Good morning, francis. Good morning. We started off with some fog and some low clouds as we check live doppler 7, its quiet out there. No rain in sight. Heres a beautiful view looking out towards the bay. We have that sea breeze and thats going to bring us cooler temperatures once again today. Right now, temperatures are in the 40s and 50s, becoming sunny for most everyone except the coast by lunchtime. This afternoon, inland areas, warming up to upper 60s in the warmest locations. In the bay, low 60s. And at the coast, the sea breeze keeps things in the 50s. Sunset is at 5 56. Tomorrow there are big changes and ill let you know when temperatures will be above average with the forecast. Thank you. One person is dead after a crash on highway 101 in redwood city. This happened around 3 20 this morning. The chp says the 18yearold woman who was driving veered off the road and hit an embankment. The impact killed her female passenger. Officers have not released her age. The chp says alcohol is believed to be involved and the driver will likely face felony dui charges. Also new this morning, two people are recovering in the hospital after being rescued from mile rock beach in San Francisco. The coast guard says they abandoned the boat they were in as it was heading towards the rocks. They got into a life raft and hiked up to an area where firefighters were there waiting to evaluate them. Both are expected to be okay. And this is a remarkable happy ending to a mystery many assumed had ended in death. Even as late as yesterday morning, we were telling you that it was thought that Carol Kiparsky and ian irwin might have been dead. But then came the stunning turn of events. They were found alive. If all goes well, they could be back home by the end of today. The couple vanished. You can see here after renting an airbnb last saturday. Their family last heard from them on last thursday. All of their belongings were left behind. We begin our coverage with how the two were found and how they managed to survive. Reporter a rescue helicopter pulling two missing hikers to safety. 77yearold Carol Kiparsky and her 72yearold husband, ian irwin, found alive in a a a a aa the dense brush. They were like, thank, god, you found us, were so happy. Theyre doing okay. They were suffering from slight hypothermia. Reporter both found wearing light jackets but alive and talking. The couple was found about three to four miles from the house they were renting. They had been missing since valentines day. They left for a hike on valentines day. They got lost in the dark and they dont know what happened after that. The reason they are most likely alive is because they were drinking from a puddle that they found near where they were located. Sheriffs Officials Say ian injured himself in a fall which likely prevented the couple from walking out. Our prayers have been answered. Reporter neighbors had feared the worst, but personnel never gave up trying to find carol and ian. In speaking with a search manager that weve had whos been doing this for 40 years and also speaking with the family, this is a miracle. Reporter a miracle is right. Some of the search say say the brush was so dense they actually had to crawl in. I spoke with the couples son just a short time ago. He says this is the best news ever and is grateful to the rescue teams. And the couple is still in the hospital recovering this morning. Reporter the couples sons feared the worst after rescue missions by land and sea turned into Recovery Efforts for their parents carol and ian. Family and Officials Say it was thanks to the couples background in the outdoors that helped them survive. His mom is a mushroom hunter. My dad with his background, they know how to find things and eat. They were eating some part of a fern. Reporter the couple drank from a puddle for water and had a will to survive. My mother said, i lost a shoe and so i was walking with one shoe. Then i lost the other shoe. And i kept walking in my socks. And then i got tired of walking in my socks, then i was walking bare feet for a while. Reporter recovering at the hospital, this photo was snapped of the couple. Theyre just now sharing stories of how they helped each other. He was laying his body flat into that awful thorny crap so that carol could go over him. Reporter on behalf of the family, theyre grateful for the hundreds of volunteers that went out each day. The person that found them, thank god they found them, but i want to thank the people who didnt, for being out there on their personal time. This is the best possible ending. Moving on, a large side show seen overnight in the streets of San Francisco. We have this brandnew look here at the scene. At least a hundred people gathered near 24th street and dolores. No word on any injuries, arrests or if any cars were towed. We have calls into the Police Department for more details. Now to developing news on the coronavirus. The World Health Organization is making its first visit to wuhan, china, since the outbreak began. There are more than 2,400 deaths worldwide from the virus. A majority of those in china. The death toll in iran jumped to 8 people, the highest outside china. South korea and italy are seeing a rise in the number of confirmed cases and u. S. Officials are warning we could see the virus start to spread here at home. Heres the latest. Reporter this morning, koe have i h covid19 cases surging. Nearly half of the total infections linked to a Single Church group. People are taking this virus seriously and trying to stay in and stay away from large groups. Reporter these americans both teaching english in south korea. They showed abc news the city where nearly have of confirmed infections have been found. Normally these streets are very full, very packed with people. But the government has advised people to stay inside, to wear masks. Reporter at this bus terminal, travelers are scanned with a heat detection camera. But as the fear grows, so is misinformation and disinformation. New reports of conspiracy theories are being spread with false claims that the United States is behind the outbreak. Moscow denies any hand in it. And in america, one court is now temporarily blocking the u. S. Government from sending 50 people infected with covid19 to a facility in california. The hearing is scheduled monday. Reporter overnight, senator Bernie Sanders clinching another victory with a divisive win in the nevada caucuses and already focusing in on the next earlyvoting states. Dont tell anybody, i dont want to get them nervous, we are going to win the democratic primary in texas. Reporter polls show sanders as the top pick for the majority of hispanic and Young Democrats in nevada. Latino voters expected to be the largest Minority Group in 2020 will play a major role in the democratic primary. In nevada, we have just put together a multigenerational, Multiracial Coalition which is going to not only win in nevada, its going toweep this country. Today marks four weeks since the Helicopter Crash that killed kobe bryant, his daughter and seven others. The crash was four weeks ago today and now in just more than 24 hours, more than 20,000 people will gather here to pay tribute to bryant and his daughter gianna. Her mother and kobes widow put so much thought into making sure every detail of this service has special meaning. Its of course being held here at the Staples Center known as the house that kobe built where he spent his entire 20year nba career with the lakers and then of course theres so much symbolism being put around the icons number, 24, as well as giannas jersey number two. The ticket prices range from 24. 02. And then the date of this service, february 24th, 2 24, carrying that significance as well. And officials in l. A. Are issuing a request to fans who want to attend. Last right. Theyre telling the people who werent among those to get the 20,000 tickets to stay away from this area. California is settling a lawsuit claiming it deprived lawincome students. The lawsuit came to an end last week. Plaintiffs said it violated the students right to a basic education. California will provide 50 million to improve literacy in 75 struggling schools. Money was concluded in the 2020 budget proposal. It will need to be approved by the legislature before it goes into effect. Lets get a check of the weather. Its going to be a nice day today . Yeah, were going to see lots of sunshine. The fog that has dissipated within the last hour. No rain in sight. Were dealing with low clouds and fog, though. Also what brought us the cooler weather yesterday will continue today and its that on shore flow. That sea breeze from the northwest bringing strong winds to some of our Higher Elevations near 20 Miles Per Hour. At mt. Tam and mt. Diablo, it was up to 40 Miles Per Hour an hour 13. But that northwest flow is going to bring us Cool Temperatures once again. Heres a live look from emeryville as we look towards San Francisco. Pretty calm right now over the bay and temperatures are on the cool side. In San Francisco, it was 49 degrees, pacifica still at 41 degrees. Check out the blue skies. We saw that earlier, this is a live shot at walnut creek and thats where things will warm up this afternoon. We have 46 in petaluma and 50s in fairfield, concord and livermore. Check out this pretty camera shot. Were looking for mt. Tam. You see some of those coastal clouds there off to the righthand side, theyre starting to mix out and dissipate and so we will see some sunny conditions for most everyone except at the coast this afternon. So were still dealing with some morning fog and low clouds. That will start to clear, breezy and cooling, once again, and a warming trend starts tomorrow and really ramps up throughout the week. We will be well above average by almost as much as 20 degrees in some spots. Heres the animation, we have some clouds at lunchtime. Well get more sunshine everywhere except all along the coast. The fog will be a little bit thicker there. Temperatures will be on the cool side. Notice tomorrow, things really clear out. Well get plenty of sunshine and thats the beginning of High Pressure affecting our weather. Highs today will be similar to yesterdays numbers with that sea breeze at about 10 to 20 Miles Per Hour, so Half Moon Bay only 56. 50s at the coast. San francisco 59. Oakland 62. Low 60s around the bay. Sunny and mild in the inland areas, santa rosa getting up to 68, fairfield 67. Overnight lows, cool, well be dropping into the 30s in some of the north bay valleys. Well see some fog develop. Some mid to low 40s around the bay. Check out the next seven days in san jose. Were near average. But by wednesday, thursday, friday, we will be near 80 degrees. Thats almost 18 degrees above average and then things rapidly drop on saturday before an on coming system that were tracking as well. Heres the sevenday forecast, morning fog, a cool afternoon, plenty of sunshine starting tomorrow. A string of warm days. Its going to feel like spring by midweek. Thursday looks to be our warmest day near 80 for inland locations. Mid to upper 70s around the bay and at the beaches it could hit 70 degrees. Back to average saturday. It looks dry for friday but theres a chance of rain for sunday. If we dont get rain over this next week, it will be the first time in almost 160 years we havent had rain in february in San Francisco.
