Sonoma county is reporting five new cases, pushing the total to at least 105. Santa clara county continues to be the hardest hit with more than 1,000. San francisco and san mateo counties are closing in on 500. To the north, mendecino county reports four confirmed cases now. Lake county still reports no positive cases and even further north, humble county is reporting at least 40 positive cases from the virus. The big headline, as you begin your weekend with new shelterinplace guidelines, the cdc is now recommending you wear cloth masks or facial coverings when going outside to wrk orn9c mask, but handmade cloth coverings or ban dandas. N95 and surgical masks must be reserved for Health Care Workers and First Responders. President trump says he will not be wearing a mask. This is voluntary. I dont think im going to be doing it. Is it okay to wear a scarf over my nose and mouth . Yes, absolutely. What were trying to do is cut down on you expelling cough, sneeze, respiratory particles. Thats the goal here, to protect other people from you. The next question is, how should the cloth masks be laundered . Any special instructions . I would wash them in hot water. What would be the best protection if youre going for a run or a bike . I would say youre going to have to experiment. Try a tshirt or Something Like experiment for comfort and fit but also how porous. We tried to spray through different materials from a thick to thin scarf, towel and a thin tshirt. The thinner the material, the online, etsy and amazon, the choices are endless, from fashionable to high tech. This one boasts breathability and filtered technology but dr. Rutherford says keep it simple. Cover your nose and mouth and save the professional stuff for the people who need it. Remember, the masks are just for when you go out, okay . Reporter the county is launching a massive education effort to reach more of the unhoused, soon it will bring on mobile testing stations outside every encampment, an opportunity to screen more people than divert or quarantine as needed. Mayor gavin newsom announced help for the homeless was announced as a top priority. If left unaddressed, we allow our most vulnerable residents in the state of california to be exposed to this virus. Reporter already Santa Clara County has opened a temporary site at the fairgrounds for 60 people. 75 beds at parkside home have been set up. More than 100 trailers from the state were delivered to the south bay and will be used to shelter homeless and unstably housed residents. Additionally, all existing and seasonal shelters remain optional. According to san jose, plans would add 818 beds to the regions shelter capacity. Supervisor cortez says residents in the county should be commended. By and large here in the south bay, people are doing the right thing.
