Forecast. So it begin. Its a little chilly out there this morning. Some fog as well. We have a bit of drizzle along the coast too. Heres a live look outside from the exploratorium camera right now showing you we have that morning gray overcast. This is one of those days where across the city that fog is going to be very persistent. So well see. Limited sunshine in the city and along the coast, but away from the coast we will have bright conditions, temperatures. Right now were basically all starting out in the 50s this morning. So lets break it down by our regions first along the coast, very similar to yesterday. We get a little bit of sunshine later on this afternoon, but clouds really ruling the forecast near the coast. Temperatures stuck in the 50s all day now around the bay shoreline. Its a little bit of a different story. You can see were starting with cloud cover ending with cloud cover. But temperatures are in the 60s. Then as you head inland, we will find those temperatures a little bit cooler than yesterday. Well see those numbers mainly in the upper 70s. So not as warm as yesterday, but equally as bright later on this afternoon. Lets check in with amanda and see how were doing with the commute this morning. Yeah. Good morning. Here at 501 we want to leave you with your drive. Times tracy to dublin, 44 minutes, san rafael to San Francisco. That will take you about 18 minutes. And then antioch to concord on westbound for that will take you 14 minutes back to you at the desk. Thanks, amanda. Protesters are not backing down. They are now occupying a vacant building near uc berkeleys campus. Thi is located on haight street. Its aoss the street from peoples park. The building has been sitting empty since a fire two years ago. Abc seven News Reporter Gloria Rodriguez is here with the details. Gloria. Protesters set up camp there after their large encampment in sproul plaza got taken down. Thats right. Reggie and our photographer actually just checked in. They are still out there right now. A group of propalestine activists took over an abandoned building owned by uc berkeley. This a day after a compromise was reached to disband the encampment on campus. Graffiti now covers parts of the alumni hall building. Its across the street from peoples park. Uc Berkeley Police say some of the group hopped fences and broke windows to get inside. It was initially thought it was a peoples park protest because it was the 55th anniversary of the founding of the park, but it merged into a propalestinian protest. Recent demonstrators have been protesting the Public University systems financial involvement in military and proisraeli causes. Abc seven talked to people on both sides of this issue. I didnt take over the building, but we are resisting with palestinian who are the bravest, strongest and most tenacious resisters i ever heard of. They seem to parrot the narratives that are given to them and only want to focus in searly on on gaza when their own backyard has problems. I mean, they took our park, we have homelessness all throughout california. We have, i mean, the issues of our modern world are endless that are local, but none of these people are local, and none of these people seem to care about the local issues. All they care about is gaza and overseas and the University Officially says it is a crime scene, different than civil disobedience or nonviolent political protests. Its still unclear if arrests will be made and if the building will be cleared of. Protesters live in the studio. Gloria rodriguez, abc seven news thank you, gloria. We are waiting to see if protesters interrupt the uc board of regents meeting for a second day in a row yesterday. The meeting had to be paused after protesters began yelling at Board Members over the listen to our voices. So the second warning. Youre welcome to observe the meeting should you continue to disrupt, we will have to recess and have the police clear the auditorium, this is the final warning. And if and we will clear the room until you divest. This is not a threat. The yelling happened at several points of that meeting, which is being held at uc merced after that final warning, the regents asked the california Highway Patrol officers to step in and lead the protesters out. The regents have said they have no plans to divest from military or israeli supporting assets. The union that represents uc grad students and academic workers voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike over the ucs response to protests. This vote doesnt guarantee a strike will happen, but the union is demanding the uc system divest, and theyre upset with how they feel. Uc officials interfered with its members right to protest. This means Union Leadership can call for a work stoppage at any point. Classes and research could face major disruptions, as many of these institutions wrap up the school year. Police cleared an encampment on uc irvines campus, arresting several propalestinian protesters after they barricaded and occupied a university building. There were some small clashes as officers moved in and corralled those demonstrators. You can see some of that chaos here. Police say some of the protesters had chained the doors to a lecture hall shut and stay with us for our continuing coverage of the College Campus protests here in the bay area and nationwide. And you can get the latest anytime at abc seven news. Com. A group of san franciscans is taking their demands for change to the streets. The citys annual ride of silence is a solemn memorial meant to honor those injured or killed while biking. The event is held on may 15th globally in more than 20 countries. Abc seven News Reporter Sarah Campbell was there for the citys 22nd ride of silence and shares a powerful stories behind the ride, a gathering of cyclists in San Franciscos Mission district. Here, with a mission of their own, to remember those killed while biking and to raise awareness. Nine years ago, my partner charles here died three blocks from here, and jeff jones has been participating in the ride of silence ever since. He was a very good cyclist. He knew what he was doing and, you know, if nothing else, you know, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The annual ride takes cyclists from the Mission District to city hall, where they will place whats dubbed a ghost bike. We do the ride year after year after year, after year to honor the people that we lost and never do forget that paul valdez is the Event Organizer and says this year theyre adding two names to the list, including professional cyclist ethan boyce, who was hit and killed while riding in the presidio last year, and laura taylor, who was killed in a hit and run. We dont like to, add a name or create a new ghost bike because someone, you know, lost their lives simply because theyre riding a bike. The Bicycle Community in San Francisco is really tight, and its very strong. And seeing people come together for a common cause is always lovely. And she says it was a close call herself that brings her out to ride this ride is important to me because i almost died riding my bicycle. People who drive to slow down, please, you know, and try to share the roads. And theyre asking for the citys help as well. The city should do a much better job of Building Infrastructure that permits people to get on their bike and not risk their lives every single day. And as for jeff jones, he says hell keep coming back in remembrance of charlie. Ill be here again next year for the same reason, and hopefully we wont have we wont be adding any more names. Tara campbell, abc seven news. New this morning governor gavin newsom at the vatican meeting with the pope overnight. Amanda is the governor. Is there to speak about climate change. Yeah. Kumasi Governor Newsom is one of several speakers at the three day Climate Summit at the vatican gardens. His talk is called the Gold Standard climate leadership in the golden state. The governor discussed how the changing climate is affecting californias landscapes and natural disasters, and how the state can lead on the world stage. Also joining Governor Newsom are the governors of new york and massachusetts. All three are democrats. The summit, hosted by the Pontifical Academy of sciences and social sciences, brought in experts from around the world who are recognized by the catholic church. Newsom, using the platform to go after oil companies, the polluted heart of the Climate Crisis are these fossil fuel companies that have been lying to us. They have been deceiving us. Theyve known the science. Theyve denied the science. Theyve delayed advancement. One of the meetings objectives is to produce a draft protocol on Climate Resilience that will be submitted to the United Nations. And earlier this morning, the group of governors did have a brief meeting with the pope. Details of that meeting have not been released yet. Back to you at the desk . No, lets send it to drew. Hey, thanks. Amanda, 509 will go to oakland this morning with a live look from our cameras. We do have pretty cloudy conditions. Once again, our marine layer is pretty deep this morning, meaning its going to take its time burning off in a lot of cities. And we are seeing some coastal drizzle as well. Currently in oakland were at 56 degrees with those cloudy conditions. A light wind but high humidity at this hour. So lets look at future weather. Lets go hour by hour. You can clearly see by 9 00 am we are still dealing with a lot of fog, specifically through the delta and the counties adjacent to it. A similar story along the coast as well. That fog will break down close to noon in the east bay, but along the coast we stay cloudy all day long. Were watching the city. I think its one of those days where were stuck in the cloud cover for much of the day, probably between 1 and 3. We get a little bit of sunshine, but do expect a pretty chilly day in the city. And then that fog surges back inland once again. And in fact, tonight is going to be even cloudier than we are right now. So looking at the day planner today, we start out with that Morning Cloud cover. Some drizzle. That fog will start to thin out. It is a cooler afternoon today by about 1 or 2 degrees in most spots, but we still have a wide range of afternoon temperatures later on this afternoon. So looking at highs today, only 60 in the city, a cool 65 in oakland, cooler than yesterday. Warm in the south bay though 80 in san jose, 78 in concord will hit about 73 in napa. Now looking at the three day forecast. Steady pattern today and tomorrow. Then over the weekend it does turn a little bit cooler. Well show you that complete weekend forecast for you coming up in about eight minutes. Drew. Thank you. Were hearing from the family of a man who died after being restrained from Antioch Police. Governor newsom says work to repair and reopen the southbound lane will be done next spring. Now to an abc seven news building. A better bay area breakthrough General Motors is getting on.
