Reporter a superior court judge ruled friday that the group moms for housing could not legally live in the home they took over nearly two months ago. They turned down an offer from the homes owner for two months of temporary housing. The squatters made a point. Making a point and doing whats right are two different things. Reporter deputies used a battering ram and a robot to arrest four people who refused to leave. Three for resisting an eviction. Walter baker was arrested for obstructing officers. It seemed heavy handed to show number military outfits with guns, and to use a battering ram. I am relieved to hear no children were present when this happened. The doors were barricaded. They had fordified the doors and making entry into the residence was very difficult. So no children present during that eviction process. The charges are all misdemeanors. Money to pay for bail was raised on a go fund me page. The moms say this has really lit a fire. They say it will have a big impact on oakland and the homeless crisis as they are going to continue to fight this fight. No doubt. Where are the women arrested going to stay now that theyre out of jail and out of magnolia street home and there have been offers of temporary shelter. Yeah. With Affordable Housing, the big focus of so many city governments, the newly elected county wofford supervisors is devoting herself to this issue. She becomes the first woman to hold the position in a decade. One of the things weve been really focusing on is addressing Domestic Violence and sexual assault. Chavez who was sworn in as board president er this morning said they now spend 13 million. One of the things is housing, sheltering, it will be a big priority. Reporter the latest proposal is to build up to 80 Affordable Housing units at the new civic center. According to a new 2018 report, violence is the leading cause of homelessness for women. She said more must be done to help them. Especially mothers trying to protect their children. Women are trying to keep their children safe so they may have children live with different family members. The mother staying in a car.
