hundreds of injured people who were taken there. Electrici electricity has also been caught off in several iranian and iraqi cities and fears of aftershocks sent thousands of people in both countries out into the streets in the cold huddled together underneath blankets. The irani the the iran red crescent says that about 70,000 people were in need of emergency shelters. Now iran sits aside a major fault line and is prone to frequent tremors. Happening today, there is a key deadline for victims of the north bay wildfires. People living in napa county have until 5 00 tonight to decide whether they will use the government or a private program to help clean up ash and debris r. Debris. Today is the deadline for the government option in show sonoma county. November 22nd is the deadline for the private option, according to the democrats. Firefighters on the front lines of north bay wildfires face serious dangers. Even though the flames are out, there is concern of longterm health. Hundreds of those firefighters will be tested this week to see if they suffered from any toxic exposure while fighting the north bay wildfires. They expect to take blood and urine samples from 200 of the firefighters. The san jose commission could create an Advisory Committee to address noise. Todays agenda including the discussion and possible action on concerns in the community that the airport planes are just too loud. The agenda also lists a discussion over security concerns. And two bay area sports stars are among gq magazine men of the year. Colin kaepernick has been named gq citizen of the year. He tweeted he is honored by this. It looks pretty good out there and looks beautiful at people are heading out, taking pictures and at times weve seen some rainbows around the bay area because of the off and on rain. Here is a live look outside in palo alto and it is very nice. Now we are also getting some dry weather as we take a live look outside in fremont and our temperatures have started to warm up just a bit but weve also had some rain very close by as we are seeing a lot of this moisture moving in. Some splotches of green here on the radar indicating a weak weather system bringing a little bit of rain. Sevenday forecast coming up at the bottom of the screen. Well have some showers as we go through the rest of the week. Looking at most of the rain now in the north bay and parts of northern napa and sonoma counties. The rain moving through, its been fairly light and fairly scattered. Thats the nature of the rain well see today. Reaching into the upper 60s with our temperatures. Up to 65 in cupertino and for the east bay, expect a high of 67 degrees in walnut creek and mid60s in oakland today. 65 degrees in redwood city. San francisco, 63 degrees on the embarcadero and also for the north bay looking at some low 60s today with those times of rain. Well start to see the radar filling in just a little bit more, especial for areas north of the Golden Gate Bridge as we go into this afternoon and the evening. But we can all see a quick few light passing showers. On wednesday, well have a more significant storm moving in bringing us a chance of more wide spread rain starting out late on wednesday into early thursday. We can see that rain off and on for several hours, even lingering into early friday morning before this storm system tapers off and then well be awaiting a third one on sunday. Just looking at how much rain we can see between now and the storm system by the end of the week, we may see over an inch of rain in parts of the north bay and also for the santa cruz mountains. For the inland area, i think it will be closer to 1 2 an inch of rain but thats something well be watching as we get a lot more rain moving in. Hopefully that gets us caught up as far as the normal amount of rain because its been so dry recently. A little bit of rain today, dry tomorrow and the more significant storm moving in between wednesday evening and early thursday. Friday and saturday looking dry and then on sunday another round of rain. And testimonies staying fairly mild, mostly in the low to mid60s.
