Manny is currently in tel aviv, but was about 30 miles from the gaza border when hamas militants started their assault over the weekend. He described said that he and his relatives having to go from partying to hiding in a bomb shelter with Young Children as the town was targeted by missiles. Carlos granda, abc seven news, social media is playing a significant role in how people get their information about whats going on in the middle east. Misinformation, though, is also being spread on multiple platforms. Gms ceo elon musk was warned by the European Union about some of the content being posted on x, formerly known as twitter. Musk could face a fine or some other penalty. Experts say the huge layoffs at the social Media Company could be playing a role in why so much content and misinformation is being spread online. One piece of advice for users is to look for multiple sources for information, and that source has to be something, a source that is trusted, trustworthy. You know, you know, a wellknown name that they know that theyre going to be liable. There will be some issues if they start spreading bad news, whether it is, you know, you know, that one about the war in the middle east or somewhere else. Mark zuckerberg also received a warning from the European Union about content being spread on facebook and stay with abc seven news for the latest on the conflict in the middle east. Were posting live updates along with deeper coverage on the types of shockwaves being felt here at home. Just be sure to search abc seven news bay area new at 11 finding solutions to drug addiction that was front and center in San Francisco tonight. City leaders joined to honor the lives taken by drug overdoses. Uh abc seven News Reporter tim johns was there tonight and shows you how those lost lives are driving the effort to find help. A moment of prayer followed by the lighting of candles on wednesday, dozens gathered at the Salvation Army in San Francisco to hold a vigil for those who have lost their lives to addiction. An im an alcoholic addict, right . Because of when i drank, i needed that meth to lower it down. So that just kept going. William sheamus was one of those in attendance. Sheamus recently graduated from one of the Salvation Army sobriety programs after struggling with addiction for more than nine years. He tells me he considers himself one of the lucky ones. According to official data, 647 people died of unintentional drug overdoses in San Francisco in 2022, and city officials are worried that this year could be even worse as a city, we have never seen a Public Health crisis like this since the aids crisis. And its not that far away from where the aids crisis was. The epidemic has become a focal point for city leaders as they attempt to clean up San Franciscos image and stop the growing number of deaths. Supervisor matt dorsey, who has been open about his own addiction struggles, believes there has to be an element of force. There is a realization that tough love is the only love there is and if youre just enabling this, youre not doing a favor for anybody whos struggling with addiction. That opinion was similar to the one shared by District Attorney brooke jenkins, as i am most certainly not bringing back the war on drugs, but i am going to prosecute fentanyl dealers. As for sheamus, he says he wouldnt be here today if it werent for the Salvation Armys program. Now hes encouraging everyone who is struggling to get the help they need. Ive been in you guys shoes. I know, i know. Its hard. Its tough because we are lost in our mind. Right . And you just got to you just got to give yourself that chance to be somebody that that you want to be in San Francisco, tim johns, abc seven news. New at 11, a wild, dangerous scene in brentwood tonight where a Police Officer was stabbed in an attack by a suspect. Investigators say that suspect is a 16 year old boy. The officers injuries, thankfully, are not life threatening. Its a question everyone seems to be trying to solve right now. The best way to bring tourists and locals alike back into San Francisco, could the solution be solved with a ferris wheel . The bold plan would change the citys skyline by moving the wheel from Golden Gate Park all the way to Fishermans Wharf. Its not like it could be done with same day delivery. Abc seven News Reporter j. R. Stone spoke to the man behind the wheel about how it could help build a better bay area. How fast could you get the ferris wheel from that location to the other location . So it takes us about a week to break it down and then a week to set it back up. So our schedule is to be open by november 10th. That would put this ferris wheel known as the Skystar Wheel that currently stands 150ft tall in San Franciscos Golden Gate Park in Fishermans Wharf in a matter of weeks before the start of the apec economic forum. Todd schneider is the managing partner of the Skystar Wheel. Its just a matter of, you know, crossing the ts and dotting the is and just, you know, having all the studies to back it up. State officials must still approve the ferris wheels, move along with the bay conservation and development commission, which is currently testing the soil underneath the boudin bakery parking lot to make sure it can safely hold the 465,000 pound wheel. Theres a belief from many that the National Image of San Francisco is no longer just the beautiful images of wharf and the golden gate bridge, but homelessness, car burglaries and store thefts. Schneider believes this ferris wheel with nighttime led lights could help change that and help businesses at the same time for whatever reason, its lost its shine a little bit. And i think we could be the beacon of light that really brings it back. What is it that people like so much about . Ferris wheels . You know, its just a it has a mass appeal from grandkids to grandparents. Its a its an attraction thats been around for over 100 years. Earlier this week, the San Francisco Port Commission passed a plan to revital ys pier 45 and the triangle parking lot east of boudin bakery. Part of that plan is to move the ferris wheel here in a short term test trial type move. Little change to the skyline, but just a theres something about it. Its calming. Its a draw. And you know, the great thing with the observation wheel is its see through so were not blocking anyones view. Its just that Slight Movement along the water is just really has a great massive deal. Our permit stipulates that the led lights are on during operating hours are permitted. Operating hours are going to be from 10 a. M. Till 10 p. M, something that would certainly add to the San Francisco skyline. J. R. Stone, abc seven news. An iconic piece of north beach is getting close to saying goodbye. Of columbus avenue and stockton street blames the citys drop in tourism and conventions for its declining business. The Italian Eatery has served as an iconic Gathering Place for locals, politicians, artists and executive for more than 50 years. The north beach restaurant will officially close in december, and lori thomas, executive director of the Golden Gate Restaurant Association, says making ends meet has been tough for restaurants across the city, especially, of course, since the pandemic. With all of the costs going up for utilities, the garbage, the electric city, the water going up, 9 across the board for all of these vendors, each each at the start of this year, combined with the food costs, the wine costs, the gas costs for deliveries.
