the excessive heat can be most dangerous for adults over 65 according to the cdc. let's get a check on that heat right now. vianey, as you know, we are in a micro climate weather alert and seen a lot of record-breaking temperatures and the air quality is really bad out there. >> it is expected to remain bad today. even though we are seeing a slight cooling and a lot more folks are going to be out along the coast, please keep in mind na it that it is still going to be hot specially for some inland areas. we have some significant changes for some areas. we have tropical moisture from tropical storm lydia that could bring the chance for a few pop-up showers. the peninsula is at 82 and the south bay at 85 and the tri-valley at 73. san francisco, 71. the north bay is at about 64 degreesme degrees. i do want to remind folks we have a couple of heat advisories in effect and heat warnings. it was across the board. that has been downgraded to a heat advisory specifically for the coast an inner bay. this is going to be until, as of now, it looks like this evening or later part of tonight possibly. i do want to remind folks that even then it is still going to be fairly hot, in the 80s, 90s, and some spots even though we are seeing the slight cooling. there is still enhanced fire danger. let's take a look at some of the 24-hour temperature changes. a bridge of high pressure that's been warming us up and bringing the hot heat is finally starting to shift east. that's what's bringing a couple of changes to the area. inland spots, still fairly warmer. areas along the coast like san francisco, no big change there over the past 24 hours. that means we do have a couple of changes on the way but positive ones in the form of cooling and moisture. as i mentioned, those inland spots under that excessive heat warning. this will remain in effect through tonight. it looks like as of right now, the temperatures do have a chance of climbing into the mid-90s. east san ho zas ovjose is sg to be in the 90s by 11:00 a.m. we are already in the 80s at this hour. we are expecting to hit a high of 98 for san jose. it should keep us out of the diple digdip triple digit zone for the most part. san francisco folks are going to be very happy. this is a little bit more normal. the last past few days have not been normal. we hit 106 on friday, 102 for yesterday. we are going to stay in the 70s today. look at that temperature trend. at 1:00, we will remain in the upper 60s, lower 70s. the beaches today will finally be a great way to get away from the heat. point reyes, 61 degrees at this hour. santa cruz, for today, will be in those 70s and 80s. so will half moon bay. typical, more normal temperatures for the coast. if you are going to head out to one of those beaches, please remember to be safe at all times. let's do a quick check of your micro climate forecasts for today. san jose can expect to hit the high. it looks like san jose will remain in those 90s. take a look at east bay. this is where we are seeing a heat warning. that is expected to stay in effect for tonight. in san francisco, also, finally starting to see some much more normal temperatures for that area. if you folks don't have an a.c., today is going to be a slight break for a meeting. as we head into monday, we are seeing that tropical storm moisture from lydia. it is going to bring a few pop-up showers. it is going to start in monterrey. it looks like as of right now into monday morning and into tuesday, that moisture is going to start moving up north. that's going to pop up a few showers possibly along the coastline and also for areas in the inland valleys. i will send things back to you, vicky. good to see some relief in sight. "today in the bay" shows us how people are handling the heat. >> reporter: the temperature is hovering in the 80s as hot as a typical sunny saturday in delores park but when the mercury surges past 100 degrees, it is not such a fun place to be. >> we were expecting delores to be really packed because it is a really nice day and nice weather but it is not. everyone is in their enclaves of shade. >> people leaving most of the rest of the park wide open. the heat affected just about everything. light rail service was slowed down because of heat-related equipment issues. b.a.r.t. showed its trains system-wide. engineers were concerned they could warp in triple digit temperatures. kids cooled off under sprays of water. this was one of the city's designated cooling stations. >> i was so hot. i had to take a cold shower for no reason. >> a cold shower wasn't an option for residents living here. water department workers used a bulldozer to keep a geyser from dousing the nearby homes. >> we have water coming out, the noise. all of the sudden, it blew, the water leak. >> neighborhood kids took advantage of the spray to cool off a little. workers shut down the water to the whole block for about an hour so they could fix the line. >> in addition to the city's pools, the heat also brought a lot of people out to san francisco's ocean beach. a lot of folks wanted to get into the water. that can be dangerous for those not used to the surf. ocean beach is known for its rip currents and it is not a swimming beach. firefighters had to rush a man to the hospital. he was found unconscious in the water. he is expected to be okay, though. first responders say the crowd at ocean beach yesterday was about four times what they typically see. our nbc bay area viewers have been united states has officially seized control of the russian consulate in san francisco. yesterday morning, workers were seen carrying boxes out of a building and loading them into cars. this comes just a day after thick, black smoke could be seen coming from the chimney at the consulate. it fueled a lot of speculation on social media about what the russians were up to inside. on thursday, the trump administration ordered the russians to leave within 48 hours. that move was in retaliation for russia ordering the u.s. to cut the number of americans in their country. many bay area russians are 40-year-old maria torres was allegedly with the victim in his car friday morning when her husband and son pulled up. she got out and they allegedly opened fire killing him. all three are facing i said, because he did it. he did it, didn't he? erika says she immediately suspected jimmy, claiming he had abused her during their three-year relationship. >> reporter: what made you fear so much for the safety of your daughter? >> my past. i know what i endured. i didn't want my child to endure that. >> reporter: erika was granted a special release to join her parents at children's hospital, oakland. she told social workers investigating eden's injuries that jimmy used to "beat the crap out of me." she didn't report the abuse because she was frayed of him. her claims were never documented and in interviews, he denied any domestic violence with erika. >> reporter: do you believe what holly and jimmy are saying happened to your granddaughter? >> no, no, no, i don't. >> reporter: according to medical records and cps reports, the couple told hospital staff eden tumbled down seven to eight concrete steps during the home. jimmy was at work and eden was home with holly. the cps report says they told investigators they didn't take eden to the doctor, because she seemed okay. they say eden collapsed nine days later. holly called 911. by then, it was too late. >> she didn't look like my baby. >> eden never woke up. the coroner ruled her death a homicide, blunt force trauma to the head. >> the day that child went to the hospital is the day they should have been arrested. >> reporter: she had been in jimmy and holly's care for just four months. social workers noted that jimmy and holly severely neglected and failed to attain medical attention for eden that could have saved her life. the report said there was not enough evidence to determine they did anything to cause eden's head injury. weeks turned into months and then years with no arrest. holly and jimmy moved to alaska where he served at the coast guard station in codeikodiak. they had two children and married. >> nothing has been done. >> last summer, five years after eden died, prosecutors with the coast guard filed four counts of child endangerment against jimmy bar low for failing to protect and kir for eden after her injuries. >> that makes me feel like somebody cared about eden bee sides us. >> his attorney says neither jimmy or holly did anything harmful to cause her death and that jimmy absolutely loved his daughter. >> reporter: the lynches wondered how did the coast guard come up with enough evidence to file charges but alameda prosecutors couldn't. for weeks, we asked to speak with the district attorney. they declined saying it was under review. they both had a reasonable expectation to protect that child. >> reporter: dan scott is a retired los angeles county sheriff's detective with more than 30 years of experience. he served on a blue ribbon commission to investigate crimes against children. we asked him to review eden's case. >> you look at the injury and then you look at the explanation and it is pretty easy to see when they don't fit. >> reporter: the former detective says there was enough evidence to arrest both jimmy and holly for child endangerment. while jimmy faces charges filed by the u.s. coast guard, holly returned to the bay area with her children facing no charges and as far as eden's family could tell no questions. so we decided to ask her ourselves outside her mother's home in vallejo. >> excuse me, holly, we are with nbc bay area. do you know what happened to eden? advisories specifically for the coast. look at the south bay at 85 degrees. if you don't have a.c., i hope you have those windows open. the past three days, mild. even seen some very warm temperatures. yes, we are expecting to see another hot day across the bay area. they did downgrade to some heat advisories, specifically for the coast and the inner bay. don't let that fool you. the highs will still be 80s and possibly even into the 90s and some triple digit heat. even though that heat warning has been downgraded to heat. a quick reminder, excessive heat warnings still remain until 9:00 p.m. tomorrow for the hills and the east bay. we are still dealing with very hot temperatures and poor air quality. if you are headed to the beach, just remember to stay hydrated. >> we don't see this often. it is a blanket of heat across the bay area. no relief at the coast. you said a little bit of cooling is coming my way. >> we have some tropical moisture that will bring us a nice cooldown. i will have detail on that. looking forward to it vianey. thank you. just about the entire bay has felt the effect of this heat wave. at the mission pool and park, kids were cooling off under sprays of water. the mayor has waved the fees for getting into all city pools to help people cool down. take a look at delores park, usually packed on a saturday. second day of triple digit temperatures kept a lot of people away. people who did come out clustered under the shade of all the trees there. the rest of the park, wide open. >> we were expecting delores to be really packed, because it is a really nice day and nice weather. it is not. >> the heat affected just about everything. the rail was slowed down because of heat-related issues. b.a.r.t. slowed its rails system-wide. the heat brought a lot of people to san francisco's ocean beach and drew a lot of folks into the ocean. that can be dangerous for those not used to the surf and the rip currents that ocean beach is known for. fire fate teres h firefighters had to rush a mn to the hospital after he was found unresponsive. the crowd was about four times what it normally is. despite the heat, the teams did play on. some logistical problems at san jose university as the football team hosted cal poly. from the fans to the players, a coordinated effort to keep everyone cool. employees. cooling bandanas to be dipped in buckets or barrels of ice water placed around the stadium. the university orrdered 1,000 o them. even fit for a news photographer with 35 pounds on his be carried on a long-range missile. this morning, president trump is condemning north korea, calling the country a rogue nation. a seismic tremor measuring 6.3 was detected in the same area where north korea has done recent nuclear tests only 40 miles from its border with china. officials say tremors were ten times larger than any in the past. this all comes hours after north korea released photos showing kim jong-un inspecting a hydrogen bomb at a nuclear lab. that bomb will reportedly be loaded on a new intercontinental ballistic missile. experts disagree on whether north korea really is capable of delivering a nuclear device via missile. the united states has seized control of the russian consulate in san francisco. workers were seen carrying buildinboxes out of the building. this comes one day after fumes were seen, what were the russians doing inside. they ordered the russians to leave in retaliation for russia ordering the u.s. to cut the number of americans in their denies that claim. what should have been a barbecue turned into a devastating ordeal for some people in walnut creek last night. the owner of a condo at a retirement community was lighting his barbecue on his deck when it sparked a fire. the flames, as you can see there, spread to all four units in the building. two condos are destroyed and the other two are badly damaged. five people and several pets are displaced. fortunately, no one was hurt. smoke from that fire could be seen for miles. firefighters remained at the scene overnight to monitor for hotspots. much more ahead. president fire started friday afternoon and has already destroyed three homes and burned more than 5,000 acres. erratic winds have made this a very difficult fire to fight specially combined with the lou humidity and high heat. >> if there is no wind, this is a relatively easy fire to put out. when the wind changes, it changes our priorities, because other properties become at risk. >> while rain on the horizon could help the firefighters, it could also cause flash floods in the burn area. about 700 people are under evacuation orders. that fire is just 10% contained. >> east bay homeowners are not strangers to this heat but still this heat wave has proved historic, one man pitched in to try and help others deal with it. in livermore, it was well over 100 degrees. the hot weather forced people to limit their outdoor activities for their safety. p harmony pington found a way to help the seniors. >> he delivered cold water for free to senior homes. his girlfriend came up with the idea. the excessive heat can be most dangerous for adults over 65 according to the cdc. let's get a check on that heat right now. vianey, as you know, we are in a micro climate weather alert and seen a lot of record-breaking temperatures and the air quality is really bad out there. >> it is expected to remain bad today. even though we are seeing a slight cooling and a lot more folks are going to be out along the coast, please keep in mind na it that it is still going to be hot specially for some inland areas. we have some significant changes for some areas. we have tropical moisture from tropical storm lydia that could bring the chance for a few pop-up showers. the peninsula is at 82 and the south bay at 85 and the tri-valley at 73. san francisco, 71. the north bay is at about 64 degreesme degrees. i do want to remind folks we have a couple of heat advisories in effect and heat warnings. it was across the board. that has been downgraded to a heat advisory specifically for the coast an inner bay. this is going to be until, as of now, it looks like this evening or later part of tonight possibly. i do want to remind folks that even then it is still going to be fairly hot, in the 80s, 90s, and some spots even though we are seeing the slight cooling. there is still enhanced fire danger. let's take a look at some of the 24-hour temperature changes. a bridge of high pressure that's been warming us up and bringing the hot heat is finally starting to shift east. that's what's bringing a couple of changes to the area. inland spots, still fairly warmer. areas along the coast like san francisco, no big change there over the past 24 hours. that means we do have a couple of changes on the way but positive ones in the form of cooling and moisture. as i mentioned, those inland spots under that excessive heat warning. this will remain in effect through tonight. it looks like as of right now, the temperatures do have a chance of climbing into the mid-90s. east san ho zas ovjose is sg to be in the 90s by 11:00 a.m. we are already in the 80s at this hour. we are expecting to hit a high of 98 for san jose. it should keep us out of the diple digdip triple digit zone for the most part. san francisco folks are going to be very happy. this is a little bit more normal. the last past few days have not been normal. we hit 106 on friday, 102 for yesterday. we are going to stay in the 70s today. look at that temperature trend. at 1:00, we will remain in the upper 60s, lower 70s. the beaches today will finally be a great way to get away from the heat. point reyes, 61 degrees at this hour. santa cruz, for today, will be in those 70s and 80s. so will half moon bay. typical, more normal temperatures for the coast. if you are going to head out to one of those beaches, please remember to be safe at all times. let's do a quick check of your micro climate forecasts for today. san jose can expect to hit the high. it looks like san jose will remain in those 90s. take a look at east bay. this is where we are seeing a heat warning. that is expected to stay in effect for tonight. in san francisco, also, finally starting to see some much more normal temperatures for that area. if you folks don't have an a.c., today is going to be a slight break for a meeting. as we head into monday, we are seeing that tropical storm moisture from lydia. it is going to bring a few pop-up showers. it is going to start in monterrey. it looks like as of right now into monday morning and into tuesday, that moisture is going to start moving up north. that's going to pop up a few showers possibly along the coastline and also for areas in the inland valleys. i will send things back to you, vicky. good to see some relief in sight. "today in the bay" shows us how people are handling the heat. >> reporter: the temperature is hovering in the 80s as hot as a typical sunny saturday in delores park but when the mercury surges past 100 degrees, it is not such a fun place to be. >> we were expecting delores to be really packed because it is a really nice day and nice weather but it is not. everyone is in their enclaves of shade. >> people leaving most of the rest of the park wide open. the heat affected just about everything. light rail service was slowed down because of heat-related equipment issues. b.a.r.t. showed its trains system-wide. engineers were concerned they could warp in triple digit temperatures. kids cooled off under sprays of water. this was one of the city's designated cooling stations. >> i was so hot. i had to take a cold shower for no reason. >> a cold shower wasn't an option for residents living here. water department workers used a bulldozer to keep a geyser from dousing the nearby homes. >> we have water coming out, the noise. all of the sudden, it blew, the water leak. >> neighborhood kids took advantage of the spray to cool off a little. workers shut down the water to the whole block for about an hour so they could fix the line. >> in addition to the city's pools, the heat also brought a lot of people out to san francisco's ocean beach. a lot of folks wanted to get into the water. that can be dangerous for those not used to the surf. ocean beach is known for its rip currents and it is not a swimming beach. firefighters had to rush a man to the hospital. he was found unconscious in the water. he is expected to be okay, though. first responders say the crowd at ocean beach yesterday was about four times what they typically see. our nbc bay area viewers have been united states has officially seized control of the russian consulate in san francisco. yesterday morning, workers were seen carrying boxes out of a building and loading them into cars. this comes just a day after thick, black smoke could be seen coming from the chimney at the consulate. it fueled a lot of speculation on social media about what the russians were up to inside. on thursday, the trump administration ordered the russians to leave within 48 hours. that move was in retaliation for russia ordering the u.s. to cut the number of americans in their country. many bay area russians are i said, because he did it. he did it, didn't he? erika says she immediately suspected jimmy, claiming he had abused her during their three-year relationship. >> reporter: what made you fear so much for the safety of your daughter? >> my past. i know what i endured. i didn't want my child to endure that. >> reporter: erika was granted a special release to join her parents at children's hospital, oakland. she told social workers investigating eden's injuries that jimmy used to "beat the crap out of me." she didn't report the abuse because she was frayed of him. her claims were never documented and in interviews, he denied any domestic violence with erika. >> reporter: do you believe what holly and jimmy are saying happened to your granddaughter? >> no, no, no, i don't. >> reporter: according to medical records and cps reports, the couple told hospital staff eden tumbled down seven to eight concrete steps during the home. jimmy was at work and eden was home with holly. the cps report says they told investigators they didn't take eden to the doctor, because she seemed okay. they say eden collapsed nine days later. holly called 911. by then, it was too late. >> she didn't look like my baby. >> eden never woke up. the coroner ruled her death a homicide, blunt force trauma to the head. >> the day that child went to the hospital is the day they should have been arrested. >> reporter: she had been in jimmy and holly's care for just four months. social workers noted that jimmy and holly severely neglected and failed to attain medical attention for eden that could have saved her life. the report said there was not enough evidence to determine they did anything to cause eden's head injury. weeks turned into months and then years with no arrest. holly and jimmy moved to alaska where he served at the coast guard station in codeikodiak. they had two children and married. >> nothing has been done. >> last summer, five years after eden died, prosecutors with the coast guard filed four counts of child endangerment against jimmy bar low for failing to protect and kir for eden after her injuries. >> that makes me feel like somebody cared about eden bee sides us. >> his attorney says neither jimmy or holly did anything harmful to cause her death and that jimmy absolutely loved his daughter. >> reporter: the lynches wondered how did the coast guard come up with enough evidence to file charges but alameda prosecutors couldn't. for weeks, we asked to speak with the district attorney. they declined saying it was under review. they both had a reasonable expectation to protect that child. >> reporter: dan scott is a retired los angeles county sheriff's detective with more than 30 years of experience. he served on a blue ribbon commission to investigate crimes against children. we asked him to review eden's case. >> you look at the injury and then you look at the explanation and it is pretty easy to see when they don't fit. >> reporter: the former detective says there was enough evidence to arrest both jimmy and holly for child endangerment. while jimmy faces charges filed by the u.s. coast guard, holly returned to the bay area with her children facing no charges and as far as eden's family could tell no questions. so we decided to ask her ourselves outside her mother's home in vallejo. >> excuse me, holly, we are with nbc bay area. do you know what happened to eden?
