Firefighters worked to stop these fires quickly before they could reach homes and other buildings. Because of the dangerous fire conditions pg e cut off power to more than 106,000 people across the bay area. People in the north bay were some of the first to go dark. Lauren martinez is live in mill valley. Here in mill valley you can see some degree in the strebris. Restaurant owners at tips roadside in kenwood were angry after they lost power an hour before they were told it was scheduled to be shut off. They hope they dont lose whats on ice in their freezer. A couple weeks ago, we lost all the food in there. It was probably 15,000, 20,000. Everything is so much harder now because of covid, fires, Power Outages. Its just you know, everybody is saying i cant wait for 2020 to be over. Hopefully, you know, 21 will be much better. At one point 24,000 customers were affect ted here in Sonoma County. But over there, the whole foods is lit up really standing out with all of its lights on. They tell me they have two generators keeping them with power this morning. Really going to extreme measures to stay in business today. Firefighters say they are ready in the event that this wind does spark any fires. They have crews and they have gear on stand by ready to go, including two helicopters based at buchanan field. They can be up within minutes if the weather is cooperating, of course. It depends on how close the fire and water source are together, but with the helicopter, especially a light helicopter like this, you like to have a close water source. So you can make a lot of drops. Something to keep in mind if youre heading out this morning, it is so dark. A lot of Traffic Signals are not working. Approach those intersections carefully, treat them as fourway stops. Dont assume its normal out here. Its not. Its dark, its windy and its cold. Check on your neighbors. If you have power, others may not. These businesses dont have power. So just keep in mind, a neighbor might need you today. They might need a cup of coffee or a charge for their iphone. The Sf Marin Food Bank is putting out an urgent call for volunteers and donations because theyre so low in supplies for the holidays. Of course the pandemic is making things worse. According to the marin ij, the food bank has 60 open slots for volunteers at the san rafael warehouse and 38 slots to work at six popup pantries in the county. They especially need help during the weekdays. Officials say the Sf Marin Food Bank is serving about 60,000 households every week and that is nearly double the number it was helping before covid19. New at 6 00, with the winter months pretty much around the corner, restaurants are trying to figure out how they can have people dine outside in cold weather areas. Restaurants are thinking ahead. Some owners in colorado are building enclosed patios, putting in heat lamps because snow has already arrived. You dont really want to be snowed on when youre ordering a lovely entry dish.
