Reporter his grandmother is a patient here. She doesnt have the virus but is in isolation. While pitino knew about one death, he didnt know about five additional ones until we broke that news wednesday. Its hard. I want to know who the hells running the place over here because no ones told us. Reporter 35 patients tested positive for covid. 6 of those patients were the ones who died. Gat lupes wife is a employee of the facility who tested positive for the virus. Shes okay, been in quarantine for a week. But her boss is already talking about a return that he says is not going topp why the boss told to come back to work. No way. Reporter neighbors say they knew something wasnt right and are now doing their best to stay healthy. God help us, man. Reporter while 53 people from the facility are now battling covid19, pitinos mom is Holding Strong covidfree. Its a trying time because my grandmother is up in age. Shes doing well. She doesnt have a fever, just regular aches and pains an 85yearold would have. I did reach out to management to get their side of the story but i have yet to hear back from them. In hayward, j. R. Stone, abc 7 news. Meanwhile another resident and two more Staff Members have tested positive for covid19. That means at least five residents and 11 staffers now have the virus. Another staff member at orinda care has tested positive as well. There are now 23 staff and 27 residents infected for a total of 50 cases at that fa icility. And an additional staffer at laguna hospital. More than 14,000 people have died in the United States and there are more than 432,000 cases. In new york, the hardest hit state, officials tonight report the highest number of coronavirusrelated deaths in a single day with 779. The bad news isnt just bad. The bad news is actually terrible. In california, more than 500 people have now died. Tuesday to wednesday was one of the deadliest periods in the state so far and San Franciscos mayor is cautioning people not to get complacent. S as you can see, those numbers are still going up. And we anticipate that they would be even higher, and the worst is yet to come. President trump meanwhile is looking forward, taking an optimistic tone. Getting closer, you see the numbers getting much closer to getting our country back to the way it was. And two major headlines tonight affecting workers on the front lines of this crisis. The cdc announced new guidance that attempts to get workers back on the job faster after being exposed. If a worker is symptom free, they can come back before 14 days. What cdc has done is looked at the essential work force and how to maintain that work force particularly at this time as we begin to get ready to reopen and have confidence in bringing our work forces back to work. The cdc director says employees should take their temperature before they go to work, wear a face mask at all times, social distance at work, and go home if theyre sick. The Strategic National stock pile is almost out of n95 masks, surgical masks, gowns, and other supplies. The House Oversight committee has released documents says 90 of the stock pile has been distributed to state and local governments. The remaining 10 is being held in reserve for federal workers. This allows states to come up with their own means of equipment. Governor newsom pledged a billion dollars to buy 200 Million Masks a month. People with stock pile are asked to report to Santa Clara County under new order by the health department. County officials have a good supply now but are preparing for a supply shortage ahead. Getting this awareness will let us know what we can source here locally so were not as reliant on scarce state and federal supplies. Anyone with a ventilator or a certain number of ppe including gloves, n95 masks, and surgical masks is asked to respond. An update now on coronavirus numbers for the bay area which includes santa cruz county. In the last few hours sonoma reported increase in cases, 16 more than yesterday. The county says 52 of those infected have recovered. Alameda reports 40 more cases from yesterday now at 674. Three more people died in Santa Clara County where there have been a total of 46 deaths and 1,380 cases. Farther north, today lake county reported its third case and cases are Holding Steady at 4 in mendocino county. Three of those people infected have recovered. Lets get a look at other headlines were following. A warning against price gouging in marin county. The District Attorney says shes getting complaints about it and violators could do time. A judge in the ghost ship case decided to release erik alameda. And dont expect sports back in Santa Clara County until late november at the earliest. Thats according to the county executive officer. New york a state with a population half that of california has faired much worse than the pandemic. Area of low pressure spinning off the Southern California coast. Same storm that soaked us. Getting the rain and snow heading in our direction. Were not going to get all the energy. We will see a few showers out of this as we head into tomorrow. Temperatures right now, theyre comfortable because of the cloud cover in the 50s for most of you. Live look from our camera.
