However our critical fire conditions thankfully are a bit slower to develop. So theres some good news to start the day with. We still have historically low fuels. That means the vegetation is drier than average at historic levels. So the fire danger is still high. Thats why we have the red flag warning until 8 00 tomorrow. Lets look at the winds. They are fairly light, up to 40 in diablo, 22 as you head over to the north bay mountains. Humidity level is lower than yesterday. Still around 25 . Lets talk about whats going to happen this afternoon. 68 at the coast, look at that southerly surge of cloud cover. That will make a dent in our warm weather. Thats tomorrow. 70s around the bay. 80s inland today. Reggie . Happening today, forced blackouts for thousands of pg e customers in california. The utility is cutting the power because of the wildfire about 4 d,200 customers could le power in mine bay counties. Thats fewer than we thought earlier this week. The bulk of the outages are in napa county. Thats where we find Amy Hollyfield. Shes in calistoga. The lights are on right now, but pg e is forecasting that there will be Power Outages here today and residents are very prepared. Pg e has put out the warning to calistoga that the power might be shut off this morning to try to prevent wildfires from starting. Residents here filled up gas cans so they could power their generators so they could try and keep their lights on. One restaurant is determined to keep running even without power. The owner of local q 707 restaurant has generatorers and a tent to set up outside so they can keep cooking food for their customers. Since the fires, basically since the 28th, weve pretty much only worked two days a week because they keep turning off the power. Its unfortunate not to have a full paycheck for a full week period. Thats why were doing the best we can to keep it open. Residents tell us they understand the need to be proactive against the start of wildfires, but they say its tough dealing with these blackouts. The utility cut electricity because of the high fire danger. So this is the latest look at pg es website to tell you where power has been cut. Abc7 News Reporter Amy Hollyfield is live in calistoga with whats going on there. Pg e put out a warning to all of napa county and this calistoga area that the power might be going off in some areas. We are here in calistoga, looks good so far. The lights are on. People here are ready. They are very good at this now. Theyre very experienced at these power shutoffs. Most people now have generators and many made a trip to the gas station yesterday to fill up their cans so they could possibly keep those lights on, keep those generators powering their homes if needed. As much as they appreciate having power, there is a side effect to using these generators that people say is tough to get used to. Jegenerators are very loud a they smell bad. What wears you down is the sound. My generator, we can only run a 50foot cord off of it. So we put it between the two houses that we run, and it just drives you nuts. Thats all you hear. One restaurant is hoping generators will keep them in business when the lights go out. Qlocal 707 has generators and a tent so they can set up outside and keep cooking. Let me show you the extreme winds that are coming this weekend. We start off sunday morning, pretty quiet. We have a sea breeze out there about 10, 15 miles per hour. It will start off cloudy and cool. Another dry cold front rolls through. Look at the winds increase from the north bay and spread southward, especially sunday night into monday morning. Gusts in oakland and calistoga reaching 50 miles per hour. This is the most aggressive of our medium range models. That is very concerning. You can see it stays that way this afternoon and early evening hours and tapers into tuesday. While the events have been in the higher elevation, this could touch all of our neighborhoods. Reggie . Mike, thank you. Breaking news. Surprising numbers from the u. S. Labor Department Just released the weekle lesly jobless claim reports. Jobina has a look at the numbers. New unemployment claims are high but much lower than economist projections. 787,000 new jobless claims were filed last week, much lower than the 870,000 claims that were forecasted. It is the lowest level since march before the coronavirus pandemic shut down much of the country. In addition, the Labor Department reports nearly 8. 4 million continuing claims, thats down about 1 million from last week. We will see how wall Street Investors respond to this when the markets open up in about 45 minutes. Thanks. California theme parks like disneyland, universal studios, Knotts Berry Farm are considering suing the state of california over what they call unachievable reopening guidelines. The closures are also hitting Small Business which are located near these parks. Sidewalks outside of disneyland have not seen the big crowds since march when california ordered them to close. The owner of a nearby subway shop watched his sales plummet from 3,000 a day to 300 a day. Without disneyland there, we have no reason to put this business here. I wouldnt have put it in here. The Walt Disney Company owns disneyland and abc7. Theme park owners say they want to work with the state on reopening but right now all options are still on the table. Here in the bay area, californias Great America is asking customers to put pressure on the governor to let it reopen. It says it drafted a letter with the california attractions and parks association, the Amusement Park sent an email urging supporters to sign it. In the east bay, Alameda County is taking a step forward in getting back to business tomorrow because its easing a lot of restrictions. Restaurants will be able to do Indoor Service at 25 capacity or fewer than 100 people.
