With temperatures expected to top 100 degrees tomorrow, the district has decided to let all students go home early before campuses really heat up. Its hard to focus usually when i get so hot. Reporter Novato High School students and elementary School Students i always write, i always mess up because the hot is making me mess up. Reporter saying the heat makes it hard to learn. Especially when classrooms dont have air conditioning. With temperatures expected to soar tomorrow, novato unified is sending students home early, leaving parents in a bind. I now have to leave work early. To come get both of my kids. And they usually scooter to and from school. But now i feel guilty if i make them scooter home from school because theyre Closing School because its going to be too hot. Reporter the district is shifting game time for the hornet home game on saturday. The varsity team will play at 11 00 instead of 2 00. I think it was smart to switch the times. She is a fourth year Political Science major. And then when i graduate, there is no opportunity for me to go into that field or pursue more education. We are learning more about the bay area man accused of shooting a sheriffs deputy in sacramento yesterday. Weve learned Thomas Littlecloud was on the run, wanted for two felony warrants. Deputy Robert French died on the way to the hospital after being shot investigating a stolen vehicle operation. Nbc bay area has been piecing together little clouds criminal history. It looks like he had a pretty lengthy rap sheet. Reporter yeah. I was able to talk with the assistant chief of the Alameda County probation department. She tells me he had just been released from the california prison system in 2011. And even before yesterdays shootout with officers in sacramento, there were some warrants out for his arrest from charges ranging from drug possession to weapons charges. It was a dramatic and dangerous scene Thomas Little cloud accused of opening fire on a sheriffs deputy and a pair of chp officers at a sacramento hotel. Deputy Robert French died. A Law Enforcement task force was investigating a car theft ring. We have now learned that little cloud was already wanted by bay area authorities. Mr. Little cloud failed to appear for a court date and a bench warrant was set thereafter. And this story started out as a phone call from a concerned parent and ended up with a meeting in this parking lot with about a dozen parents and 70 facebook posts. These parents tonight say that their kids are being bullied, and the district is not doing enough about it. In my perspective, the problem is huge. So much of a problem that parents responding to a social media message came to the briton middle School Parking lot to talk about it. Its not just affecting the schools. Its affecting the community. Reporter last year Mildred Evans grandson didnt attend his last week of school for fear of being bullied. This video shows him being jumped. He said he was protecting his friend who was also being harassed. Mary brandon says its only two weeks into the school year, and her son is being threatened. To have his face smashed in. If he is seen outside of school or anywhere that they would kill him. Reporter she says she has made several official reports, but now her son is missing school. It has become personal. Reporter Paulo Pereira works in Law Enforcement and acts as a bodyguard for a friends son who is being bullied. Going to school shouldnt be about fear. It should be educating yourself, hanging with friends, having great memories. Reporter britons principal sent out this message through the district saying we are aware of the situation and have quickly taken disciplinary action against any student involved when incidents of bullying are reported to us. Bullying comes in many form, and the local Antidefamation League says parents and teachers might not ever find out if its going on. Typically, if youre hearing of one incident of bullying, that means that there are many, many others that are underreported or not being reported at all. Reporter briton middle school was in the news four years ago when a 13yearold was arrested and cited for cyberbullying two other middle School Students. Rich says districts need to pay close attention when they get reports of bullying. Its very important for the district to take advantage of this moment. This is a teachable moment for them. And help them navigate through a process of starting to change the culture at the school. For the district, for the d. A. , for the administration, what is it going to take for them to make some kind of changes . Reporter School District officials tell me that they cannot talk about what goes on as far as bullying in this district because the kids involved are minors. It is a tough issue. Thank you, cheryl. We have problems at the santa rita jail in dublin, and its not the inmates. Four sheriffs departments have been arrested. Theyre accused of mistreating some inmates. The investigation began in january after reports that deputies allowed an inmate to throw bodily fluids on other inmates. Investigation revealed a further investigation revealed several other incidents involving the same deputies last year. One deputy has resigned. The other three have been placed on administrative lever. After a search all day, no sign of a reported Mountain Lion and her cub near downtown palo alto.
