Also ahead, the ups and downs on wall street. Lets take a live look at the stock exchange. Tensions are high after stocks tumbled. Rebecca jarvis will break it down with how it will impact your wallet. Were going to begin with the developments on capitol hill. House speaker Kevin Mccarthy ousted. Members of his own party led the charge to remove him. This is unprecedented. No speaker has ever been put down this way. Our senior Congressional Correspondent rachel scott is on capitol hill with the latest. Good morning, rachel. Reporter george, good morning. This was an extraordinary showdown never seen before in american history. Kevin mccarthy facing a rebellion from members of his own party, becoming the first speaker to be voted out of the house throwing the chamber into chaos and uncertainty. This morning for first type in american history, the house of representatives voting to remove its speaker. The office of speaker of the house of the United States house of representatives is hereby declared vacant. Reporter a handful of far right republicans turning again Kevin Mccarthy after he worked with democrats to make a short term deal to keep the government funded. Do you think mccarthy could ever bang the speakers gavel again . No. Reporter mccarthy was silent as he left the house chamber. Hours later a sudden and unexpected announcement. He will not run for speaker again. I dont regret standing up for choosing governance over grievance. I do not regret negotiating. Our government is designed to find compromise. Reporter mccarthy has been facing threats to his speakership from the moment he clinched the gavel. He won on the 15th round, only after making concession after concession to appeal to the far right wing of his party allowing a single lawmaker to call a vote to remove him. Facing a mutiny, mccarthy realizing the odds were stacked against him. He would need democrats to bail him out. Do you need their help to remain in leadership . No. If five republicans go with democrats, then im out. Probably so. Reporter in the end, eight republicans joined all democrats to oust him as speaker. We need a speaker who will fight for something, anything if this house of representatives has exceeded all expectations, then we definitely need higher expectations. Reporter it left the vast majority of republicans, who were squarely behind mccarthy, infuriated. It is a total distraction. It is a pseudo political fetish we dont have time for. Reporter on the way out, blasting the republican rebels that sank his speakership. They dont get to say theyre conservative because theyre angry and chaotic. Thats not the party i belong to. Reporter but those who voted to remove him already eager to move on. Our bench is very deep. Theres a lot of people that could serve very well in that position. Reporter so this morning there is no permanent speaker. All action will be halted in the house until next week when republicans try to find a new one. For now, congressman Patrick Mchenry will serve in a temporary role, but votes have been cancelled for the week. Members are now leaving town. The deadline for the Government Shutdown looming large, right before thanksgiving, george. Thank you very much. Lets get more from jonathan karl. Jon, the speaker probably sealed his own fate with the deal he made to become speaker many months ago. Reporter he only had a five seat majority. He gave in to the hard liners in his caucus. Basically gave him everything they demanded to become speaker including the ability to recall him as speaker, calling for a vote with a single member. But, george, look. He spent much of his speakership trying to appease people who were never going to be appeased, doing whatever he could to appreciate and get the support of the hard liners. In the end, it was only eight of them that voted to get rid of him. He could have been saved by democrats, george, but in the end he couldnt be saved by democrats because he alienated them so thoroughly during the course of his speakership. Jon, given the divisions in the republican party, particularly in the house, this seems like an impossible job. What do we know about the race to replace him . Reporter well, this may simply be an ungovernable majority. We know Steve Scalise was running, jim jordan who was an ally of mccarthy also seems to be weighing a run. Its unclear anybody can get the support thats needed. The demands now are getting more extreme. One republican, a republican not named by matt gaetz is demanding the Justice Department investigation into donald trump be defunded by congress, by the house, as a condition to get her vote. These are demands that really cant be met and, of course, moderates would object to. Its unclear that anybody can win. If anybody can win, can they actually govern any more effectively than mccarthy could . Two big questions. Thank you very much. Robin . George, now to breaking news overnight. A mass shooting at Morgan State University in baltimore, maryland. Faith abubey is there on the scene and has the latest for us. Good morning, faith. Reporter good morning to you, robin police have lifted the shelter in place order here at morgan univeuniversity. They say five people were shot, four of them students. They all survived. Everybody kind of started alerting the people next to them that there was an active shooter and we should all brace ourselves. It was terrifying because im away from home. Emergency alerts triggering a au always tell us wall street is not like uncertainty. Thats what we are experiencing right now, all right, rebecca think he was in us history. Mola lenghi is in englewood, colorado in englewoo, colorado, with those detailswoo, good morning. Good morning, robin. That officially starting this morning with tens of thousands of Kaiser Permanente workers demanding higher pace and increased staffing. Unless somet unless a deal is reached they plan to continue their strike through the week. This morning roughly 75,000 Health Care Workers in eight states are their goal is to reach a fair and equitable agreement that strengthens Kaiser Permanente as a best place to work. Kaiser executives can solve this if they show up with a sense of urgency. C a mind toward solution means to really do deep investment in workforce infrastructure that is needed. A strike could impact some 13 million patients, though hospitals and ers would remain open, not emergency procedures likely face delays. Well kaiser telling us overnight that several provisions have been agreed upon as negotiations are ongoing. George. Okay, marla, thanks. Were gonna get the latest now on donald trump after the former president defamed a Court Employee on social media, hes facing a gag order from the judge in his civil fraud trial. It bars trump from commenting on members of the court staff, Senior Investigative correspondent Aaron Katersky is tracking the case. Good morning, aaron. George, good morning to you. Former President Trump is returning here for his civil trial after he was hit with that limited gag order. He angered the judge with a social media post disparaging the judges law clerk and judge Arthur Engoron scolded trump about personal attacks on court staff and warned of serious sanctions if it happens again. Trump does not have to be here, but he speaks frequently in the hallway to reporters complaining about the judge and also the woman who brought the case, new York Attorney general letitia james. Her team has been questioning an accountant who testified trump controlled the Financial Statements that the judge has already said were fraudulent because they made him seem far richer than he actually was. And with trump looking on a defense attorney questioned the accountant, marveling at how he prepared the tax returns for the 45th president of the United States, adding maybe even the 4040 seventh president of the United States. That drew a laugh in the courtroom, george, but it shows how trump is trying to use his legal peril to every political advantage. George and aaron, that statement about the court and play just one of a series of inflammata statements the former president has made in recent days and weeks, including calling for the death penalty. The former chairman of the joint chiefs of staff. And now hes facing the prospect of a second gag order. He is george special counsel jack smith has asked a federal judge in washington to impose a gag order against trump, citing what smith called his disparaging and inflammatory attacks with this potentially costly civil case. And for criminal prosecutions weighing on him, trumps rhetoric has gotten increasing violent. You mentioned the call to execute general mark milley. There was also trumps mocking of the attack on former House SpeakerNancy Pelosis husband and in recent days he has called for shoplifter was to be shot without due process. George Aaron Katersky thanks, michael. Definitely not normal behavior there. All right. Thank you, george.
