Good evening, dion. Yeah. As you can see, behind me, firefighters still blasting water onto the sevenstory Apartment Building under construction. This is at university, right in the heart of berkeley and its been burning for hours, likely causing significant damage to this building. Just after 6 00, flames erupted. Watched it literally go up. Reporter he saw from his apartment, across the street. Whats going on . Check the window and all you see it flame up. Reporter his comfort did not last long, as firefighters came door to door. He managed to take his dog, apollo, but forgot his mask. Firefighters say no other structures were burned. Though, the Apartment Building to the west will definitely have water damage. Residents there could be displaced. I know how much power is in one of these hoses. Reporter with several blocks closed off and smoke seen billowing throughout the city, the fire drew many onlookers. I admire the firemen, the policemen, just absolutely. I admire them and im here to watch them in action. Reporter the sevenstory building was under construction. Firefighters say the foreman was onsite, earlier today, but left at 5 00. No one was inside. The scaffolding and the height of the building created challenges. It may not be certain enough to enter, especially if the fire has been going for a while. Especially, just trying to get through that netting. And were assuming theres no sprinkler systems, you know, active in there. Reporter and the red cross is out here on scene. Unclear, yet, how many people were evacuated or possibly displaced by this fire. As for the cause of this fire, firefighters say all of that is still under investigation. M. It applies to all 41 counties in the purple tier, you see here, where the virus is widespread. That includes the counties of sonoma, napa, solano, contra costa, santa clara, and santa cruz. But some police and sheriffs departments have said they will not, in order to prioritize responding to crime. Officials say the curfew is to protect Peoples Health as cases surge but it will certainly have an impact on alreadystruggling businesses. And took the one, whose smile, hugs, and warmth, made jamal and his girlfriend makayla feel right at home. Wandas husband, lonni, passed away in march. Wanda, there with him in his final moments. It was five minutes later and he passed away. So sorry. Its okay. I know its hard. She knew her first thanksgiving without him would be hard. But jamal and makayla would make sure she wouldnt be lonely, this holiday. They decided to have an early, my think knowing even though lonni isnt here, his spirit is. Jamal knows he would hear this. I would just like to say hi. Say thank you for opening welcoming me into your home, with open arms, from day one. Reporter lonni would always say grace before the thanksgiving meal. He was wandas biggest cheerleader. So, in his honor, surrounded with family by blood and family by choice, wanda led prayer knowing lonni would be proud.
