Tim yeah, amanda, we are right near the powell street bart station here on market street. Firefighters say the call came in around 935 this evening and they tell us it was pretty severe. Now, as a fire says one woman was trapped under the cruise Autonomous Car when they arrived, they did have to use, quote, the jaws of life to pull the woman out. Now at this time, firefighters are only saying her condition is serious and that she is currently being treated at sf general hospital. We just heard from a fire captain with the sf fire department. He tells us its extremely early, but theyre looking into several factors. Theres a number of different concerns when we have Motor Vehicles at intersections, high speed intersections as pedestrians lighting night time. Theres a lot of different factors that can come together to cause injuries. Now, as a fire says, crews is in contact with law enforcement. Officials arent yet sure where the woman was in the intersection when she was hit and run over here. And we two have been in touch with cruise representatives, both via email and those who are here on scene. So far, they are declining to comment. In San Francisco tonight, tim johns, abc seven news. All right, tim, thank you for the latest on that. Now to the south bay, a disaster at a residential daycare in san jose. Two children are dead after falling into a pool and drowning. A third child is recovering and is going to be okay. It happened just after nine this morning at the happy happy daycare on fleetwood drive in the Almaden Valley area. Abc seven news south bay reporter Lauren Martinez is uncovering new information tonight into the history of the home. Two children died after falling into a pool at their Home Daycare Center in san jose. Police say a third child was hospitalized. According to the department of social services, the Home Daycare Center was licensed in january of 2021 to 2 women whose names are not being released at this time. The state has conducted a total of eight visits, including inspections. The purpose of one visit was to discuss the pool in 2020. One. State analyst wrote. There is a pool that is fully fenced within the backyard. The fence is at least five feet high and is constructed so that the fence does not obscure the pool from view. The fence is made from a hard mesh material while the gate swings away from the pool, self closes and has a self latching device located no more than six inches from the top of the gate. The gap between the fence and the floor is less than one inch. In 2021, the licensees had to adjust the pool fence. But in january of this year, three citations were issued. Licenses failed to provide a criminal record clearance for an adult working at the home. Another citation was for not meeting ratio requirements. A state analyst observed five infants when the maximum is four for the other citation was failure to conduct a fire disaster drill within the past six months. On june 6th, a Case Management inspection found no deficient cases. The most recent visit by the state was three weeks ago. On september 13th. It was an unannounced visit. The Daycare Center was cited. The licensees did not document safe sleep checks every 15 minutes. One nearby neighbor said the daycare runs monday through friday from 8 00 to 5 p. M. My thoughts and prayers are with the parents because thats what gets me. Ive been shook up all day, to be quite honest. It just makes my heart and i feel bad for the families because we do. When i take her to school, we watch. We watch the families bring their kids and so we see their faces. Its heartbreaking. The San Jose Police Department Homicide unit and the Santa Clara County das office are conducting a joint investigation into the circumstance dances around the drownings in san jose. Lauren martinez, abc seven news. To the north bay now. There is still no sign of a missing swimmer off the coast of point reyes. But still plenty of questions. The swimmer disappeared in the waters off Wildcat Beach on sunday after witnesses called to report a shark attack. The Us Coast Guard spent all day searching for the swimmer, a mission that came up empty handed. The National Park service is categorizing this incident as an unconfirmed shark attack, but also say there are a lot of dangerous rip currents along that coast. Sometimes we get in our head and were like, oh, the water looks nice. Why not just jump in and cool off . Things can change. You never know whats out there. National Park Service Rangers will continue their search operation. The coast guard is calling off its search. Were told the victim was with a group who traveled to the scenic part of point reyes for a wedding celebration. Helicopter right there and its just amazing actually playing with the ship is right there next to me. Its super cool because having having the ship in the background and playing with all the all the older people, its super fun. Older people are described by the boys and girls club. Tonight, we start with another possible historic strike in a summer full of them, this one involving Kaiser Permanente. Workers up and down the west coast and in the d. C. Area. With now just hours left to reach a deal, the two sides are racing to avoid what could be the Largest Health care strike in us history. Abc7 News Reporter tim johns is closely following where things stand. He has this report on what it means for you for around 75,000 Kaiser Permanente Health Care Workers nationwide, including here in the bay area, could soon be on a three day strike. An Umbrella Organization of about a dozen unions representing the workers say they plan to strike starting wednesday morning if they cant come to a new working agreement with kaiser. I want to make sure that my employment i can take im thinking about my patient all the time, not thinking about. I have to take a second job to be able to do, you know, to survive. Sonia allen smith works as a kaiser Radiology Technician in oakland. She says issues like chronic understaffing, low pay and worker burnout are some of the top issues she and her colleagues want addressed. Ellen smith tells me while these issues have been around for years, the pandemic has made them worse. Now, she says, its impacting patient care because kaiser simply doesnt have enough people. I treat every patient that comes in as as if they were my mom or as if they were my brother, my family members. If a strike were to happen. Kaiser permanente says their hospitals and Emergency Departments would remain open, but that some nonurgent medical appointments may need to be rescheduled in a statement, they said, quote, a strike is not inevitable and is certainly not justified. Our goal is to reach a fair and equitable agreement that strengthens Kaiser Permanente as a best place to work and ensures that the high quality care our members expect from us remains affordable and easy to access. The kaiser strike would be just the latest in a series of major strikes that has happened nationwide in recent months. All of them share similarities, says labor law Professor William gould. Much of it grows out of a labor shortage. Some of it grows out of wages that have been depressed in the past and labor much of organized labor, is trying to engage in a kind of catch up as negotiations head into their final day.
