As 5 a week. Remember dont be dave. Call now. Call now. 800 ■ a8643604. Code three, room 200. Im in the Mayors Office. Both mayor moscone and supervisor harvey milk have been shot and killed. Oh harvey was the only elected gay official in the whole state. And one of the first in the whole country. Suspect the supervisor, dan white. Dan white reloaded his gun, left the Mayors Office and walked down the hall to the board of supervisors offices. Building a better bay area. Moving forward, finding solutions. This is abc7 news. She died the way she lived on her own terms when she was ready. And now weve lost her so were sad, but were celebrate her life this morning. A monumental return. The body of late senator Dianne Feinstein is now in the bay area as family and Close Friends gather to remember her good morning to you. It is sunday, the 1st of october. Im karina nova. Before we get to that story and more, we have meteorologist lisa argen here with what to expect today and today. Should we see more sunshine, maybe less clouds, less rain than yesterday . Yes, i know exactly. It was a lot of rain. A third over a third of an inch in napa yesterday. But starting out with live doppler seven, you can see the fog hugging the shoreline. So most of us experiencing some sunshine above the marine layer here from vollmer peak where temperatures are in the mid 50s. San francisco, 62 in san jose with oakland at 60 degrees. And a look at the golden gate bridge, partly cloudy, a nice day on the way. Still shy of average 54. Santa rosa, 64 by the delta upper level winds are quite gusty as we get on the back side of this system. We are cooler in the north bay, milder in the south bay. So look at the upper level winds 40 mile an hour north wind mount saint helena, mount diablo, almost as gusty. So this will help us warm up rather quickly. Were sunny near 70 by noontime inland and well talk about upper 70s for our highs today. Inland wait till you see the seven day outlook. It is hot. Karina. Thanks, lisa. This morning, senator Dianne Feinsteins body is in San Francisco. A military flight transported her to San Francisco International Airport saturday evening. Among the people there was longtime colleague and friend, speaker emerita nancy pelosi, abc7 News Reporter Tara Campbell was there and she had a chance to speak to the congresswoman ready to uh all uniformed personnel preset her a salute for late senator Dianne Feinstein set to be laid to rest in San Francisco. So were so happy to have her have the appropriate welcome home to San Francisco. Echo speaker emeritus nancy pelosi among a handful of Close Friends and Family Gathering we thought is one with great sorrow but great pride in dianne arriving at San Francisco International Airport saturday evening and escorted to sinai memorial chapel. Theres no one like her. She was wonderful. All we want to do is pay respects to her. We wanted to recognize this moment in history and in San Francisco history and in in world history. And not too far from the funeral home, the senators former home marked by offerings of gratitude, including this thank you note. This is her city and that she will be sorely missed, recalled when thensupervisor feinstein became the citys first female mayor after the assassination of supervisor harvey milk and mayor George Moscone and she led during a dark time in the city and brought a beacon of light and hope to us she was one of the first the women that got into politics and were Strong Enough to be able to battle her way up the ladder and stay there. Going on to become the first and longest serving woman in congress. Last official thing she did in washington was to vote to advance the bill to keep government open. And i love that she was very passionate about what she did up until the end. You know, she clearly loved what she did. She gives the word icon a whole other meaning because she was so spectacular in every way. She met every challenge with dignity, strength and eloquence, remembering and mourning senator feinsteins legacy already lasting. Dianes passage has been one that has inspired us all that was Tara Campbell reporting. Speaker emerita pelosi said the family wanted privacy as far as plans for any public participation. We do know Funeral Plans are underway, say senator feinstein. Was also top of mind for many at the 30th annual gala for the San Francisco aids foundation. The late senator is credited with leading the charge at the onset of the aids epidemic. Abc seven News Reporter unser hassan was at last nights event and tells us more. Its been a hard fought battle against hiv aids in San Francisco. Many of the annual Sf Aids Foundation gala say more still needs to be done. It seems like getting to zero infections with hiv is within reach. But San Francisco, there is so much more to do. Even though its 30 years later. The mission is still as important as it was 30 years ago. The atrocities of having emceed by abc7 morning news anchor reggie aqui, the gala marked a milestone and throughout the night many reflected on us senator Dianne Feinsteins role in the fight against aids. Early on, we were the epicenter of the epidemic and we were really struggling to figure out who our champions would be. There would be many, but among them, some say, was then San Francisco mayor Dianne Feinstein. In many different elected offices over time, senator feinstein worked to ensure that we had the local funding that we needed or the federal funds necessary. That funding was crucial in keeping people alive, says paul aguilar. There are 16,000 people all living with hiv in San Francisco, 74 of them are over the age of 50. Im one of those people diagnosed in 1988, aguilar says. The funding feinstein fought for allowed for the best medical care in the nation, and that transformed how people live with the disease. It was about saving lives. That was her focus. And, you know, were grateful for all that she brought to San Francisco. That doesnt mean feinstein didnt have her critics. The sisters of perpetual indulgence, who were honored at the gala for their work, say they didnt always agree with feinsteins policies. Well, we didnt quite get along. Senator feinstein told us. We came to a mutual agreement that we were here to serve the community in our own ways. The person who will replace feinstein in the us senate will be appointed by governor gavin newsom. Im sure the governor will make a very, very strong choice. He he i know being very thoughtful about it and im sure hell make a good decision. In San Francisco, anzar hassan, abc seven news overnight , a person has died after a house fire in the east bay early this morning. A fire broke out on lillian street near crockett and fire officials are sharing information online, including the death of one person. The fire was contained at eight this morning. New details on developments now as congress narrowly averted a Government Shutdown. And it was down to the wire. President biden signed the bill minutes before the midnight deadline. In a stunning reversal, speaker Kevin Mccarthy pushed through a bill with democratic votes to temporarily keep the government open. Abcs rachel scott reports on whats in the bill and whats not. This morning, congress averting a Government Shutdown with just hours to spare. The yeas are 335, the nays are 91. House speaker Kevin Mccarthy suddenly dropping his demands moving forward with the bill that keeps the government funded through november 17th. And adds 16 billion in disaster aid. But he had to rely on democratic votes to get it past 90 republicans and one democrat voted against it is laid on the table. Youre a no on this. Im a no. And you aint changing me on it. You you dont you cant articulate a solid enough message to get me to change on this one. As the country barreled toward a shutdown, mccarthy struggled to unite his party around a plan, telling republicans if they voted for a short term spending bill, he would add Border Security provisions. But it was never enough. They rebelled against him. I dont want to be a part of that team. I want to be a part of a conservative group that wants to get things done. Its a stark turnabout for the speaker who just days ago demanded this from democrats. If the president wants to make sure that we can keep government funded, take an action on the border now, mccarthy praising bipartisanship, something those handful of far right republicans are threatening to oust him for now, its his speakership on the line. I would say its on some tenuous ground. Mccarthy saying bring it. Thats all right. If republic an and Democrats Join together to do what is right, if somebody wants to make a motion against me, bring it. There has to be an adult in the room. Democrats didnt get everything they wanted either. No additional funding for ukraine. The bill cleared the senate with strong bipartisan support. Schumer vowing to keep the pressure on. We will not stop fighting for more economic and Security Assistance for ukraine when majorities in both parties support ukraine aid and doing more is vital for americas security and for democracy around the world. Millions were at risk of losing their paychecks if the government shut down. All that has been averted. But just for now, remember, this is a short term deal only keeping the government funded until november 17th, which means we could be right back here having this fight. All over again in about 45 days. Rachel scott, abc news, capitol hill. To the State Capitol now. Governor Gavin Newsoms office announced the latest series of bills he both signed and vetoed the governor vetoed a bill which would have given Unemployment Benefits to striking workers. The governor also vetoed a bill that would have enforced safety laws for domestic workers, but he did sign a bill that closes an existing loophole and bolsters eviction protections for renters.
