A longtime adviser and ally to the president , stone was found guilty of lying to congress, witness tampering and obstructing the house investigation into russian meddling in the 2016 election. He was sentenced to 40 months in prison, a sentence attorney general william barr called fair. But the president has repeatedly claimed stone was treated unfairly. The white house calling him a victim of the, quote, russia hoax. Democrats quickly condemn this saying it undermines the rule of law. The move came as the president wrapped up a trip to florida.
