California confirmed its first case of the new covid variant first seen in the uk there are now two cases identified in colorado. Kate larsen spoke to an expert about why this variant may be more transmissible. Reporter according to officials, the covid variant first seen in the uk was detected in a man in his 30s who lives in san diego county. Because theres no travel history, we believe this is not an isolated case. Reporter Colorado Health Officials Say one case and a suspected second case of the variant were from National Guard members deployed to a nursing home outside of denver. Governor newsom discussed the variant with dr. Anthony fauci. I dont think the californians should feel this is something odd. This is something expected. Theres no indication at all that it increases the virulence. And by virulence, i mean the ability to make you sick or kill you. Shannon bennett is the chief of science at cal academy. She explained why the variant may be spreading faster. There are mutations for this variant in many parts of the whole spike protein, and some of them, the ones on the receptor binding domain, are likely to icrease the stickiness. But the ones that are in the fusion domain might increase its efficiency to fuse with the host cell membrane and enter the host cell. Reporter the good news . Dr. Fauci also suggests that april could be open season for most to receive the vaccine and that by early fall we could see some sense of normality return. Dr. Jerome adams is on gma this morning talking about the criticism of the vaccine rollout. From a federal perspective we are on track to have 20 Million People able to be vaccinated, doses on the ground by the end of next week as general perna said. Were on track from that perspective and have to help the state even local entities to get the vaccines administered and into bodies and arms. The Surgeon General talked about the new variant of coronavirus. Take any worry you have and understand the vaccines still look like theyre going to work and talked to dr. Diane suddenly found dozens of mysterious charges on her edd account many from a company in africa. What is this whogohost west africa, south africa. I dont know. All she knew is her Unemployment Benefits were gone. 7,000 taken out of my account. It hurts. She immediately called bank of america. Im on hold for three hours and then you finally get someone on the phone and click. You get disconnected. Instead of reimbursing her for the fraud, bank of america denied her claim, let the fraudulent charges stand and then froze her account. I was angry, cried a lot right before christmas. Diane says the bank never alerted her to the suspicious charges as they piled up. I have nothing, absolutely nothing. I think i have 12 cents in the bank right now. Thank you for continuing to hold. Your call is important to us. She tried the bank once more. Were experiencing higher than normal wait times. We appreciate your patience. Hello . Are you there . Got disconnected. It left her with nothing for the holidays. Thankfully my kids understood. Christmas is our favorite holiday. We would love to get together and have a nice big meal, open presents. We didnt have that this year. Kind of makes me sad, but we asked bank of america why they didnt reimburse her for the apparent fraud and now the bank agreed to reconsider her case telling us we encourage people who disagree with our decision to ask for reconsideration. We take any new information and if it addresses our concerns, we will credit the customers account. Hopefully ill get my money back and well be able to celebrate christmas at a later date. I have good news. I just got word after our investigation, bank of america has now agreed to reverse those fraudulent charges and return dianes money. Bank of america says it is in the process of unlocking her account now so diane should have money in time to celebrate the new year. Now, i want to thank bank of america for making this a better holiday for this family. Now, if your edd account is hacked or frozen, remember, im here to help. Contact me through our website.
