Best into the north bay and Santa Cruz Mountains and we see a little scattered activity between napa and heading over towards santa rosa. Heavier rain and better radar returns up around cloverdale and more just off the coast. That is going to move in. And thats going to mix with a little bit of fog up there and definitely our most interesting weather across the north way so far this morning. Heres a look at the exploratorium camera looking back to the west over mostly cloudy San Francisco where mist is hanging in the air. The Cal State University system is preparing to continue online classes for fall semester. Abc7 News Reporter Julian Glover is live with what the chancellor said about this this morning on gma. Julian. What a big announcement that was earlier this week when cal state chancellor timothy p. White made the announcement that the University System would still be primarily online only classes for the fall semester. He said the main reason is anticipation of a potential second outbreak of the coronavirus that could halt inperson instruction. As you mentioned moments ago, chancellor white appeared on gma and discussed what the University System is actively doing to ensuresaty its nearly Million Students across 23 campuses. While most instruction will be online, he said there will be few exceptions for things like clinical classes in the Nursing Program. He also assured there would be rig erous health and safetyus hy place. It will be different, but very good. Our faculty will be training over the summer to create a very robust and enriched learning environment in ways people have not seen before. Along with the necessary academic support and student support. Were not closed. Our classes are not canceled. Its really about a change of venue from the physical space to the virtual space. We are not closed, we are not canceled as far as classes are concerned. A very Important Message there. Now, cal state was the first major University System across the country to make the announcement they will be going all in on primarily virtual classes for the fall semester. Its unclear how students will be reacting to this if some of them will be canceling their fall semester plans. And how this will be affecting the bottom line of the very large University System. 23 campuses here in california. Reporting live this morning, Julian Glover, abc7 news. All right, thank you, julian. Local cases of coronavirus have, unfortunately, reached a grim milestone. There are now over 10,000 confirmed cases in the bay area and santa cruz county. This Morning Police and firefighters will thank Health Care Workers during a shift change at kaiser permanente. Santa clara county will hold a Committee Meeting today to discuss expanding coronavirus testing. The goal is to test 4,000 people every day. Also today, governor gavin newsom will release his revised state Budget Proposal to balance a 54 billion shortfall by the pandemic. San francisco have a 1. 7 billion deficit caused by the impacts of the pandemic. Mayor london breed announced yesterday the city will make budget cuts and reduce spending across all departments. For 2020, the city has to close a 250 million shortfall. But, if economic recovery from the pandemic is delayed because of continued community exposure, that projected deficit could grow. Now, an abc7 news live desk update. At the live desk, although many of us have known this, a new study this morning is confirming that people of color are disproportionately working essential front line jobs across the bay area during this pandemic. The study was conducted by the bay area equity atlas and they found that essential jobs like Grocery Store employees, farm workers, janitors and public driv driver. The report says 58 of bay area workers are people of color. But account for 66 of essential workfor workforce. Latinos account for 31 . While black workers represent 6 of essential jobs. They account for 23 of Public Transit workers. The report authors want employers and the government to do more to protect essential employees. Back to you guys. All right, thank you, jobina. New at 6 00, the cdc is preparing to issue a new warning to pediatricians over mystery inflammatory syndrome that is linked to coronavirus. Cases have bte in at least 16 states now. In new york state about 100 kids affected by it and three of them have died. The cdc will issue a warning to the Public Health system and clinicians and Health Care Providers across the country so they can be on the look out for it. Symptoms include rash, fever, stomach illness and red eyes. And the doctors say it is affecting healthy kids. What message do you have right now . They are the best advocate for their children and if they suspect something wrong, pursue it. Despite the rise in cases in the last two weeks and the best thing parents can do is just watch out for those symptoms. A San Francisco church is now filing a lawsuit against zoom because of a zoom bombing incident that happened during a bible study class. A st. Paul lutheran children administrator said zoom was negligent in preventing a hacker from hijacking their meeting. It says when the student tried to terminate the session and restart the class, the hacker just did it again and they had to close out the class. Parts of the bay area will soon be moving into the beginning part of the states shelterinplace order. San Francisco Mayor london breed announced the city will formally enter phase two on monday and that will allow for all street side businesses to open for delivery and Curbside Pickup. Warehouses can open with modifications. 95 of businesses will now be able to reopen, even if it is just partially. Goodern moi morning, everyone. Following a devastating situation in the south bay. All lanes are shut down on 85 in san jose due to a deadly crash. I want to take you to the map so you can see the area. The purple line on the map shows that all lanes are shut down, according to the chp. Lanes wont reopen until at least around 8 00 a. M. Southbound 85 past cottle road is the exact location. Four people died because of this crash. Te driver, they believe, they have been under the influence and he was arrested that scene. He was the only person driving that was involved here and crashed into the Center Divide and six people inside the vehicle. Three died at the scene and another person died at the hospital and really awful situation there. A new study finds that coronavirus could linger in the air, get this, for at least eight minutes after talking. Researchers say they found that talking loudly for one minute in a confined space could generate at least 1,000 speech droplets and they say if somebody were to am inhale the droplets, it could potentially trigger new infections. We are tracking a new study at the live desk this morning involving a coronavirus test that is used at the white house. Researchers say the tests may be missing many positive cases. The test is called abbott id now and show results in just 13 minutes. New York University researchers say the tests can be, quote, unacceptable for patients to use. They looked at nasal swabs from 101 patients and heres what they found. A separate diagnostic test showed 31 of those patients had covid19. But 48 of them had tested negative with the abbott test.
