At least 16 people are dead and dozens more were injured. There is an active man hunt for the person of interest. He is considered armed and very dangerous. As we come on the air, shelter in place order has expanded. People are urged to stay inside and lock their doors. Schools in the area are closed this morning. The gun man stormed a place where families took their children to have fun. He did not stop there, making his way to a second location. The worst mass shooting of the year. Towns people hid for their live, parents shielded their children, families fled the scene. Some got out to reunite with their loved ones. We will hear from survivors this morning. Sadly, weve become all too familiar with these types of tragedies. Here we are again at the scene of what is expected to be the deadliest shooting so far of 2023. At least 16 People Killed. Behind me is that crime scene, the street blocked off. If you go halfway down the street, thats where the Bowling Alley is that was hosting a youth night for children. Thats where this suspect began his killing spree. Now an entire community on edge. As that killer, considered armed and dangerous, is still on the run. Active shooter location. All available units. You heard a loud pop. I thought it was a balloon. Had my back turned to the door. Soon as i turned and saw he was holding a weapon, i went down the lane and slid basically in to where the pins are and climbed up in the machine and was on top of the machine for ten minutes until the cops got there. Reporter the suspect then traveling about four miles to the second scene at a local bar and restaurant. There are multiple scenes to include multiple hospital, a lot of witnesses were speaking with. People told to stay indoor, lock their doors. Businesses and schools are closed as more than 100 investigators comb the area looking for that suspect. Overnight we did hear from central maine Medical Center that confirmed they were responding to this mass casualty, mass shooting. In the chaos and with this incredibly high number of victims, they havent even been able to confirm the number of people they are treating. We heard from one employee inside who said, of course, they have called in all Emergency Department and Critical Care nurses. Surrounding hospitals have activated their Emergency Response, called in all available staff. You have to imagine there is some concern this morning about this communitys ability to respond to the sheer volume of victims. We also have to note this morning the Police Presence surrounding the hospital. A number of Law Enforcement vehicles and several officers with long guns waiting at the entrance. So anybody who tries to get into the hospital will have to stop and check in with them first. In the area, of course, that shelter in place order, still in effect. People are urging all nonessential personnel to stay home. You have to imagine all medical staff will be essential to treat all these people who need care. Robin . Reporter robin, good morning. A federal source tells me this is a worst Case Scenario involving a highly skilled gun man who is irrational. The person of interest, robert card, he is a firearms expert and Army Reservist with a history of mental illness, recently telling officials that he was hearing voices and threatening to attack a National Guard base in maine. He was committed to a Mental Health facility for two weeks this past summer. As a result, there are hundreds of federal and state Law Enforcement descending on the scene in a massive drag net. Im told the fbi, u. S. Marshals will offer services as well. The fbi has dozens of agents helping process the crime scene and who are assisting with the victims. The fbi is also helping in the manhunt which involves helicopters and setting up road check points as part of an effort to try to keep this person from escaping the area. Tactical teams will also be made available z as well as behavioral scientists as needed. Sources say this is receiving the highest level of attention from not only the attorney general, fbi director, Homeland Security secretary, but all the president himself. Im told this is literally an all hands on deck situation. He added another one, when he became the first president placed under oath and answered a judges questions as a courtroom witness. This happened after trump, in the courthouse hallway, called the judge very partisan and said theres a person who is very partisan sitting alongside of him. Trump has attacked the judges law clerk before and been admonished not to do it again. On the witness stand, trump insisted he was aiming his remark at michael cohen, who spent two days on the stand, but the judge did not believe him. I find the witness is not credible, the judge said. I find the witness was referring to my law clerk. The judge fining trump 10,000 and warning next time it will be worse. The judge saying, i am very protective of my staff. I dont want anyone killed. Trump was in court to watch cohen, who testified his exboss directed him to make his net worth whatever number he wanted it to be. But on crossexamination, trumps lawyers questioned why cohen told congress back in 2019 trump did not direct him to inflate his net worth . The defense threw up its hand, asked the judge to end the trial because of cohens contradiction. You can see for yourself the damage that was inflicted here. There were a small number of casualties. Many have been forced to leave their homes. It is quite rare for these rockets to get through. Just a few mints ago we had another attempted attack. I heard five interceptions by the air defense system. This as israel launched over 250 strikes in gaza last night targeting hamas, they say. As you say, the civilian casualty rate there climbs enormously. Overnight an israeli tank raid into gaza. The military releasing a video of the operation, saying it was in preparation for the next stages of combat and that the soldiers have since returned to israel. In an address to the nation, Prime Minister netanyahu also saying israel is preparing for a ground operation, though no word on when it will happen. Israel launching hundreds of strikes in gaza, saying its targeting hamas as the situation on the ground becomes ever more dire. Some hospitals reportedly shutting down as fuel runs out. It has been six weeks since the united autoworkers began selective strikes at all three auto makers. Now the job action is over against one of those companies. Uaw and ford both confirming a tentative deal has been reached. The union is calling it a major victory, saying the prospective contract calls for raises of about 25 over four years. It will raise the top wage to more than 40 an hour including an increase of 68 for starting wages to more than 28 an hour. There will be other benefit increases as well. Ford said its looking forward to getting three of its truck plants back up and running and getting its 20,000 employees back to work. Majority of the 57,000 rank and file ford employees will have to approve the proposal for it to become official. Those strikes against General Motors and stellantis remain on going but the ford deal could provide a frame work in negotiations to end those strikes as well. Thank you very much.
