The surge is forcing new restrictions and leaving Business Owners and now sports teams to figure out the next steps. All of these new restrictions are made with health in mind, something were focused on as we work to build a better bay area. More than 15,600 covid cases were reported today in california. That is the second highest count ever. Numbers later this week will be a better reflection of the holidays impact. Results in many counties are lagging because of the long weekend. Now, the number of people hospitalized is more than 7,400. Thats more than triple when compared to a month ago on october 29th. Public Health Experts fear that holiday gatherings and travel could worsen the covid surge. Data shows hundreds of thousands of people traveled despite warnings not to. Reporter starting tomorrow, santa clara is the only bay area county to enact a mandatory quarantine for travelers coming from 150 miles away or more. California issued a travel advisory more than two weeks ago recommending anyone coming into the state selfquarantine for two weeks, but so far officials are relying on travelers to selfpolice. Got back yesterday, and airports were busy. It doesnt seem like it outside, but inside its busy. Reporter dave lall works for an airline at sfo and came back after visiting family in new jersey. He says he was supposed to work today, but is playing the quarantine by ear. Took the day off today because i did feel a little under the weather. Reporter meantime, he just got back from ethiopia. I was expecting a lot of people traveling, but i found like a few passengers on the plane. Reporter he says he took a test before he left but wasnt planning on quarantining. I didnt feel any of the symptoms. Reporter still the pandemic and travel advisories have significantly curbed holiday travel. Yesterday about 960,000 people passed through tsa gates. Santa clara county announced the new quarantine restriction yesterday along with some new rules for businesses due to a fear of rising hospitalizations. Professional, collegiate and youth sports are suspended until at least december 21st. This has created quite the dilemma for the 49ers, who spoke about their next steps after playing in l. A. Dion, that news was both surprising and disappointing for 49ers head coach child the ban of sports in Santa Clara County over the next three weeks leaves the 49ers looking for a place to practice and play. Right now no official decision has been made on that location. Coach shanahan said safety is the top concern while finding an adequate place to practice. They also need a stadium to actually play the games. The 49ers have two scheduled, quote, unquote, home games, monday december 7th against the bills. Thats a game youll see on abc7. And sunday, december 14th, against washington. They still plan on playing those games. The question still remains where. We can handle anything, and we understand how big of a deal this virus is. Thats why were so committed. So we feel like weve done it as good as we and not only protected ourselves but really protected our community. Right now we dont have a home. We dont know where were going to be. Its up to the organization and, you know, the county and stuff like that to figure those things us. She says theyll decide on Team Practices and when is where games will be played in conjunction with the Schools Administration and the Mountain West athletic conference. San francisco and san mateo counties also have new restrictions in place. Both counties moved to the purple tier today. Along with restrictions, the move means a 10 00 p. M. To 5 00 a. M.
