It is 0 contained. 600 homes are under mandatory evacuation orders. An statement 1,500 people were included in that order. Drew, these look like pretty dangerous conditions for firefighters here. Were tracking the gusty offshore winds. Were not even halfway through our red flag warning. We have a bust of winds coming in overnight tonight. Current conditions in the glass fire, hot and dry. We were advertising this would happen today with this weather pattern. Winds out of the north gusting right now around 13 Miles Per Hour in the vicinity of the glass fire. But well take you a little bit higher into our hills. The winds right now, you see st. We do expect the winds to again pick up in the north bay and continue overnight into early monday morning. We are watching about an eighthour window from 10 00 p. M. Tonight through 6 00 a. M. Tomorrow morning for those strong winds, especially in the north bay. We still have that red flag warning still in effect for the north bay, the east bay hills, and the inland east bay until 9 00 p. M. Tomorrow evening. Well talk more about the fire and our heat wave continues tomorrow and the temperatures in a few minutes, guys. Thank you very much. We have Team Coverage on this fire starting with abc News Reporter Cornell Barnard whos been in the north bay all day. Cornell . Eric, things are changing by the hour on this fire, which continues to grow in size. Check it out. This is the road block here at silverado trail and deer park road. Folks cannot travel any further than this location. Just to the north you see a giant plume of smoke just over that ridge. Hundreds forced from their homes early this morning. Many say theyre feeling lucky to be alive tonight. The fire was ferocious, exploding in size within hours, burning through the hills of wine country northeast of st. Helena. By sunrise, cal fire was attacking the glass fire from all sides as it burned across a ridge. Choppers made countless runs dumping water. We caught the moment a dc10 dumped retard dant on the blaze. Hot temperatures and gusty winds. Fire is so hot at this point, its made it downtown to the silverado trail burning on both sides of the road. We got here about 4 30 and weve been working hard ever since. Hopefully more people come in. He lives in the evacuation zone on north critical springs road. She says there was no time to grab anything. We woke up in the middle of the night and there were flames. We could see flames. We ran to the car and i was in my underwear. I still havent i still havent found my dog. Her jog, zaza, ran away during the chaos. Sadly he was found hours later badly burned, now being treated by a vet. Shes 11 years old with a pretty silver face. Were evacuating our hospital and we are no longer accepting patients until it is safe. 55 patients at the hospital were moved by ambulance to other facilities as the fire got closer. Some were air lifted out by chopper. Deja vu for evacuees who left for the lmu fire weeks ago. It gets pretty tiring. It seems like its turning into a lifestyle. Yeah. She says thats a lifestyle shes not interested anymore when it comes to dealing with wildfires. Se says shes ready to move out of the area, too stressful. Cal fire told me just a few minutes ago theyre fighting high winds, hot temperatures, and, yes, it is hot and it has been extremely windy. The good news is some refersmenrefers reinforcements just came from San Bernardino county to help fight this fire. Live in st. Helena, Cornell Barnard, abc7 news. What an uphill battle. Cornell, many thanks to you. Our Team Coverage continues with abc7 reporter luz pena with more on the evacuation cornell just mentioned. Luz, how frightening has it been of a day for these people . Dion, were close to the fire. That image is surreal. Its incredible to think many residents in this area woke up to the sight of flames outside of their windows. I want to point to st. Helena hospital. You see the fire engines getting ready to go up the hill. Many of the patients inside were evacuated earlier today, 55 patients. I want to show you whats happening here at the hospital. The strategy is theyre watering the roof of the hospital as they gear up for those fire engines to go up the hill. I want to point to the hillside here, deer park and silverado road up the hill. We spoke to residents who said they are going to evacuate, theyre packing up. We spoke to a 22yearold carlo who says hes lived here his entire life and with tears in his eyes, he said hes hot ready to see his Community Just burn down. Hes hoping for the best. When you see your home, what do you think . Its just home. Its home. Its comfortable, its peaceful. Full of the people i love and the experiences ive had since i was a kid. We found videos and all kinds of stuff happened here. I could spend forever but its best we keep it short for safety. Back here live, you can see the hazy sky and the orange glare over this ridge. We heard from several residents that the sound of these helicopters just flying over their homes gives them some sort of comfort knowing theyre getting the resources to be able to fight the flames. A month ago they experienced the same thing and sadly enough theyre getting used to being in these type of situations so close to the fire in this community. But theyre telling us that this is different, that this fire is closer than a month ago. But theyre staying put. Some of them telling us down the hill we spoke to a family who says theyre not going to evacuate. Theyre going to wait for firefighters to get closer to that area and tell them when is it right time for them to leave. Theyre saying that this is what they signed up for by living in this community. They are obviously aware of the situation and hoping for the best. They are feeling some sort of comfort knowing that there are resources up in the sky and on the ground. Theyre obviously in their favor. Live, luz pena, abc7 news. Thank you very much. Conditions continue there. This video shows how close the fire is burning to napa vineyards. Theres a large evacuation zone in and around the fire. J. R. Is with us. Eric, its one thing to have to leave your home and go to an evacuation center, its another to do so in these extremely hot temperatures like they are today. Were talking triple digits. According to my car gage a while ago, 107 degrees, one of the reasons why so many people are inside of their cars out here blasting that air conditioning. There have been some close calls among these evacuees. I talked to a friend and he says, oh, the fire is all the way across the canyon, no big deal and youll get home fine. I saw the fire coming through the canyon almost hit me. She is okay. But emergency crews tell us that at least 100 people are here at the Crosswalk Community church in napa. 6,000 in evacuation zones. There were more earlier, but some were able to get hotel rooms here. I was inside this facility and the main room where i was did not have air conditioning. Its been over 100 for most of the day. They had the doors open and the breeze could come through, but still very hot. Others, as i said, are in their cars. Sandra brown and her family have covered the windows with clothes and kept the vehicles on so that air conditioning helps them in these tripledigit temperatures. They left their homes in when it was still dark out. Thank god were alive. I never had this happen. We had fires before, but usually were prepared. They let us know to evacuate. But this time, its the middle of the night when youre asleep, you know. We could have like paradise waking up and driving through god knows what. Back out here live, again, you dont see many people in this parking lot. That is because, as ive said over and over again, tripledigit temperatures out here. It is extremely hot. Some of these folks in those cars to get air conditioning and some of those folks tell me they were still waiting for a hotel room this evening. Some of the hotel rooms were rushing to get some of these rooms ready for additional customers. Reporting live in napa county, j. R. Stone, abc7 news. We hope they have a place to stay very soon. J.
