For more on the coronavirus concerns lets bring in our Infectious Disease expert, todd ellerin. Dr. Ellerin, good morning. Thank you for joining us. I want to ask about the president s rally in tulsa. The crowd wasnt as large as advertised. You have thousands of people indoors, shoulder to shoulder, many not Wearing Masks. From a Public Health standpoint whats your biggest concern now that the rally is over and people start heading home . Good morning, whit. This is a real problem. I mean, the cdc places this event in the highest risk category. You have crowds, indoors, no physical distancing, not Wearing Masks and in a state on the rise with cases, even though the absolute number is still small. This is a real setup for the potential for tulsa to be a hot zone in the near future. We want to prevent that. So i think its important to follow their local Public Health guidance and maybe try testing in about four days. Most of the people that are there. We mentioned tulsa, oklahoma, but theyre not alone. Were seeing alarming increases, especially in southern states, florida, mississippi, north carolina. Some other places as well, and younger people are getting sick too. What takeaway should we have from those numbers that were seeing . First of all, theresnitely. So if you are in one state where you have poor control or not a great handle on the virus, and you go into another state where theres better handle, you know, you have the ability to destabilize. We also think there are super spreaders. Only 10 to 20 of people infected cause about 80 of infections. Those are super spreaders. As far as younger patients, the good thing is they dont get as sick and not as likely to get hospitalized. But remember, young patients have chronic conditions as well, and they can be severely ill and sometimes even die from covid19. The other point to remember is they can act like a vessel, and they can transmit the virus to someone who is more vulnerable, eld elderly, et cetera. Were still learning more about this virus every day. Dr. Ellerin, thank you for your time. We appreciate it. Dan, over to you. Whit, thu very we turn betwe white house a ping a tense 24 hours. Abcs trevor ault is on the story. Trevor, good morning to you. Reporter good morning, dan. His office has also conducted several investigations into members of the president s inner circle. Some of those investigations are still ongoing, but berman is now out of a job. This morning a department of justice standoff ending with a very public firing. U. S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman arrived at his Manhattan Office saturday for what turned out to be his final shift. Im just here to do my job. Reporter berman agreed to leave Effective Immediately after a 24hour showdown with attorney general w at rseons o eage in crinal conduct ose that d a u. S. Attorney for the Southern District of new york, berman led an office that put President Trumps former personal attorney, michael cohen, in prison and began investigating his current lawyer, rudy giuliani. In a letter to berman saturday attorney general barr said he asked President Trump to remove you as of today and he has done so. The president denied he was involved. Thats up to the attorney general. Attorney general barr is working on that. Thats really up to him. Im not involved. Reporter sources told abc news the president has been pushing for bermans removal for months. Attorney general barr tried to force a change late friday issuing a news release that said berman would step down by july 3rd and a favored replacement would succeed him. Within an hour berman issued his own statement that said, i have not resigned. I have no intention of resigning. The House Judiciary Committee is investigating and invited berman to testify. President trump is nominated jay clayton who served as chairman of the fcc, but has never been a prosecutor. Before Geoffrey Berman took his position here he donated 5,400 to the Trump Campaign in 2016 and served on the trump transition team. Hes been invited to testify at a House Judiciary Committee hearing as early as wednesday. Eva . We will all be watching for that. Thank you, trevor. Now to the president s battle over john boltons book. A federal judge blocking the attempt to block it on National Security grounds. In an interview with Abcs Martha Raddatz bolton says this wasnt really about National Security. The president isnt worried about foreign governments reading this book. Hes worried about the American People reading this book. Still the judge admonished bolton for disclosing classified information without obtaining final government approval after a security review. President trump seizing on that on twitter saying, bolton broke the law and has been called out and rebuked for doing so with a really big price to pay. Marthas full exclusive interview with john bolton is airing in a onehour special tonight at 9 00 p. M. Eastern right here on abc. A lot of people will be watching. Indeed. So much to talk about this morning. Lets bring in our chief White House Correspondent jon karl who is author of a new book himself. The book is called front row at the trump show. Ive read it. Its great. So jon, lets get right to the news this morning. First, you cover the white house. You have done so for years. What are you hearing about how the president is responding to the smaller than expected crowd in tulsa overnight . Reporter dan, you have to consider they were saying there were 1 Million People that requested tickets. You heard in rachels piece the president saying there wouldnt be an empty seat in the house. Im told the president is livid. I asked one of his Campaign Advisers on a scale of one to ten how mad is the president. The answer i got back, a 15. He is furious about this. This was a reboot for his campaign. They hyped the energy. You saw the outside arena had to be shut down and all those empty seats inside. I didnt know they had 15 on the scale. Whats your take on the speech itself . Two hours long. Lots in there. What did you take away from it . Reporter it had all of the many greatest hits from your typical rally speech. What i thought was interesting is that there was absolutely no mention of juneteenth. There was no mention of george floyd. There was no mention of the tulsa massacre of 1921 which happened just a couple of blocks away from that venue, but he did go on and on about 15 minutes worth talking about that strange walk down the ramp he had at west point. So it was in that sense, a rather unusual speech. Let me talk about the controversy over the fired prosecutor from manhattan. Is this inside the belt way mishegas to use a little yiddish on a sunday morning or is this truly consequential . Reporter well, look. I think it could have been much more consequential than it ended up being. The president , his attorney general acting to remove the prosecutor who was investigating the president s personal attorney, and also a prosecutor that john bolton suggests that the president had promised to remove to turkeys president erdogan. So seemingly at least in appearance, but because berman refused to go at first, his deputy will be taking over, audrey strauss, and she vowed to continue the investigations. Well see where it goes. It was at least by appearances an extremely consequential series of actions. Jon, great to see you on a sunday morning. Appreciate your analysis. I want to remind everybody, jon will be hosting this week later this morning. Hes going to go oneonone with senator tim scott and congressman hakeem jeffries. Theyll be talking about Police Reform efforts in congress. Plus, the powerhouse round table breaks down President Trumps rally and the firing of the u. S. Attorney. Thats going to persist through the rest of the week. Low levels of humidity, never a good thing, down below 10 . The heat builds from west texas to california. Excessive heat watches monday through thursday across sacramento. Temperatures over 100 degrees. Good morning, the fog will clear in the next hour for a sunny afternoon. Elsewhere the fog is clearing closer to home. We have a warm day inland looking at hotinland throughout the work week.
