these views because we're gonna to be seeing a lot more rain than we're experiencing now. let me show you live picture and you will notice that it is slippery on the golden gate bridge live doppler 7 showing you some wet roadways in the east bay at this hour around alvarado niles road, union city paseo, padre parkway and fremont on the peninsula. you will notice from portola road out towards fairway drive and half moon bay still seeing some light rain this system from yesterday just stalled out. it's a light level one. system and feeding that moisture right into our area so when you look at the hourly forecast scattered showers for the 5 am commute start time and then moderate pockets as we head into 11 am a stronger storm this weekend with an atmospheric river may bring us rainfall in inches rainfall far over an inch in santa a quarter of an inch hayward you're looking at about just under a half an inch in san francisco. so not bad. i'll be back with a full look at the hour by hour forecast going into the weekend coming up dan okay. sandy. thanks so much rainfall in inches. well, obviously we need the rain desperately in this parched state, but it also causing is causing some problems tonight fallen trees power outages and fender benders on slick roads. just some of the problems we've seen today. sirens combined with the sound of falling rain today in san rafael wet roads contributing to several crashes including this one on highway 101 involving four vehicles. we're inside in the kitchen and we just heard a loud crunch. we said what is that another crashing sound this time a large pine tree toppling into david burns yard in mill valley taking down power lines along with it. i just walked around the block and every other business is closed power outages affected several neighborhoods across the bay area. like here in oakland's montclair village, wherever businesses without electricity had to shut down surface was restored hours later. i think it was scary outage is also left parts of a peninsula berkeley el cerrito and albany in the dark. pg&e says some of those outages are due to pole fires caused by rain turning dirt on the power lines into mud which conducts electricity and can start fires. san francisco got a good soaking. and warnings are going out as we prepare for even more rain a sandbag station is now open in santa rosa mill valley issued a winter storm alert on its website. there is reason for concern and some of these burn scars that a lot of northern california has experiencing right now. thousands of people on the bay area are without power tonight. this is a look at pg&e's outage map right now the green dots indicate relatively small outages. everything else is a larger outage right now. the biggest outages are near digging into approaches to education is a key part of our efforts to build a better bay area the district recently announced plans to possibly close or consolidate nine schools because of a major funding shortfall abc 7 news reporter jr. stone has more on parents specific worries. wednesday evening hundreds of hayward community members attended this town hall zoom meeting about a plan. the district says would close and cons. a these nine schools over the next three years and an additional five according to these charted plans parents teachers and even students sounding off and one of my teachers are going to work in doordash and over that's unacceptable, but while jobs are a concern the superintendent says that no teacher would lose their position also saying that there are major money issues that need to be addressed we yes, we have a budget shortfall of 14 million dollar. it's even if that's addressed. we have the 900 million dollars in facility repairs. we need to make which we just don't have those resources school administrators referencing this graph that shows the gradual decline of students in hayward unified since 2005 5,500 fewer student. now attend parents and teachers though not happy about a plan to close neighborhood schools. they say this move will disproportionately affect minority families in many locations. it's an attack in our community to the time when we're still of dealing with all of the social emotional impact of covid how many people can you jam in there? and how many people should you put in? there are two totally different numbers? that's not playing y'all playing games. y'all need to just stop between us and the other two schools are a couple freeways. so they're what are they going to do? they can't walk they're gonna have to bus, how much does that cost? you can't get bus drivers in this day and age school officials say they are evaluating that and the other points made here so that they can vote on a finalized measure by the end of the year jr. stone. abc 7 news the pandemic now the food and drug administration has authorized booster shots for people who receive the moderna or johnson & johnson vaccines, but it's not california counties are suing the utility for damage done by the deadly dixie fire the dixie fire broke out in july and burned more than 963,000 acres plumas butte lassen shasta and tehama counties are suing for damages for lost revenues increased expenses and destruction of interest structure among other things their lawsuit alleges pg&e. equipment caused the fire cal fire says the cause is still under investigation. however in a statement tonight pg&e says in part we have not been able to review all of the evidence cal fire collected as we've said previously pg&e believes. we operated
