And this soldier standing guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier through the storm at the Arlington National cemetery never leaving his post. Police in that state investigating a possible storm related death of a 43yearold man reportedly killed after a tree fell onto his home. Another tree falling onto a house in easton, massachusetts the work of an ef1 tornado. My wife was actually on the porch filming the rain. She turned her camera off. The grand jury is expected to convene here again early this week as former President Trump waits to find out if hes going to be indicted in a third case. This morning a decision whether to charge former President Trump for his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election in the january 6th attack at the capitol is inching closer. Special counsel jack smith has already added charges to the indictment about trumps handling of classified documents, alleging he sought to have Security Camera footage destroyed, knowing the fbi wanted to see it. Campaigning under indictment, trump spent the weekend lashing out. These are ridiculous indictments. They want to damage the leading candidate, by the way leading by far, i have to say. Reporter while the criminal charges appear to be costing trump no political support, defending them is costing the Political Action Committee Trump uses to pay his legal bills. Sources telling abc news a Campaign Filing coming today will show the running tab is already more than 40 million. And to cover similar bills now piling up for some ally, the sources say trumps team is creating a Legal Defense fund. Trumps Legal Defense is his campaign case, and his rivals for the republican nomination in 2024 are still looking for an effective line of attack. I dont think that was a good use of the money. We need to be focusing on using our energy on resources on defeating biden and the democrats. We need a new leader. I think he was good then. I dont think hes going to be good moving forward. Reporter and really nothing seems to be working. A new New York Times poll out shows trump crushing his republican rivals. On the legal front the updated indictment in the classified documents case charge the property manager at trumps palm beach estate. Today hes due in court, accused of helping trump obstruct the governments investigation. Whit . Were going to talk more about that right now, aaron. Victor oquendo is in miami with the latest on that part of the story. Victor, good morning. Reporter good morning, whit. The newest player in the alleged coverup, carlos deoliviera, the property manager at maralago set to appear here in miami. The details are stunning. The 56yearold now facing two charges of obstruction based on allegations that he, along with former President Trump and personal aide walt nauta attempted to delete footage at maralago in june of 2022. De oliviera is also charged with making false statements to the fbi in a volunteer interview in january. Classified documents were removed from a storage closet at maralago. The special counsel saying trump, nauta and de oliviera were trying to destroy evidence of that taking place. The indictment says de oliviera allegedly said the boss wanted the footage deleted and asked how long it kept footage. That employee responded saying he didnt know how to do that, but de oliviera pressed the employee, not taking no for an answer asking, what are we going to do . All of this allegedly taking place after the subpoena for the security footage had been sent to trumps attorney. So far no comment from de oliviera or his attorney. Whit . Authorities say a group of women were gathered outside an event when a black jeep drove by and opened fire. And, unfortunately, the number of Mass Shootings continues to climb. At least 418 so far this year compared to about 259 at this point last year. Robin . All right. Thank you so much. Michael . Thank you, robin. Now to new concerns that chinas hacked critical u. S. Infrastructure in the search for malicious computer code systems that control American Power grids and Water Supplies. Our chief Global Affairs correspondent Martha Raddatz has more for us. Good morning, martha. Reporter the fear is that hidden malware in infrastructure like power grids and Water Supplies are meant to disrupt possible future military operations, especially those that could involve taiwan. The New York Times quotes an official saying that chinese hackers have what is essentially a ticking time bomb that could allow china to stall military deployments by cutting off Power Communications or Water Supplies at u. S. Military bases or even beyond those bases to those of just ordinary citizens. It was just back in may that microsoft said it detected malware associated with china in guam, saying it could disrupt critical communications, infrastructure between the u. S. And the asia region during future crises. The Biden Administration saying only they are working relentlessly to defend the u. S. From disruption, while urging Public Utilities to step up their cyber defenses. Michael . Thank you. Whit . Video circulating online showing the moment the one uab exploded in an office used by the russian government. It was the third strike on moscow in the last week alone. Russia blaming ukraine. President zelenskyy simply saying, gradually the war is returning to the territory of russia. Here on the battlefield inside ukraine, more advances for the Ukrainian Armed forces. Perhaps a sign russia is starting to feel the pressure. The former russian president repeating threats about using a Nuclear Weapon if kyivs counter offensive is successful. Whit . Another major concern there. Ian, thank you. Michael . Renewed pain at the pump. Gas prices climbing to their highest in eight months right in the midst of the summer driving season. Trevor ault is live at a gas station here in new york with the numbers. Good morning, trevor. Reporter good morning, michael. You know, for months and months we had been enjoying gas prices falling. At least for the time being they are back on the upswing. National average for a gallon of gas is 3. 75. Thats up 0. 16 from just last week. You mentioned its the highest its been in the past eight months. A big factor according to experts is this heat. Its supressing production at oil refineries, places like texas and louisiana. So hot that they cannot operate at full capacity. What that means is our oil reserves are the lowest theyve been in eight years. The price for oil has gone up. Also this time of year naturally a bit more people are driving. Means demand for gas is going up. All of those factors mean you are probably going to pay more at the gas pump. For some perspective, we are still about 0. 50 cheaper than we were for a gallon of gas than we were this time last year. I guess thats one way to try to make you feel better about it. Trevor, youre following another major headline for us that could impact americans. One of the biggest Trucking Companies in the u. S. Is shutting down . Reporter yes. So this is a Trucking Company called yellow, michael. It is a giant company, nearly a century old. Theyre expected to file for bankruptcy as early as today. Yellows got nearly 30,000 employees, 12,000 trucks. They have major customers. Were talking about walmart, home depot. They do a ton of the shipping. The government deemed them so essential that they gave them a 700 million covid relief loan to keep them functioning. Now theyre expected to be the largest trucking bankruptcy in u. S. History. What that means for you is that experts estimate this means delivery costs a p going to go up as other firms are trying to pick up the slack as yellow goes into bankruptcy. Michael . Trevor, thank you very much. Robin . Lets switch gears to the world cup. The u. S. Getting ready to play its final group game, taking on a Portugal Team making its world cup debut with advancements still up in the air. Maggie rulli is live in aubg aubgland, new zealand. Good morning, maggie. Reporter robin, good morning. The best company. We all know how important today is. Today is do or die for team usa. Theyre going into their final match of group play against portugal. Its all on the line. Team usa wins or ties they are guaranteed to advance to the next round of 16. If they lose, this is when it starts to get complicated. What happens now . They leave their fate into the hands of the other match in the group, netherlands. Their showdown against vietnam is happening at the same time. If team usa gets kicked out of the tournament after this game, it will be the first time ever, ever, that they have not made it through the group rounds. It will also be the last world cup game for team legend megan rapinoe. She recently gave a free wheeling press conference, where she said this team is used to the pressure. Theyre ready for it. I want to quote her but i have to edit it for morning tv. She said we go into these moments like, heck yeah, this is exactly where we want to be. The latest performer to be hit by something thrown by a concert goer. Were gonna tell you how she fought back and what shes saying about the incident. She was not happy. No, she wasnt. And judgment day for Lori Vallow Daybell, the so called doomsday mom set to be sentenced today for the murders of two children and her husbands exwife.
