Good morning. Good morning stephanie. Happy Saint Patricks day everyone. Were looking at another clear day out there. We have had a return of the marine layer. The low clouds, the fog, the stratus with us along the shoreline and some patchy fog up in the valleys of the north bay. So very quiet. Satellite picture 52 in hayward. It is 51 in concord, with 45 in fremont. And that fog with mid 40s in santa rosa. 41 novato. So theres a look at the three quarter mile visibility. Napa, half a mile santa rosa and the stratus right along the coast inside the bay there by oakland. By 10 00 it clears. But you can see it sets up again right along the coast. So its a summertime pattern for midmarch as we go through the next few hours. Its cool. In the 50s that patchy low cloud deck with some fog and then by noontime were sunny, the sea breeze kicking up throughout the afternoon, keeping it in the low 60s at our beaches. Upper 60s around hayward. Low 70s for you into concord, and several more dry days before we see a return to some wet weather. Stephanie. Lisa. Thank you. A small memorial is up near the spot where two people died and three others were hurt after a car struck a bus shelter. One of those killed was a child. It happened in San Franciscos west portal neighborhood. Abc seven News Reporter cornell bernard spoke to investigators. Well, i can tell you what happened was a real tragedy. Mayor london breed, speaking at the scene of a horrific crash at a bus stop on yulo street and lenox way car going eastbound on eola, uh struck a bus shelter which had four people, two adults and two children. The fire chief says two people were killed, an adult and a child. Obviously, there are multiple calls to 911, so police and fire Work Together for uh to treat all of the victims, to assess and treat them. And unfortunately, two, they were really, really critically injured. And there was no hope for them. Three people were taken to the hospital, including the driver of this suv, which struck the bus shelter. At this point, its unclear how the collision happened. We dont know if the driver had a medical emergency. That is all under investigation. The impact of the crash was so intense it could be heard a half block away. We heard a really loud crash and i thought it was two trains colliding. And then a bunch of people in the restaurant went out and looked and said not to go out there because it was, really gory. The crash happening just feet from the entrance of the muni west portal station, which was busy on saturday afternoon. We have a lot of shaken up people, including one of our muni drivers and other people who who saw this situation on and saw people trying to save their lives in San Francisco. Now, police did not confirm if the two victims were related and the mayor says counselors from the citys Behavioral Health department will be in the neighborhood speaking with people who may have experienced trauma. Were also learning the nonprofit San Francisco walk San Francisco, that is, will hold a vigil for the victims at the crash site tomorrow in the east bay. Were learning more about the man who drowned near Encinal Beach in alameda friday. They say he was 32 years old and from the Central Valley town of atwater, the man was seen struggling in the water before divers and swimmers tried to rescue him. They were unable to get to him before he went under. His body was recovered about two hours later. Bay area activists are pressuring lawmakers for new policies and funding for the unhoused. Voters are being asked whether billions of dollars in bonds would provide housing for the homeless and the mentally ill. Prop one is narrowly passing at the moment, with 20,000 more yes votes than no votes. Local groups held a demonstration. Abc seven News ReporterTara Campbell has their message. Where people are finally held a call to action saturday on the steps of the state capitol. One painted fence plank at a time, local groups rallying to put an end to homelessness. Tiny village spirit. We build tiny house villages for homeless people. Currently, were doing it for youth. Were doing a 100 homes for 100 youth. The nonprofit has also built a 25 home village in oakland, where theyre cultivating community and providing resources. A lot of like supportive programs into it. We put art all over everything. We try to make it very beautiful, like a place that they would want to live. Its really exciting to see things that are like manifesting in like real time, and its happening and there are young people who are being housed and they have a Community Village and they have shared spaces and they have garden areas, and its healthy and its wholesome, and they just have new life. Moni law is an activist and member of the way church in berkeley, joining about a dozen groups, putting pressure on politicians for better policy and funding for Homeless Support Services and solutions. I think this is tying together what people in the Community Know on the ground is people that work with the unhoused and the legislators who are up in their offices who may not see whats happening. And when it comes to being on the ground, Oneill Fernandez knows the streets well. Im from the unhoused community. You know, im lucky enough. Me and my wife and my 20 month old got out of a tent two months before she was born, so im one to speak from the experience of myself. Hes part of sos richmond, a nonprofit made up by staff who were previously unhoused, serving some of the communitys most vulnerable. And hes hopeful his story can make an impact. But ive had to struggle, so i want to be here to get that voice, you know, i am one of those voices. You know, everybody i brought with me from our crew is a part of those voices. Tara campbell, abc seven news today is expected to be the last day for the north face store in San Franciscos union square. The outdoor retailer traces its origins to San Franciscos north beach. It has no other stores in the city. The company was purchased by the Vf Corporation in 2000, which owns other brands like timberland and dickies. The company did not say why this store is closing. Aapi leaders and Community Members held a memorial in honor of the victims of the atlanta spa shootings. They had musical performances, Mental Health speakers, and stories from activists at japantowns hotel. Kabuki. This journey of antiasian hate crime is nothing new, but now we have so many more Asian Americans in this country and the city, and so the intention is that we can come together, stand together and fight together and thrive together for a country that we truly belong in. Some of those in attendance are also demanding sfpd and the District Attorneys Office to look into attacks on asian elders as hate crimes. Allies in new york city, l. A. And atlanta also hosted events called stand together remembering 36 18. Three years ago, eight people were killed in that shooting, six of whom were of asian descent, and the south bay, a longtime superintendent at the Alum Rock Union school district, has been fired. The districts board voted to end superintendent hilarion bowers employment in a closed session on thursday night. Shes held the position since 2014. The board voted to extend her contract in 2019. The board president said the decision to fire her was made after much consideration and deliberation. Bowers last day will be on march 25th. All right, lets check on conditions outside. Irish music blasted around Dublin Civic Center to commemorate the 40th annual Saint Patricks day celebration. Actually, this is the first time weve been here, but its really fun though were really enjoying it. Randy hernandez and her friends were among the thousands who attended food, rides and celebrating irish culture. I like the dancing that they were doing. The famous dances uh that i seen, the irish dancers. Yeah, there you go. The irish dancing. There was aplayin u2 music uy irish music. So its irish beers. Patrick hilliard says he makes it out every year. He and his family were dressed in green, which some say brings good luck. Its been a great a lot of great vibe out here. A lot of people really dressed up festive. Its really they do a good job. There was lots of traffic getting into dublin, but event organizers say the southbound closure of i680 from the 580 interchange to sunol didnt seem to have much impact. Caltrans says all entrances to dublin from 680 and 580 will be open all weekend, so no need to miss all the events on saturday and sunday, especially that iconic Saint Patricks day parade on sunday. Part of the reason i moved to dublin was because of the name. I fell in love with the city when i saw the shamrocks on the street signs. Sean day says hes a proud irish american. He stayed till the end for the grand finale, a 200 drone light show. I know they probably couldnt do fireworks, so drone festival is great. Got a lot of nice pictures and everyone seemed to have a good time. And especially seeing that the irish say on Saint Patricks day, oh erin, go bragh which means ireland forever in dublin. San francisco also partied for the Irish Holiday at its annual parade downtown this is video. The city marks its 173rd annual Saint Patricks day parade in celebration, and there was plenty of green to go around. You know, when it started 173 years ago . Im pretty sure it was all about just, you know, the irish marching. But now we have everybody. We have all the heritages marching with us. We got the kids in the school marching with us. We got all the civic, organizations. We got the union. This thing is huge. Crowds of people wearing green and shamrocks filled the streets. You see the dancers here. And the theme of the day was unity. Well, i mean, this is what were all about. Family togetherness. I mean, look at all the people. Its a great day and a beautiful day. Saint patricks day brings us together. The parade went from market and second all the way to civic center plaza. And take a look at this. New york city had an estimated 2 Million People show up for its parade, billed as the oldest and largest around this years did not disappoint. This year marked the 262nd running of the parade. Fifth avenue was filled to the brim with bagpipers, nypd officers and green berets, irish flags and cloggers you see, here in the bay area, it was a great day for a parade or to head to the beach quite a few people took advantage of the sunshine and comfortable temperatures and soaked it in at crown beach in alameda. The question is how long does this sun stick around . Lisa is tracking that answer for us with this good luck forecast, right . We get to see the sun for a few more days. Yeah thats right. And then how about a return to the rain . Yeah. Especially as we get closer to the weekend. Its going to be a cold rain. Its going to be widespread beneficial though. And were looking at mountain snow. Thats the second half of the end of the week actually where well see those big changes. But for right now weve had a few subtle changes with the low cloud deck returning and the marine layer allowing for that sea breeze to kick up in the afternoon. You probably felt the change. Low pressure finally releasing its grip into Southern California and High Pressure hanging on for the next several days, keeping us dry and then as it fades away, well see a return to some wet weather systems. 43 in danville, it is 44 with that fog in santa rosa and napa this morning. 47 san mateo. The fog here along the peninsula allowing for that cooler day. And as we look outside, you can get a glimpse of that marine layer, the sun coming up at 716. It sets at 719. So the low clouds and patchy fog for some of you. And then throughout the day today, Saint Patricks day, sunny and cooler at the coast, some low 60s settling in there with that sea breeze. The rest of us a little bit above average. And that will take us through the first day of spring, which arrives tuesday evening. After that, some more intense cooling. But as we review our rainfall percentage of normal for the season, pretty much everyone above average except for oakland 117 of average in santa rosa with over 32in of rain. Next up, San Francisco nearly 22in with 116 of average, 126 of average in san jose at 13in. And that 13in keeps oakland at 87 of average. So as we look at our snowpack, it was abysmal in january at 28 and now at 104, could add as much as a foot of snow by next weekend into the sierra nevada. The next several days in san jose will be the mildest, pretty much around the bay area. Tomorrow well see a bump up into the mid 70s for the south bay santa clara and then dropping off a bit on tuesday, kind of staying the same there wednesday and thursday. But the rest of the bay will begin to cool by the time we get into thursday. And then friday and saturday 60s with this arriving. This is our forecast model for friday morning, bringing some rain into the bay area. And then it looks like its going to spread into the mountains, the sierra nevada. And then as we get into the rest of the weekend, its slow to move out. So well be watching that for you and bringing those spring showers as we get towards the end of the workweek. Upper 60s today in oakland looking at upper 60s, the peninsula with that sea breeze intact, low 70s for the north bay and the south bay, well take that inland as well.
