south poundbound 101. completely burned out. no injuries to report so far, but we will continue to follow this story. the. right now 100 people are searching the streets of walnut creek for an elderly woman missing since friday. marianne favro joins us live in walnut creek at the command post for this search. marianne? >> reporter: you can see that right now the command post is bustling. search and rescue teams from five different counties along with five search dogs are out right now trying to find this woman. and time is critical because she relies on medication. the team is looking for 74-year-old valentina meduisha. she speaks only russian. >> she was last seen just after she left friday around 3:00. and at that point, she used someone's cell phone to make a phone call. and that's the last really that we have of any contact with her. >> reporter: this is what police believe she was wearing when she left, a gray long-sleeved tee shirt, dark-colored athletic pants with stripes down the side and brown slippers. she was apparently carrying a pink floral robe. she has dementia and needs to take medication. they believe she left with no cell phone and no wallet. police say they do not suspect foul play. right now volunteers are searching an area near pacific park downtown. police even used a chopper to look for valentina yesterday. and they say they will continue the search well into the night. reporting live in walnut creek, marianne favro, nbc bay area news. marianne, thank you very much. in san francisco crews working on doyle drive say they are ahead of schedule. they're expected to open the critical commute street tonight instead of tomorrow morning. this is great news for chute commuters. we're live with the latest on this developing story. >> reporter: one measure of how much they've done they've got about 70 to 80 workers on the job right now instead of the 350 that started the project late thursday night. we caught a sneak peek of some of the construction and it looks pretty impressive. they are holding a conference call with cal trans and other agencies to coordinate reopening several hours before the monday morning target. the concrete roadway between the tunnels is all poured and dry able to carry a car just a few hours after being poured. the side rails and striping are all that remain. >> it looks like we'll be able to open early. how much earlier, i cannot really pin down the exact time. we'll coordinate with molly once we know exactly. we also need to coordinate with all the other agencies chp especially, when it's time to open. mta, golden gate bridge of course but from a construction point of view it looks like we're going to be ready to open at least before midnight tonight. >> reporter: there is some landscaping on top of the tunnels to continue into next year. that won't require closing the roadway. there may be some individual lane closures coming up however. meanwhile, since thursday night, workers poured some 1600 cubic yards of quick set asphalt. and a street sweeper went by. i guess when that happens you know the opening is close. >> good observation there. speaking of travel getting around silicon valley is going to be a little tougher this week. train service is shut down in parts of mountain view and is not going to reopen until next week. it runs from mountain view station to whitman. the riders should be prepared for delays. this is all to add a second light rail track in that area. construction work is expected to wrap up next sunday. lafayette police are asking for the public's help for searching for a man wanted for assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon. 28 year old william alexander, described as 5'10", 160 pounds black hair hazel eyes. andersson should not be confronted. it is time for presidential candidates. it's been tough to get a word in edge wise for any candidates other than donald trump. he continues to drive the conversation. we have the story from washington. >> reporter: a day before he's expected to jump into the 2016 presidential race wisconsin governor scott walker signed his state's belt-tightening budget. >> translator: . >> the difference between wisconsin and washington is we actually gets things done. >> reporter: he wants to talk about serious economic issues. ? we've got more people working ever before. >> reporter: but stealing the spotlighttrump is no easy feat. >> they're taking everything and killing us on the border. >> reporter: trump reached out to supporters. >> we'll take our country back. very soon. so they're naturally going to be interested in the digital world. the job that's incumbent upon school districts and policymakers is to make sure we take advantage of that natural interest. >> reporter: there's a lot of information to keep track of in the tech world. it's going to take new employees to handle it all. scott budman nbc bay area news. >> i have no idea what that wall's about, but i would like one in my room. >> it is very cool. >> it's really cool. >> and very high tech. rob mayeda also has a cool wall. >> we have one sort of like t looking at breezy conditions in oakland with high clouds moving over the bay area. the average high should be closer to 84 degrees so below average temperatures around the south bay. around downtown we're seeing temperatures at 84 degrees. they will get close to 90 as we get close to gilroy for monday afternoon. high clouds, 71 degrees. so we've got a good sea breeze going for you tonight. 10 to 15 miles per hour. and that should hold up as we start the workweek. it's going to bring in low clouds and give us the chance of drizzle for a few spots for tomorrow morning. the satellite radar shows you the high clouds and showers which will continue mainly north of lake county and toward interstate 80 as we'll see the chance of mountain thundershowers off and on throughout the week. we'll see low clouds coming back in, and we could have drizzle or brief, light, misty rain in san francisco for the morning and partly sunny skies, a day that should look a lot like the weather we saw today so upper 50s and low 60s tomorrow morning. then by lunch time upper 60s and low 70s for places closer to san francisco, upper 70s inland towards morgan hill. 28 82 in san hoe say. upper 60s to low 70s. and 80s for now around the tri valley before the temperatures begin to climb on up. and for the middle part of the week, still expecting a warming trend. this is going to weaken the sea breeze a little bit. this will allow valley temperatures to climb on up. warmest days of the week right now look to be about thursday into friday. so san jose going above average for temperatures on thursday toward upper 80s toward 90 around livermore, pleasanton and dublin. san francisco staying in the familiar trend of upper 60s to low 70s with sunny skies. a bit warmer towards thursday, but here's where things may turn a little more interesting. we've got tropical storm daough lloris. it weakens as it encounters warmer waters. could move into southern california. could drift towards the bay area. so right now we'll say increasing clouds late next weekend, and stay tuned. could have more tropical weather toward next weekend as the clouds fill in we could get rare july rain showers or thunderstorms especially toward the end of the seven-day forecast. >> that would be fantastic. thank you so much. coming up the tough lesson a teenager from ethiopia had to learn from an early age. >> and how time has helped her understand the heartbreak being decision her family was forced to make. it will make you bay area proud. volunteer at the san francisco . many people work and volunteer at the san francisco aids foundation, and many have a personal story about the disease. the staff says there's a young woman who walked through their doors this summer with one of the most dramatic stories they have ever heard. garvin thomas has tonight's bay area proud. >> reporter: sarah andersson was 6 years old living in ethiopia the day her aunt said she had a surprise for her. >> i didn't know what it was. i didn't now where i was going. i just knew it was a surprise. as a kid i was excite the because i didn't get that much surprises. >> reporter: it turned out not to be a good one. for that surprise was a trip to an orphan and. >> she signed some papers and handed me over and i just remember crying. i was like where are you going? why are you leaving me here? i must have like cried for weeks after she left me because i didn't know if she was coming back. this was the little pictures that i got. >> reporter: sarah's aunt didn't come back to the orphanage. but eventually, a couple from alameda did. their adoption of sarah beginning a journey for her that has not only covered extreme distance but emotion as well her new family eventually reconnecting with her old one and sarah who once felt hatred for her aunt for what she had done now has understanding. >> for a better life. she said it was for a better life. i'm grateful even though i miss her. . i'm grateful that she did this for me. >> reporter: and not just grateful but ready to give back. for when sarah was chosen for bank of mesh's student leaders program and given a list of internships to choose from, it was a quick decision. >> i thought that san francisco aids foundation i'm like mom, i already know what i want. >> reporter: which explains why sarah is learning on one of her first days here to create clean syringe kits, one of the first steps she hopes will always include helping those with hiv and aids both likely -- locally and perhaps back home in ethiopia. >> i can see myself doing this in the future. >> reporter: sarah has another year in high school but the future she hopes includes medical school for her. garvin thomas nbc bay area news. >> remarkable little girl. remarkable family that went and adopted her. amazing story. >> we'll be right back. we spend a lot of time online around here. but with all this speed from xfinity, it's all good. hey, why don't we do some homework for a change?
