Let me show you this video, after two hours waiting for the crowd to grow protesters began to move to Market Street while chanting no justice, no peace and, quote, say his name, george floyd. With Police Officers following protests with motorcycles and blocking side streets. In this next video we can see how protesters began to turn from peaceful to violent when officers were getting in their vehicle away from this crowd when at one point we can see an officer pointing a nonlethal weapon to the crowd as they drive away, a protester comes out of nowhere from the side of the frame and throws an object that looks like a rock, breaking the back window of this police patrol. Now, around 4 00 p. M. The crowd made their way to harrison street just blocks away from the entrance of the bay bridge where Police Officers were waiting for them in a line blocking the entrance to the freeway. Thats where we got several videos from viewers stuck in their cars as they saw protesters vandalizing the google shine while shouting chants like say his name, george floyd. Now, what were seeing right now through sky 7 is a crowd moving through fifth and harrison, initially they were headed towards the offramp of the bay bridge but a line of those San FranciscoPolice Officers was blocking them from getting on the freeway. A familyowned pharmacy and a Cricket Phone store are among the line of businesses looted and vandalized last night in chinatown. Oakland police have released a preliminary informational report about other incidents at last nights demonstrations. To the numbers here, 60 looters were detained for further investigation, 18 people were arrested by Oakland Police, four people arrested by outside agencies, six oakland officers were injured, seven officers from outside agencies were injured. The damage is extensive and remarkable. We came from a News Conference with mayor libby schaaf she said 70 local businesses were targeted and damaged and she says the violence must stop. Im very saddened and sickened to talk about the events of last night. Reporter mayor libby staff stood alongside oakland Business Owners appealing for calm and denouncing violence friday night. We are sickened to wake up this morning to the destruction and the violence of our beloved oakland. And we want to make clear that this will not be tolerated. Reporter a sea of shattered glass covers much of downtown oakland. The cleanup almost overwhelming, businesses big and small were targeted by vandals. The demonstration began peacefully on friday to protest the death of george floyd while in Police Custody in minneapolis. But it quickly changed. Fires were set and windows smashed. Vandals set fire to a car inside the showroom at Mercedes Benz of oakland. The Service Manager says seven cars heavily damaged. Were already struggling with all the coronavirus thats going on, you know, the business doesnt need this. Reporter windows were smashed at this walgreens store, looters rushed in to grab what they could. The chase bank across the street had its windows smashed along with dozens of other storefronts. Check out this target store on broadway, it was trashed. Suspected looters were still inside on saturday morning until police arrived. To me its sickening. Its sad. All these cops not racist cops, you know, weve got a lot of racism, were going to live with it the rest of our lives, but, come on, man, enough is enough. The Golden State Warriors with their deep ties to oakland also released this Statement Today saying we condemn in no Uncertain Terms racism and violence perpetrated against members of the black community and we call on all people to channel their justifiable anger into creating a more just and equitable society. The deadly shooting of a federal Police Officer in oakland is being called an act of domestic terrorism and were learning new information about the investigation into whether its related to last nights protests. Reporter eric, senior dhs official told abc news that the shooting involving two federal protective Service Officers and the overnight protests are related, but the investigation is still in its preliminary stages. The fbi says one federal officer was shot and killed, the other was injured. Now, this happened at the Federal Building off clay street in oakland around 9 45 last night. The fbi says that a car pulled up to the building and started iring at the Contract Security officers. Now, today in washington the department of Homeland Security said this is an act of domestic terrorism. Let me be clear. When someone targets a Police Officer or a Police Station with an intention to do harm and intimidate, that is an act of domestic terrorism. Its likely that there was a targeting of uniformed officers to the extent with which they were involved with our demonstration were really not sure. Now, federal protective Service Officers usually protect Federal Buildings so oftentimes you will see them in front of court houses and government buildings. Several people were taken into custody in downtown san jose. The demonstration started out peaceful but some people on the freeway as you can see here had their windows smashed. He said, quote, despite peaceful intentions of most protesters, a few seek violence and destruction of our city. Mayor sam liccardo joined volunteers cleaning up graffiti today. They were at Horace Mann Elementary School on santa clara street. Some volunteers were out as early as 5 00 a. M.
