>> good morning. we have our mass transit updates for you now. ferries are running with no delays. 11 trains for b.a.r.t., all on time. ace 1 is also on time. want to bring your attention to this, the b.a.r.t. service expansion begins today. earlier weekday service on some lines and two-line service into san francisco on sunday. the bottom line to all of this, check the schedule because there are changes and almost every line will be impacted in some way. live look at the bay bridge toll plaza, cash lanes are stacking up. live look at san francisco, 280 at king street, nice and empty to begin the monday morning commute. new this morning, the highway patrol working to find out why a man was walking along a freeway before being hit and killed. this happened along northbound u.s. highway 101 in south san francisco. the victim died at the scene around 9:30 last night. drivers faced delays and at one point the chp closed all the lanes on northbound 101. those lanes reopened just before midnight. the san mateo county coroner has not released the man's name. we're still dealing with high winds this morning. it was a wild sunday for a lot of you. this video is from castro valley. one of the many communities that saw power outages. >> liz kreutz joins us live from there with how it looks now. good morning. >> good morning. crews are working right now to clean up the mess caused by those winds. i want to show you behind me now, you can see these crews here on helen street and higher avenue, a portion of higher avenue is still closed off as these crews work to restore power for people in the neighborhood. winds caused a massive 15-foot tree to collapse on to the road as well as nine power lines yesterday afternoon. that forced 12 homes o evacuate. >> we're concerned with homes adjacent to the fallen eucalyptus, there are still several 100-foot tall trees to the rear of the structure. >> the wind picked up. it was scary how fast the wind picked up. >> reporter: as winds picked up, another tree fell and damaged a water pipe on higher avenue. alameda county said they had 20 calls backlogged at one point. some power is back on, but higher avenue is still in the dafshg f dark for some parets. more winds are on the way again today. live in castro valley, liz kreutz, abc7 news. thousands of bay area residents have no electricity because of the high winds knocking out power lines. here's a look at pg&e's website that shows the outages. right now, 26,000 homes and businesses do not have power. the east bay is the hardest hit area with more than 20,000 customers in the dark. pg&e outages peaked yesterday at 300,000. airline travelers may once again experience delays because of the high winds, especially at sfo. drivers encountered a rare sight flights landing over highway 101 in millbrae. be winds forced a different approach. about 40% of sfo's flights were delayed or canceled yesterday. you can track the weather right from your phone any time, download our free abc7 news app, click on the weather tab at the bottom to get the latest information. we're following breaking news a huge fire in burning in oakland. amy hollyfield just got to the scene. good morning, amy. >> good morning. look behind me at the intense scene here. so many firefighters here responding to this house fire. we just arrived on the scene. the battalion chief is in the house now and is headed out to come and brief us within the next few minutes. in fact, i think i see her right there. i will go hunt her down and get more information for you, but i do see firefighters on the roof right now, working hard, it looks like, to open that roof up so they can let the smoke out. i don't see flames right now, just a lot of smoke. so it looks like they have this somewhat under control. i did ask one firefighter, i said is everybody okay? he said yes. i will get more details on this fire in malta, close to 98th avenue in oakland. close to the san leandro border. big response here, possibly because of the houses being close together here, families asleep at this hour. but so many fire trucks filling the streets here in the area and firefighters, you see, working hard on the roof there. again, i will try to get briefed right now, get more details for you. stay with us as we cover this breaking news. reporting live in oakland, amy hollyfield, abc7 news >> thanks. we'll check in with you in a few minutes. this morning there are new cases of the coronavirus among the thousands of passengers quarantined on a cruise ship in japan. about 66 more people on the diamond princess cruise have tested positive. so that brings the total to 1136 including at least 23 americans. overnight "gma" spoke with one of the passengers who contracted the virus. rebecca frazier is in a hospital on shore. >> i doesn't even feel like a cold to be honest. i would have not known anything was wrong with me if they had not tested me. >> coming up on "gma," maggie ruhle will be live in yokohama japan where that cruise ship is docked. a public memorial service will be held for three victims killed alongside kobe bryant in that helicopter crash last month. john, kerry and alyssa altobelli were headed to a tournament at the mamba sports academy when their helicopter crashed into the side of a hill. the service will be head at ainheld at angels stadium in anaheim. ♪ yesterday, suddenly >> the academy paid tribute to the late basketball legend, kobe bryant, at last night's oscars. he was featured in the annual in memoriam segment. he was an oscar winner himself. he took home the award for best animated short film for "dear basketball" in 2018. spike lee also paid tribute to bryant with a purple and gold suit with the number 24 on it. the oscars honored hollywood's best and brightest stars with film's most coveted award. >> this year marked a first in the history of the academy awards. we have more from hollywood. >> reporter: the first oscars of this new decade is officially in the books and it wasted no time making history. the oscars once again without a host. and this is such an incredible demotion. they don't have hosts anymore, you know what? that will impact our super commuters. speeds down to about 16 and 17 miles per hour as you get out of tracy. a live look at the richmond-san rafael bridge, just a couple of cars are making their way here's the 7 things to know this morning. number one, breaking news in oakland. firefighters are battling flames inside this house burning at malta court south of the coliseum come flex. amy hollyfield is there. she will bring us an update in a few minutes. number two is weather. it's good news. the worst of the winds are behind us, at least where most of us live. in the north bay mountains, east bay hills and the diablo range we have the possibility of damaging winds through 11:00 tomorrow morning. number three, gusty winds could bring more damage today. gusts toppled power lines yesterday in the east bay and north bay triggering outages for tens of thousands of people. number four, today b.a.r.t. will officially launch its new ambassador program in response to concerns about passenger safety. ten unarmed uniformed workers will walk the trains between 2:00 p.m. and midnight. the big winner of the oscars was a south korean film, "parasite," which won four awards including best picture. this is the first time in oscar history an international film snagged top honors. number six, the chp issued a high wind advisory for the altamont pass. this will impact our super commuters. speeds are around 17 and 16 miles per hour getting out of tracy. number seven, the 144th annual westminster kennel club dog show continues today with more than 200 breeds competing for some of the top prizes. today's competition features best of breed and group judging ahead of best in show award tomorrow. the president is set town veil his budget for the 2021 fiscal year today. another extended period without rain due to an area of high pressure to our west. look at it going all the way up, the jet stream going up to the arctic circle and diving down to the south. my parents had two inches of snow in atlanta over the weekend. that's how cold it was. >> that doesn't look right. not sure what happened there. mid 60s in san francisco to near 70 in the inland neighborhoods. average highs this time of the year are around 60. 6 to 10 degrees warmer than average. tonight the lows will be more homogenized because of the winds. you can see the green out there in the hills, 50s there. our deepest valleys in the north bay and east bay in upper 30s. most of us in the upper 40s to around 50. here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. commuter with a few the coldest day will
