Investigators say that the familys muslim faith was the motive for the attack. She said he knocked on the door and that he attempted to choke her and said, you muslims must die. She ran into the bathroom and called 911. And by the time she came out, he had located and murdered her child, six year old wadiya. President joe biden responded to the incident yesterday day, calling the stabbing horrific. The boys mother is listed in serious condition at a local hospital. She is expected to survive. It was once the largest drugstore chain in america and this morning rite aid has officially filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy as it faces mounting debt and lawsuits over its role in the opioid crisis. And if you go to a neighborhood rite aid today, it should be business as usual. While the company says it is, however, planning to close some of their under performing stores as part of this bankruptcy process, but they have not announced which stores will close just yet. Now, rite aid has more than 2100 pharmacies in 17 states. With the bankruptcy filing last night, the company says it was able to secure 3. 45 billion in new financing from lenders. That money should help it pay employee salaries and carry out its restructuring plan. This all comes after rite aid warned investors in its most recent Financial Report that it expects to lose. Between 650 and 680 million in this fiscal year, which ends in february. Rite aid has faced slowing sales increase competition and recently settled lawsuits for its role in the opioid crisis. Agreeing to pay 30 million as part of the bankruptcy process, the company says it would accelerate the pace of store closures and sell off some of its businesses, including prescription benefit provider Elixir Solutions in a statement, rite aid said the company is making every effort to ensure customers of impacted stores have access to health services, whether at another rite aid or a nearby pharmacy and will work to transfer prescriptions accordingly so that there is no disruption of services as now as part of the plan rite aid also named a new ceo, jeff stein, to serve as head of restructuring. Stein says the Company Plans to remain in business and rite aid says that the company will also be transferring any store associates to other locations where possible. Governor newsom signing a bill into law saturday mandate saying Media Literacy be taught in k through 12 classrooms as use of the internet grows and as technologies like ai become more sophisticated, ad and misinformation becomes more complicated. We think its important that californias young people are taught Media Literacy standards. The move comes as a growing number of young people are turning to social media to stay informed. A recent survey from common sense and surveymonkey showing 55 of teenagers are getting their news from social media. At least three times a week. And according to a 2020 survey from the pew research center, the majority of teens today use youtube and tiktok every day. And some report using these sites almost constantly. Its pretty important that people are able to filter through media and discern what might be factual information, what might be a subjective perspective, or what might be outright, outright false.
