President trump needs pennsylvania to win the white house. And a major update, biden has taken the lead in the state of georgia where he had been trailing since election day as the vote count has been coming in overnight. And were expecting more votes today from the atlanta suburbs and from savannah. Both are blue areas. Looking at arizona, a bright spot for the president. Bidens lead is shrinking to about 47,000 votes overnight. All eyes there on Maricopa County. More votes are being released today. The president watching the results come in overnight. He tweeted around 2 30 a. M. Eastern falsely claiming that hes won the election and he also suggested in his tweets that the Supreme Court should intervene. Abcs andrea fajihi begins our coverage. Reporter overnight, Trump Supporters holding stop the steal rallies in states where votes are still being counted. In philadelphia, streets packed with protesters. Police using barricades to separate dueling rallies. Some demanding every vote be counted. Others decrying ballot fraud. The protests coming hours after President Trump defiantly declared victory. If you count the legal votes, i easily win. Reporter trump claiming without evidence that the election was rigged. Ive already decisively won many critical states including massive victories. Reporter legal experts calling the president s accusations of massive voter fraud baseless. Its very worrying because theres no doubt that a lot of people who support him will think he must be telling the truth that where theres smoke, theres fire. Its really damaging to american democracy. Reporter joe biden urging people to keep the faith, tweeting overnight that no one is going to take our democracy away from us. America has come too far, fought too many battles and endured too much to let that happen. We have no doubt that when the count is finished, senator harris and i will be declared the winners. So i ask everyone to stay calm. Reporter President Trump also suggesting ballots in pennsylvania are being received after the allotted time. Democrats have allowed ballots in the state to be received three days after the election, and we think much more than that. Reporter but Election Officials insist theyre counting legally cast ballots. Thats because the day before the election, the Supreme Court ruled against the president s campaign and allowed a threeday extension for receiving absentee ballots in pennsylvania. The president also making this claim. The philadelphia observers have been kept far away, very far away. So far that people are using by kno binoculars to try and see. Reporter it shows a person standing behind a barrier to watch those could wanting ballots inside the convention center. Observers were able to get a closer view. The president also saying windows at counting locations are being papered over. And it became a little bit dangerous. One major hub for counting ballots in detroit covered up the windows, again, with large pieces of cardboard. Reporter workers at a detroit counting location did cover windows at the site. But that was after what officials described as a chaotic confrontation when protesters arrived at the building. Press secretary Kayleigh Mcenany retweeting video of the windows being covered with more than 7 million views and the caption, shady. This morning, Election Officials tell the new york times, the windows were covered because of concern about people taking unauthorized photographs and videos. The president also claiming that the election apparatus in georgia is run by democrats, but georgias secretary of state is a republican. Trump even endorsed him in 2018. In the meantime, some republicans are pushing back against the president. Because i know theres a lot of people who think this election is stolen. A lot of people think there is fraud, and you know what . There may be fraud. There may be we dont know that right now, and for the president to go out and claim that without any evidence of that is is dangerous. Reporter tennessee senator marsha blackburn, an ally of the president requesting to see evidence of any irregularities. What i think is that if there are irregularities, lets document them. Police are investigating in an alleged plot where people were being attacked. After a tip of a hummer near a convention center, the tip claimed the the group drove the vehicle from virginia with plans for an attack. A gun was found and at least one man was taken into custody. In nevada, protesters gathered at the election center. The Trump Campaign has now filed a lawsuit claiming among other things, that ballots were cast on behalf of deceased voters. Earlier thursday, the Trump Campaign lost court cases in georgia and michigan. Meanwhile in arizona, the race is even tighter than it was 12 hours ago. Abcs whit johnson has more from phoenix. Some showed up with guns and some people tried to get inside saying they wanted to monitor the ballot counting that was taking place and they were eventually removed by authorities. The secretary of state has said they just want to make sure people are safe, and they dont want to interrupt the ballot counting process. Along with the Sheriffs Department here, they actually put up fencing outside the Recorders Office with a sign that says, free speech zone. We spoke to Barbara Comstock and amanda renteria, former political director for the Clinton Campaign to get their perspectives. I want to start with you, barbara. The president had a stunning News Conference earlier this afternoon in which the president claims that he wins only if legal votes are counted without any evidence of fraud. He also said made allegations of illegal voting in nevada. I want to get your reaction on the president s claims. Well, it was reprehensible, and it not only was graceless, you know, sore loser or anticipating being a loser, it is dangerous to our election integrity, and im part of a group called the National Council on election integrity, and i would like to just read a little bit of their statement that they put out tonight in response to it. Its, quote, the president spent 15 minutes this evening using the podium of the white house to make false claims that undermine the integrity of our elections. Thats from 40 people, including people like dan coates who was part of his administration, madelyn albright, and democrats and republicans. It was appalling, as well as the behavior of his sons going out and threatening members of congress for not, you know, coming out and agreeing with them. And amanda, after four years of President Trump, pretty confident that we can say that hes known as this bare knuckle cage fighter when he wants to push back and fight back. So how can democrats combat this as the president challenges this in court, goes on camera, makes baseless accusations that he cannot back up with evidence . You know, i think its important to do what biden is doing right now, showing the difference between his leadership and trumps leadership, but i also think its really important to go around and hold republicans accountable, and perhaps it will spark a conversation where you will see democrats and republicans beginning to Work Together in what will hopefully be a new administration that actually credits public servants, brings back credibility to the institutions that had long served us and really puts back into place some normalcy and decency and respect in our systems. I think we are seeing the numbers in pennsylvania certainly swing towards biden, and when you look at all the outstanding data, it looks very, very good for the biden team. Theyve said that from the very beginning. Georgias going to be tight, incredibly tight, but the fact that its even tight is saying something about the work thats been happening. I think by the end of tonight, tomorrow morning, pennsylvania is going to go for joe biden. Georgia looks, you know, will swing to biden also, and even in arizona while it might be closer, i think it will continue to be for biden, and we will have to wrap this up and people will have to grow up and accept elections. Lets skip right to it. We see that these Record Number of vote tallies have come in. Vice president former Vice President joe biden has like 73 Million People who voted for him at this point, the president , 69 million. I think we asked you last night and were going to ask you again, when you see numbers like this, your thoughts . Well, i think theres a positive, and theres a negative. The positive is it shows the vitality of our democratic system. People got engaged. They went to the polls. Maybe they didnt literally go to the polls, but they sent their ballots in. They registered their choice. Thats good in a democracy. We want to be involved. Thats the good news. The bad news is these results show that we are a very, very divided nation, and you couldnt have a more pronounced difference between candidates than donald trump and joe biden so, again, theres a huge challenge for the next president of the United States in uniting our nation. And the followup to that i want to ask quickly is that you have that many people who voted, but you still had also, what, nearly 100 million eligible voters who did not vote. Yes, we had a lot of people but i guess, half glass full, half glass empty if you look at it that way. But your thoughts on those who did not exercise their right. Well, you know, the good going back to the good news, this is the highest percentage of registered voters that weve seen to the polls in over a hundred years, but its hard to believe that people wouldnt show up given all thats at stake. You know, you hear invariably every four years, this is the most important election of your lifetime, but a broken clock is right twice a day, and i think this truly is an enormously consequential election, so they missed out because you could see with these tallies how important every vote is. They can change the nation. Literally that one vote can make a difference, and were seeing that in the states that are registering their tallies now. And, mark, on that note, one of those states is georgia, which hasnt gone blue since 1992. It is a reliably red state that is poised right now to go to joe biden. What factors do you think contributed to that shift . Well, i think partly, mona, its demographic shifts, but i think partly its the message of joe biden. I think joe biden was a very compelling candidate in marked contrast to donald trump, but if you see the demographic makeup of georgia, it has changed even in four years, and i think that has made just a minor difference, but you can see in those tallies, its just a little bit thats going to tip the state for one candidate or another. And if hes wrong then the American People will be able to make the judgment about this election that the results have been fair, and this kind of thing, all it does is inflame without informing. I think actually you have a contrast on a split screen, Vice President joe biden talked like a leader, donald trump talked like a loser, and the American People saw it for themselves. There are concerns that the campaign has, and in all of these legal challenges, which were now sort of entering the legal phase of this, even though the counting is still ongoing is theres the legal fight, and theres the pr fight, and sometimes when youre doing it, youre winning the pr fight and losing the legal fight or vice versa.
