Good evening. Im ama daetz. And im dan ashley. Thanks for joining us. This directive from israel. Israels military now counts down to just before midnight on friday local time in gaza. And in a statement, the United Nations says it considers such a Mass Movement impossible to take place without, quote, devastating humanitarian consequences. Lets take a live look now from gaza city. It is just past 9 a. M. On thursday there right now. This is just a section of the area that is now in a race to clear out palestine citizens and United Nations staff there on the ground. The order could signal an impending ground attack from israel, but its military has not officially confirmed that. And within the past hour, the un says close to 425,000 people have now been displaced from gaza out of a population of almost 2. 5 million. The Associated Press reports at least 2700 people have been killed in both israel and gaza. The crisis began saturday, of course, when the Hamas Terror Group launched a surprise assault on israeli citizens. Earlier today, Us Government said it will Begin Operating evacuation flights tomorrow to help americans leave israel. Of the dead, 27 have been identified as us citizens. Tonight, Law Enforcement around the country are preparing for protests and possible violence after hamas issued a call to all supporters to hold a global day of action. Crews are finished unloading barriers on capitol hill tonight. The department of Homeland Security says there is no, quote, specific or credible threat to the us homeland. But the capitol and us cities are preparing out of an abundance of caution. In new york city, police have extra patrols at schools and houses of worship for the day. The mayor also had this message. Tonight we must remain vigilant. New york city is the most diverse city in the world and protecting our residents is the most sacred responsibility that we have. The fbi says its also monitoring various demonstrate nations tomorrow and sharing information with local agencies. San Francisco Police say they are on high alert. Obviously, if anything turns violent, we wont stand for that and well take appropriate action in order to protect lives and property. But people are coming out to make their voices heard and practice their First Amendment rights. We will absolutely facilitate those and will be on hand to make sure its done in a peaceful and safe manner for anyone who comes out. Californias Homeland Security advisor says they have been in touch with faith leaders and communities across the state. And weve just learned Stanford Law School is moving all of its classes tomorrow to zoom over fears of violence because of ongoing tensions on campus. Now thats according to the stanford daily newspaper. A message from the interim dean reportedly says the school is not facing any credible threats. This is just out of an abundance of caution and this war is causing a jolt at several of our nations universities and college campuses. Today, a group of students at the university of North Carolina protested in support of palestinians in Columbia University in new york city, closed its manhattan campus to allow for dual proisrael and propeace protests. And those same tensions, of course, being felt right here at home. Again, as students watch whats happening in the middle east, there are becoming worried about their own sense of security. Abc7 news south bay reporter Lauren Martinez found one example of what Community Leaders say is a concerning trend and i years old. His favorite subject at his South Bay School is music and this week hes had to field a lot of questions about the israelgaza conflict. I felt a bit worse towards the beginning of the week, but i got more questions actually today. His parents say theyve raised their sons to know the history of palestine, where they still have family helping them just constantly be aware and think about whats happening around them and not be afraid to talk, because thats sometimes our most powerful tool is being able to talk and raise awareness, ahmed says the conversations hes had at school with friends or other classmates have been welcoming. But he said one parent told him not to speak up and this was his response. I dont think its very just just to lower my voice about how palestinians are being oppressed and losing their lives. The executive director for the local chapter of the council on American Islamic relations said shes been overwhelmed with the amount of concern members in the community are coming to her with. Someone said this to me right before i started talking to you, she said. The fear and tension on campus is palpable below said a contributing factor to the concern, then, are the statements some School Districts and leaders are issuing. We saw statements that were gently one sided, and then we saw statements that were vitriolic and said, you know, we stand with israel, which implies that the expense of the over 2 million people, of which more than half are children at the Muslim Community association, volunteer samir lemoine said he too, is working with School Administrators and parents on how to have a healthy dialog. I understand if you want to support the victims of the conflict, atrocities are horrific that are being reported and it is difficult to wrap your head around. But its impacting everyone in san jose, Lauren Martinez, abc seven news and there may be some tough conversations for parents and kids. These workers are now demanding better protection from local leaders. They believe having extra police, as well as harsher punishments for those caught are key. The prosecutor rates for these crimes are alarming low.
