It seems like getting to zero infections with hiv is within reach. But San Francisco, there is so much more to do. Even though its 30 years later. The mission is still as important as it was 30 years ago. The atrocities of having emceed by abc7 morning news anchor reggie aqui, the gala marked a milestone and throughout the night many reflected on us senator Dianne Feinsteins role in the fight against aids. Early on, we were the epicenter of the epidemic and we were really struggling to figure out who our champions would be. There would be many, but among them, some say, was then San Francisco mayor Dianne Feinstein. In many different elected offices over time, senator feinstein worked to ensure that we had the local funding that we needed or the federal funds necessary. That funding was crucial in keeping people alive, says paul aguilar. There are 16,000 people all living with hiv in San Francisco, 74 of them are over the age of 50. Im one of those people diagnosed in 1988, aguilar says. The funding feinstein fought for allowed for the best medical care in the nation, and that transformed how people live with the disease. It was about saving lives. That was her focus. And, you know, were grateful for all that she brought to San Francisco. That doesnt mean feinstein didnt have her critics. The sisters of perpetual indulgence, who were honored at the gala for their work, say they didnt always agree with feinsteins policies. Well, we didnt quite get along. Senator feinstein told us. We came to a mutual agreement that we were here to serve the community in our own ways. The person who will replace feinstein in the us senate will be appointed by governor gavin newsom. A fire broke out on lillian street near crockett and fire officials are sharing information online, including the death of one person. The fire was contained at eight this morning. New details on developments now as congress narrowly averted a Government Shutdown. And it was down to the wire. President biden signed the bill minutes before the midnight deadline. You you dont you cant articulate a solid enough message to get me to change on this one. As the country barreled toward a shutdown, mccarthy struggled to unite his party around a plan, telling republicans if they voted for a short term spending bill, he would add Border Security provisions. But it was never enough. They rebelled against him. I dont want to be a part of that team. I want to be a part of a conservative group that wants to get things done. Its a stark turnabout for the speaker who just days ago demanded this from democrats. If the president wants to make sure that we can keep government funded, take an action on the border now, mccarthy praising bipartisanship, something those handful of far right republicans are threatening to oust him for now, its his speakership on the line. Governor Gavin Newsoms office announced the latest series of bills he both signed and vetoed the governor vetoed a bill which would have given Unemployment Benefits to striking workers. Newsom says he supports workers and labor unions, but he vetoed the bill because the state estimates its unemployment budget will be 20 billion in debt by the end of the year. The governor also vetoed a bill that would have enforced safety laws for domestic workers, but he did sign a bill that closes an existing loophole and bolsters eviction protections for renters. More than 75,000 Health Care Workers could walk off the job in what would be the Largest Health care strike in us history. Unionized Health Care Workers, including nurses and emts, are negotiating new contracts with kaiser permanente. Their original contract ended last night, and bargaining continues as a strike could begin on wednesday. Unionized staff are asking for increased pay, job protections and solutions to fix labor shortages. One Armed Robbery suspect has died and another injured following a police chase in San Francisco saturday afternoon. Officers say the shipping crew suspects were in a car, wanted in multiple auto burglaries in the palace of fine arts area.
