Wind gusts 25 to 35 plus miles an hour. Impacts to both commutes. An avalanche watch has been issued for the back country of the central sierra. 7 a. M. Friday until 5 p. M. Sunday. High to extreme avalanche danger is expected during this time, and certainly unprecedented snow is expected. Blizzard warning starts tomorrow morning at 4 a. M. It runs until 10 a. M. Sunday at the highest peaks. Were expecting 12ft or more of snow. That is unbelievable. 5 to 10ft of snow above 5000. Expecting 1 to 4ft at lower elevations. And the snow rates will be down even as low as 2000ft. This weekend, with wind gusts 75 miles an hour or higher. Extremely dangerous to impossible travel. I would not advise travel, and you can pretty much clearly see why i wouldnt advise it. Not only is this snow going to be coming down, look at the winds. Kirkwood over 50 mile an hour. Wind gusts at times 53 miles an hour. Friday and that means we are talking about whiteout conditions and blowing snow. Investigators uncovered Surveillance Video showing an unidentified suspect igniting a row filled with paper towels. The damage to the store and merchandise is estimated to exceed 3 million. The city has nearly 4300 positions, but almost 800 of them are vacant. Unfilled. Abc seven news iteam reporter stephanie sierra on how oakland compares to other bay area cities. We all know oakland has no police chief. Still, after a year. But heres another problem there are more than 780 other vacant positions across the city, according to an october 2023 staffing report. Thats more than 18 of positions across all city departments. A vacancy rate thats higher than San Francisco , san jose, berkeley, concord, hayward, fremont and richmond all the way down from the Police Department down to the public works agency, where i need people to clean my streets. Oakland City Council Member noel gayo says theres a significant street defect backlog, in part due to more than 120 vacancies in the citys public works department. The iteams analysis of city data found 13 city departments have vacancies, rates above 20, up to 44. These departments provide crucial Public Services like violence prevention, transportation, housing and community development, parks and rec and the fire department. But two departments that have just one vacancy each, the workforce and Employment Standards Department and the Mayors Office. The mayor elevated her salaries and hire more people were elected to serve the public and to serve ourselves. The iteam reached out to the mayor, but she was unavailable for an interview. We were told by her office that there has been significant hiring activity lately, with 92 new employees registered for the february new employee orientation in the Mayors Office could not clarify which departments were impacted, but say theyre prioritizing hiring the most essential positions, including Police Officers and 911 dispatchers. They say 70 of the 76 authorized dispatcher positions have been hired. Progress. Yet . You know, i still dont have a police chief. On tuesday, mayor tao sent this letter to the citys Police Commission informing them she wont be attending thursdays public forum to help select a new chief. According to the letter, tao states a public forum does not help recruit the best candidate s a form identifying candidates places those individuals at unnecessary risk with their current employers. It may also force oakland to enter into a premature bidding war with an individuals current employer. The iteam has confirmed at least one officer recently left opd to work next door in alameda. Police chief Nishant Joshi has an attractive offer. Our salaries are very competitive. This hiring incentive is the highest in the country. If you combine the starting salary with the one time hiring bonus, an officer with no experience in alameda is making 188,000 in year one. In oakland , its around 106,000. A judge in illinois says trump is ineligible for the states march 19th primary, and his name will not appear on the ballot. The decision overrules a january decision from the Illinois State board of elections, also, the Us Supreme Court says it will take up trumps claim that as a former president , he has immunity from accusations that he interfered with the 2020 election. The nations oldest milk bank collects, processes and distributes to Neonatal Intensive Care Units across the state and beyond. The application process takes about ten minutes, and it goes a long way to saving a babys life. Here at Santa Clara Valley medical, they receive all their donations directly from Mothers Milk Bank. Breast milk is one of the most important things that protects the baby against infection, and also protects the neurodevelopment of any baby, especially very pretum infants. Doctor priya jegathesan says. Donated breast milk provides an option for families during a babys first weeks of life. Our current feeding protocol means that we provide exclusive human milk feeding for all pretum infants until they are close to 35 weeks gestational age and that is essential to promote optimal growth. Andrea hernandez looked into being a donor after seeing the impact it can have for babies and mothers. My cousin gave birth to twins and they were both in the nicu and she was telling me how she was trying to pump and she was really producing just very little. And so she was telling me that luckily the hospital has donor breast milk. Hernandez donated her milk twice after having her daughter arianna, and is planning for a third donation. She said after being screened, donating was easy so it was like two days later i received a little cooler in the mail and i packaged up my milk, called fedex, scheduled a pick up time and they picked it up and off the milk went. Starting thursday, Mothers Milk Bank is kicking off their statewide initiative to get more donations of that liquid gold us moms should all stick together and help out those moms who, you know, cant produce, you know, for whatever it is that they just they cant. People who smoke cannabis frequently are more likely to report having a heart attack or a stroke compared to nonusers. Thats according to a new study published in the journal of the american heart association. Daily cannabis use primarily by smoking, is associated with a 25 increased risk of heart attack and 42 increased risk of stroke. But the study only looked at association not if cannabis actually causes these increases. Smoking weekly is associated with a 3 higher risk of heart attack and a 5 higher risk of stroke.
