incident right now. we will send it over to you, i think things are calmer on the weather center. >> starting out this morning not as cold but we are also starting out with clear skies and it will be a nice and warm day. looking at those temperatures as you get ready to head out the door it's in the low 50s in san jose, look at how cold it is in napa, we've dropped down to 40 degrees, with he will see upper 30s there within the next several hours and then we are going to see the highs rise into the mid 80s today. it's going to be a touch warmer than it was yesterday, san francisco up to 71 degrees. we will take a closer look at this coming up in just a few minutes. >> thank you very much, kari and mike. now for the latest developments out of las vegas. a live look at the mandalay bay hotel this morning where new clues are emerging after that shooting took the lives of 58 people. we're learning more chilling details about attack. >> "today in the bay's" cheryl hurd is in las vegas with what we now know what happened before and during the massacre. >> reporter: police called stephen paddock disturbed and dangerous. the sheriff says he spent decades acquiring weapons and ammo and living a secret life. >> anything that would indicate this individual's trigger points and that would cause him to do such harm, we haven't understood it yet. >> reporter: law enforcement now understands how long it took them to get to paddock after he fired the first shot. >> at 10:05 the first shots fired by the suspect. >> reporter: police say the last shots were fired by the suspect at 10:15. three minutes later an officer radioed in saying he was shot and gives the exact location of the suspect's room. >> between 10:26 and 10:30 eight additional officers arrived on the 32nd floor and began to move down the hallway clearing each room and looking for any injured people. >> it took officers 25 minutes to reach paddock's room, at 11:20 officers rushed in and he was on the ground dead, the entire process taking 1 hour and 15 minutes. >> this individual was able to move this amount of gear into a hotel room unassisted. >> reporter: did paddock have an accomplice? the investigates are not saying and they admit they may not have the entire story. >> i resolve we will get to the bottom of this no matter how long this takes. >> reporter: cheryl hurd. we are going to contra costa sheriff's deputy ricardo perez. perez resigned last year after accusations that he had sex with 19-year-old jasmine abouslet who was underage at the time. perez pled not guilty. the judge this thursday morning. right now we want to take a look at what's going on on 101. there was a crash. >> a closure now. there was a patrol vehicle involved crash. that's what we know. we don't know what agency that patrol vehicle belongs to. here is pete's shot. pete suratos arrived on scene. confirmed veteran is a good alternate for you. i'm walking through this live shot just as you are. we are looking at the center divide southbound 101, that tow truck is there hooking up that vehicle. we are looking at the tow truck driver looking things up. doesn't look like they're taking care of any sort of spill or injuries at this present time. we will get more details on this crash. southbound 101 between whipple and woodside since about 3:15 this morning. that is the issue. that's the reason the freeway is closed, but you see chp still also has those lanes fully closed to traffic and they may be possibly continuing to gather evidence. we will get more detail from pete suratos who is on scene. we will get you oriented to where this closure is. you notice the entire bay shows an easy drive except for right here on the peninsula, southbound 101 closed from whipple avenue to woodside road, that is one exit, take veterans back over toward woodside road where you can get back on to the southbound direction of the bay shore freeway. that continues with the investigation on the peninsula. in the east way there is a separate issue -- two separate issues. eastbound highway 4 at hillcrest a crash involving a big rig blocking two lanes, i don't see any slowing. westbound in the same area at hillcrest there is your slow lane blocked and that continues with slowing coming off of the antioch bridge, that's the early slow down for antioch. heading over toward the bay bridge it's an easy clear drive, 14 minutes from highway 4 to the toll plaza. a quick look at the toll plaza does reveal do you see those lanes at the bottom, those are your cash lanes, but i see folks shifting out of the hov lane, i want to check what's going on there at the bay bridge toll plaza. i can clearly see the east shore freeway so no fog right there. >> i can see, parker the spider, too, on that shot. san francisco very thin marine layer returning bringing a low level fog to the golden gate bridge. elsewhere we are looking at some mostly clear skies, cool temperatures, too, especially for the north bay again this morning. so indeed it feels like fall as you get ready to head out and napa right now it's only 40 degrees. while we do have some low 50s south of there and oakland right now at 52 degrees with our high temperatures in the south bay today up to 85 in morgan hill, milpitas up to 83 degrees and downtown san jose at 82. then some mid 80s for concord as well as danville, a little bit warmer today than it was yesterday, that's going to be the trend into the weekend. in hayward expect a high of 79 degrees, also 79 in san mateo and in san francisco the embarcadero at 71 degrees, 83 today in novato, sapt rosa look for a high of 84 degrees. standing in front of the closet like what am i going to wear today, it's a good day to try to stay warm. something like a hat and then also some pants or some long sleeves will keep you warm at least to start out the day, but there will be a wide range in temperatures so you do have to be prepared for it all. if you are planning to go out jogging this morning in san francisco, our temperatures start out in the low 50s and then rising into the upper 60s as we go through the day. more weather coming up in a few minutes. >> inks that a one. three jail deputies were convicted of beating tyree, which eventually led to his death. turning to bart's plan to extend into downtown san jose, today santa clara valley transportation leaders will discuss the tunnels that is going to be built under downtown. this is part of bart's second phase of the project to san jose, it includes a five mile long subway tunnel that will part at the allen rock station and run all the way to santa clara cal tran station near san jose airport. today officials will discuss how to dig that tunnel. you may recall we've been telling you about the caltrain asking for your input on how to store bikes on its new fleet of trains once that system goes all electric. today the transit agency will officially adopt a plan. we will find out what that plan is during the board of directors meeting in san carlos at 10:00 today. laura, a lot of people know her as mom, i call her super woman, but today you're doing something else after the show. >> that's right. i'm the emcee of this year's women of impact luncheon in san jose. not me but we're honoring a lot of other women, a great event that spotlights and honors women who make positive
