news to build a better bay area. this is abc7 mornings. >> good morning, everyone. it's sunday, january 26th. i'm liz kreutz. let's start with a quick look at the with weather. here is lisa argen. >> good morning to you. our cold front worked through early this morning dropping most of the rain in the north bay, going in for a closer inspection and a few scattered light showers possible. here's our roof camera. you can see the sun coming out here over the city. it's in the 50s everywhere. 57 in san jose. a few delays at sfo. and the clouds look dark. the possibility of a few leftover morning showers. mid to upper 50s. as we go should be over with. by 6:00, we're dropping into the 50s. it's a little cooler tonight with the clear sky. we'll talk about a sunny start to your monday, whether or not we see any rain in the week ahead but we are going to see some very sunny and mild temperatures as we get into february. i'll explain coming up. liz? >> happening today, the 49ers will be heading to miami one week before skaktaking on the ks city chiefs in super bowl 54. the team is expected to arrive by bus later this morning. sourdough sam and the cheerleaders with help give the 49ers a proper sendoff and we'll bring you all the football fanfare. years ago, there was only a one week gap between the conference championships and the super bowl. it was a scramble for players and coaches to get ready. chris alvarez is in miami with a preview of what's to come this week. >> chris alvarez here in miami for super bowl week between the 49ers and the kansas city chiefs. of course this week was the bye week leadin up to next week's game. kyle shanahan says if they had to play tomorrow, they would be ready. >> if we had to play sunday, we would be ready. when you're able to go through a week like this and go through a normal week and not have a game on sunday, ie to have a long plane ride to go through the week of everything and we'll start over on monday and tuesday. we have a week of tape where we can clean some stuff up or take some stuff out and some more stuff come to us, we can put some stuff in. >> reporter: both teams are set to arrive around 4:40 eastern time. one of the first things you'll notice is, it is warm here. a lot of people in shorts and t-shirts and there was some stuff we saw in the airport, a tropical might be purchased, super bowl liv. with the 49ers, chris alvarez, sports. a few 49ers made time to meet with fans here in the bay area. emmanuel sanders signed autographs. people started lining up hours before he showed up. this is similar to what happened on friday where he signed autographs in daily cities. >> we got our jerseys signed! woo-hoo. >> emmanuel is great. they're going to win. >> it's great to see emmanuel sanders. he stretches the field. i know he didn't have a bye this year, but i think it was worth it. >> it's to win. obviously the super bowl is a big event. at the same time we're going out there to handle business. we're going to try to win. >> a few fans showed up with denver broncos jersey, the team sanders won a super bowl with. and we have a team of reporters headed to miami along with chris alvarez. we'll keep you up to date on the players and fans and our digital team will cover the super bowl week on our facebook page. a woman is dead and police say they've arrested the man they suspect killed her. earlier yesterday morning a man called police asking officers to check on a woman in a home. he said he had not spoken to the woman for several hours. when officers arrived at the home, they found the woman dead with multiple stab wounds. they identified the caller as this man, peter rodriguez. investigators say that they believe he is also the killer. the relationship between the two is still under investigation. new developments in the search forusn a deadly hit-and-run in berkeley.e looking for and he's armed and dangerous. we spoke to police about the progress and they're investigation. >> we consider the suspect armed and dangerous. >> reporter: the search continues for alexander mcgee of oakland. >> officers attempted to arrest the suspect in oakland but he was able to elude capture. we recovered the vehicle that was used in the fatal hit-and-run. >> reporter: a police officer saw mcgee punch a woman in the head on sixth street. when the officer approached the vehicle, he said mcgee made a u-turn while the woman screamed for help. >> after making a wide left on university avenue, the suspect drove his vehicle onto this sidewalk and killed a woman that was sleeping right here. neighbors confirmed she was homeless. >> a homeless person that i had watched for a couple of days sheping in the cold on the tt. died on the streets. >> reporter: candles and flowers were left to remember the 58-year-old victim. two days prior to the hit-and-run, she planned to help the woman. >> you were saying when you saw her first, you thought i'm going to ask her to move out of the way. >> i did. i thought why is she laying there? she should be more inland, maybe in an area that's covered somewhere and i guess i was too late. >> reporter: mcgee has several warrants for his arrest from multiple police departments in the bay area. >> he was outstanding warrants for felony evading and burglary. >> as to the woman inside the vehicle screaming for help, police did not give specifics about her. >> it could be a victim of domestic violence or human trafficking as well. we know that this was a violent assault. >> police hopes the photos lead to his arrest. abc7 news. it's an end of an era. th historic clay theater in san francisco is set to close its doors for good today. it opened in 1910, it was one of the last single-screen theaters in the city. landmark which owns the clay said the theater had been losing money for years. the final screenings will be tonight. tickets are $11. we had a little bit of rain this morning, clearing out? hours ago when we saw that fog and slick roads. all right. san francisco district attorney's office, they have put on hold charges against the man they say is in this body camera video attacking two police officers. those officers i shot the man who is still in the hospital recovering from his injuries. abc7 news reporter lauren martinez has more. >> if you come to san francisco and juinjure one of my officers it's okay, we're going to give you a free pass. >> the district attorney's office is dropping charges seen here in police body camera footage fighting with two police officers on the morning of december 7th. >> his charging decision to not charge mr. hampton for assaulting two of my members not only caused to my members, it should be cause to every person coming to san francisco. >> reporter: on friday, his office made the decision to with draw the complaint against hampton. he says this is not dropping charges. >> there's an important difference between dismissing the case and with drawing the complaint. >> that's lawyer talk. they're with drawing the complaint. if you're between the lines, they're drops the charges. >> reporter: he says this is not a decision one way or the other about whether they'll be charging hampton. it's the decision to wait pending further investigation. >> the decision we made was one that frankly is in the best interest of the officers because they're both being investigated right now by our internal investigation bureau, into their use of their firearms and the incident. it would be improper and unfair to put them on the witness stand to testify against mr. hampton while they are being investigated for their use of force. until both investigations can be completed, we are going to withhold making a final decision on who to charge with what. >> reporter: investigations are standard protocol after an officer-involved shooting. the police department has not released any kind of formal statement about this decision but the chief of police did send out a message indicating he was informed about this withdrawal. he said, quote, i want you to know that we remain committed to working with the d.a. to see that justice is done in this case for our officers. he said he called the chief and the officers directly to explain his decision. in the newsroom, lauren martinez, abc7 news. there's a confirmed case of the deadly coronavirus in orange county. the centers for disease control and prevention said a traveler from wuhan, china, has tested positive for the virus. that patient is in isolation at a hospital and in good condition. there are two other confirmed cases in the u.s., illinois and washington state. this is a live look at sfo. the u.s. consulate on tuesday will be evaatg its staff and private citizens on a charter flight from wuhan to san francisco. a notice says there will be a limited number of seats and those most at risk get the coronavirus -- of coronavirus get priority. the virus has killed 56 people and infected more than here's the latest. >> reporter: another american diagnosed with the deadly coronavirus. the patient in southern california is the third to be diagnosed with the new pneumonialike virus in the u.s. the centers for disease control and prevention confirming they've been to the chinese city of wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak, and tested positive for the virus overnight. the patient is in isolation and said to be in good condition, but more people will likely become infected. this as the outbreak escalates again. there are now 15 countries and territories worldwide with cases. this morning, chinese health officials saying more than 2,000 are now infected there and 56 have died. the chinese health commissioner warning the source of the infection still unknown. the harmfulness of the coronavirus to people of different ages is now changing and most weringly, indications the virus is becoming increasing contagious. over 1,300 more medics have been flown to the epicenter where officials are scrambling to build three new emergency hospitals in a matter of days. these exclusive images filmed for abc news from inside the city show a ghost town with sis warning people to wear masks fluttering in the wind. some shoppers take the risk to stock up on supplies. but there is still around 1,000 u.s. citizens stranded in the wuhan area. now the state department is scrambling to evacuate some of them but it appears so far the space to get people out is limited. we spoke to one american family trapped in a city over 200 miles from wuhan. they were visiting family for the new year mexi maxwell to his grandparents. >> there's a lot of guilt involved there. >> reporter: abc news in hong kong. let's get a check of the weather now with lisa. >> sunshine behind you but not everywhere. here's live doppler 7. looking at the temperatures dropping in the mountains to the mid-30s, it's a rain-snow mix right now. when the front moved through, the snow level was high at about 8,000 feet. with the lower snow levels we're getting a little more in the way of snow, maybe 1 to 4 inches. this is the last amount of rain we're going to see for a while. here's a looking outside our window. pier 15, we have a wind at 12 miles per hour. the winds will be breezy at times today and make it feel a little bit cool. 57 in san jose. it's 54 in gilroy and a look from walnut creek. mid-50s and some fog around the bay. it's 57 by the delta. livermore checking in at 54. a lot of cloud cover, even some mists down here in santa cruz. about 60 for a high. partly cloudy skies today, a few light showers for the next hour or so and then drying out. more sunshine for monday and dry this week. there's an opportunity for a north bay shower late tomorrow into tuesday. the rest of the day today, you can see a little bit of green right there and then throughout the afternoon we break out into more sun and itis a cool's winter day. as we look at the wind profile, check it out, the winds increase. 18 to 20 miles per hour. the wind is getting faster out of the northwest making it feel cool and gusty along the coast to breezy around the bay at times. this is 9:00 tonight. just another element to the cool afternoon today. 59 in oakland. 60 in fremont with low 60s in the south bay and a few patches of fog lingering through the overnight hours. it's a cooler night tonight. as we clear on out, we'll see a lot of sunshine for your monday. temperatures near average with mid-50s to about 60. another chance of rain in the north bay, not looking like we're going to pick up anything measurable, though. into wednesday, it's a mix of clouds and sun. midweek, we transition into a warming trend with highs climbing through the 60s to near 70 by the end of the month, the end of the week. and that's february for us so far. sunny and warm. we'll see how long that lasts. >> if next sunday is anything like next saturday, it's going to be a good day to watch the super bowl. have the doors open. >> it looks nice. >> not that you're going to watch the super bowl outside. >> i bet you some people -- you're giving me an idea there. just ahead, 49ers fans aren't the only ones excited the weeken weekend. as fans have something until i found out what itst it actually was.ed me. dust mite droppings! eeeeeww! dead skin cells! gross! so now, i grab my swiffer sweeper and heavy-duty dusters. duster extends to three feet to get all that gross stuff gotcha! and for that nasty dust on my floors, my sweeper's on it. the textured cloths grab and hold dirt and hair no matter where dust bunnies hide. no more heebie jeebies. phew. glad i stopped cleaning and started swiffering. welcome back. in three days, private vehicles will be banned from a stretch of market street in san francisco. it will include the area where these cars here, if you can tell on market, drivers will still be able to cross market but they won't be allowed to drive down it for about two miles. this will affect commuters, visitors, tourists and business people. this map here shows the area we're talking about from the foot of market. there will be some exceptions, emergency vehicles, commercial vehicles, and taxis. but no exception for uber and lift drivers. abc7 news reporter kate larson explains the change. >> wednesday morning, there's going to be signs everywhere, all along here. >> reporter: those signs will indicate that no private ubers a ubers and lyfts included. >> it's going to make it people who ride bicycles or use prubl transportation. >> what about people who drive cars? >> people who ride and drive cars has been the problem. >> reporter: this woman who was lived in this area all her life, feels like the closure is her problem. >> it's going to make getting around san francisco even crazier than what it is now. are they going to close more streets off. >> reporter: people who use public transportation don't see the new road rules as restrictive. >> i'm for alternative transportation. i don't think it's a terrible thing. people can walk. >> reporter: what's the real impetus for the closure? >> market street's design is out of whack with how it's being used. >> reporter: most of the area runs through his district. market street is home to half of the top 10 intersections for pedestrian and bicycle collisions. >> safety is a huge motivating factor here. but also the potential and the power of having, you know, a thoroughfare like so many cities around the world where you can go and walk, take the bike, and we hope this reinvigorates the street. in the east bay, spring was in the air. we were in oakland as the a's hosted their fan fest this weekend. fans were able to mingle with one another and meet the players. the manager along with faces from the past. there was a lot of optimism heading into the season after the a's made the playoffs last year. >> they've had many, many great teams, this year is going to be fantastic. we're going to win it all, for sure. no doubt about it. a's win the world series. >> it may be hard to believe, but spring training will be here in just three weeks. pitchers and catchers for the a's will report on february 12th. san francisco welcomed in the lunar new year. ♪ >> you see it there. dragons, drummers and firecrackers took over the streets of china town for the first day of the year of the rat. the festival celebrates the beginning of the new year on a traditional lunar calendar. city officials helped ring in the new year. the salvation army hosted a you. you may have slept through it. but the north bay saw anywhere from a half inch to three quarters of an inch of rain. still a few lingering showers in the higher elevations. but we also have some sunshine out there. this is a preview of what you can see this afternoon. partly cloudy skies. this is the north bay around san rafael. it's 58 in san jose. emeryville getting into the sunshine as well with mid-50s. 54 in livermore. an isolated shower the next hour or so and we'll climb through the upper 50s to the low 60s by 1:00. and by the afternoon, it's going to be dry and pretty pleasant. so evening hours are going to be cooler with the clear sky into the low 50s and dropping into the 40s. it's a chillier night tonight. sunny days on the way. now to the race for 2020 and our new
