San Francisco Police are saying the shooting took place just after midnight. Officers working their beat in the Castro District on halloween night and they were flagged down by someone who said there was a suspicious car in the area that we just showed you off of 18th and diamond. When they approached the car, they said gunfire was exchanged between the male suspect and the officer, resulting in gun shot wounds to one officer and the suspect. Now its the number of gunshots that really has everyone in the area talking. We had a chance to speak to one resident who heard it all and was expecting the worst. First i thought, you know, its halloween in the castro. After what happened in new york, maybe there was some sort of, you know, shooter. But definitely, you know, a lot of shots. It was not just your typical, you know, exchange from my experience at least. Reporter as we all know, halloween a fairly busy night here in the Castro District. I want to point out the officer is 41 years old that was shot. The crime scene investigator, what were being told by San Francisco miss, he was here since police increased patrols due to the large crowds we see here on halloween. Now its unknown exactly who fired the shots first. All of this is under investigation by san Francisco Police and the d. A. s office. Were live in the Castro District. You may recall back in 2006 a fire broke out a fight broke out, i should say. Nine people were shot. Now at the time the halloween festivities were a citysanctioned event. After that shooting, the city stopp stopped sanctioning it. Work continues this morning following a big fire that broke out on the train tracks overnight. This is what firefighters had to deal with this morning. We brought you these images during today in the bay. Nbc bay area kris sanchez live there right now to give us an update on this story. Kris . Seven hours after that fire started out here on the rails outside of willow glen, there are inspectors still on the rail lines right now trying to make sure it is structurally sound before Union Pacific trains start rolling through here again. There is the one that caltrain uses and the wooden one that Union Pacific uses, and thats the one that seems to be damaged after this fire just after 3 30 this morning. Firefighters had to out within about 45 minutes, but by then the damage was done. A 200 stretch of wooden trestle was burned. Union pacific inspectors are checking the Structural Integrity still eight hours after the fire. The caltrain track was cleared if the repairs ultimately take awhile, they could end up using the same line. It wouldnt be something too bad. I mean, we expect minor delays, but nothing more than a few minutes. Reporter now, there is no immediate cause for the fire at this point, but san jose fire captain tells me his crews were out here in the same spot just about a year ago with a fire related to a homeless emcampment here and says it was not the first time. The Union Pacific spokesman told me the railway is private property and in fact Union Pacific police reminded us of that this morning, anyone camping there or living there is trespassing. Official says that saipov is showing no remorse and in fact boasting about the terrorist attack yesterday which killed eight people and left another 11 hurt. It appears that mr. Saipov had been planning this for a number of weeks. He did this in the name of isis. Reporter investigators today are learning everything they can about 29yearold sayfullo saipov. The uzbekistan native is accused of mowing down pedestrians and bikers on manhattans west side. This was a heinous attack that resulted in eight deaths and serious injuries. Reporter charlotte after 3 00 tuesday afternoon, Authorities Say saipov drove a pickup truck he rented at a new jersey home depot on to a bike path in lower manhattan. It sped down the path for more than ten blocks, leaving twisted bicycles and bodies in its wake before crashing into a school bus. Jumped out of the truck with what appeared to be two weapons. Witnesses say he yelled allahu akbar. Parents watching with their children terrified as school was letting out for the day. I was just pushing kids back to school. Firefighters quickly arrived on the scene. Luckily no one was hurt, but we know now that four people, four adults, two pets have been displaced. The cause of that fire is under investigation.
