In the east bay where residents have been told they should be thinking about evacuating because of the fire danger. We start with the meteorologist monitoring those winds and they are picking up. They are. I want to show you current winds. They are strongest through parts of north bay. Napa gusting to 35 Miles Per Hour. Fair field 38 Miles Per Hour. We see strong gusts in the east bay. Oakland and hayward and concord. Over 35 Miles Per Hour. If we go to the Higher Elevation its stronger than that. Check out mount hood. Gusts up to 60 Miles Per Hour. These are the drying northeast winds. The wind advisory in effect until tomorrow. At 11 00. Gusts up to 70 Miles Per Hour. In some of the Higher Elevations. Watch out for the possible down trees and of course the Power Outages. Peek winds will be hitting over the next couple hours. Sounds good. Thank you. The high winds have forced pg e to shut off power to 631,000 customers across northern california. This event is by the far the largest we have experienced this year. The most extreme weather. Were entering a significant risk period. Were doing everything we can to reduce the risk of wild fire. All of that means turning off the pour. Pg e predicts 106,000 customers in the bay area will lose power by the time the process is pleat. Expected in an hour or so. They have posted this map on the web site. You can see each of the purple triangles marks a location of a Public Safety power shut off. The north bay was the first where it was cut tonight. At 3 00 boom power went out an hour before it was supposed to. It was really disappointing. We needed that time. I dont know if they saw winds coming early. And they chose to shut down. It was frustrating. There are dirty dishes in the dark because when the power went out so did any use of well water. Those from pg e say that of the more than 24 how outages, around 1,400 are due to weather. And likely high winds that caused an early outage. They are now just hoping they dont lose whats on ice in the freezing. A couple weeks ago we lost all the food in there. It was probably over 15, 20,000. Many residents have generators and are using them to power refrigerators. Many are growing frustrated over another shut off. Its getting awful tiring. Going through this. Its getting awful tiring and i have lived here all my life i havent seen anything like this. In the last three years. Everything is just so much harder right now because of the covid19. And fires. Police were trying to pull over a driver for traffic violation. He took police on a chase and escaped by running from his car. Two officers in uniform then returned to the area in an unmarked car to search for him and say an unrelated car pulled up behind them. Officers say they fired after the driver pointed a gun in their direction. A neighbor said had saw the man after he was shot. I saw the police. There was a guy on the ground with a gun in his hand and the police were telling him get your hands up. Police tell us the man who was shot was noft the original suspect.
