tense emergency meeting in santa rosa about the homeless crisis in the city happened recently. people living there describing the crisis as exploding opinion the issue is the mile-long encampment on the joe rodota trail. as our reporter reports, neighbors are frustrated. >> we do not feel safe. >> frustrated santa rosa neighbors sounding off at this emergency townhall meeting. most of the folks living near the infamous joe rodota trail becoming a homeless tent city stretching a mile long. >> i'm scared to walk in the neighborhood. >> you supervisors come live in our shoes for a month. see if you can do that. >> lynda hopkins representing the area made no excuses. >> i would like to start off by talking about something that isn't easy. a mette failure. >> hype hopkins says the city county and state failed in the crisis. supervisors recently voted to spend $12 million to relocate more than 200 homeless individuals. >> we are moving forward with clearing the trail by the end of the month. we are standing up an emergency shelter the board of supervisors will vote on the location this tuesday. >> sonoma county is also looking at buying this house on davis street and two others and turning them into homeless shelters. >> it's a giant waste of money. >> some are concerned about establishing shelters in existing neighborhoods. butothers say it's the best solution over. louise going to go. >> questions that arose after the high school announced via email that the independent high school sponsored by the sisters of mercy for 68 hours will close this june. >> today even i was discussing like what classes i would take in my senior year and things like that. >> several parents said they felt blindsided. >> we have to look for alternative options. mercy has offered to help in -- with transitions to other schools. >> the school's basketball coach learned about the news at the same time everyone else did. has the school reached out to you as a coach directly at all. >> no they have not. i think the decision was made and they spoke with folks internally. >> mercy high school explained in an email saying in part rising operating expenses made it impossible for the school to maintain financial stability. the basic demographics and economics in san francisco have changed. and many families can no longer afford to live in the city and pay tuition on top of the cost of living. but this grad police this is part of a bigger kriez. >> this tornado causing things like mercy high school to close. people are being pushed out they can't afford it. >> the high school boudin is shaking things up at the office by firing several prosecutors. boudin was sworn in wednesday. he has pledged to transform the way the city prosecutes cases focusing on a method he calls restorative justice. at least six attorneys were fired yesterday, including several managers in the felony office. boudin released a statement to abc 7 news saying, quote, i had to make difficult stachg decisions in order to put in place a management team that will help me accomplish the work i'm committed to do for san francisco. wroes might national park has been hit with an outbreak of a stomach illness. at least a dozen people so far have been reported getting sick subpoena federal health officials are conducting inspections of the food facilities and a hotel. they say it's too early to identify the illness or how is spread. no dining facilities have been closed so far. we got this viral sureillance video this morning. we want to warn you before we show you the video it may be disturbing. it shows a woman approaching a house with her dog. the home owner tells her to leave. then the woman hits her dog and bites it several times. a tipster led the investigators to the suspect in shasta city where they made an arrest. the dog is now safe with the haven humane society thankfully. oakland restaurant week is underway right now. but running a bay area restaurant has not been clouds around with the showers ending this morning. the king tides this weekend. minor flooding possible. you know the spots around mill valley. parts of the east bay and looking at a series of storms they're weak to get started. and then they get progressively stronger into the latter par of the week. high surf advisory until 3:00 tomorrow. the wave action continues to increase down through the central coast and so we could see 20 to 24-foot breakers. the king tide today at 11:07. 6.7 is the tide. and tomorrow at 6.6. 11:54 in the morning. the rain pushes south here. and dissipates at 8:30 this morning. a few coastal showers. then we're into partly supy to mosly sunny conditions the rest of the day. it's a sunny cold start to sunday. looking at increasing clouds. another weak system on now to developing news in the iran standoff. iran now admits that its military, quote, unintentionally shot down the ukrainian shet liner killing 176 people on bored board. iran denies western accusations for days that one of its missiles downed the aircraft. the boeing 737 went down on the outskirts of tehran hours after iran launched mitchells at u.s. forces. iran's supreme leader now offering condolences to the lives lost and is calling for an investigation. now we want to update you on the latest in the impeachment showdown where this morning it appears where one we are one step closer to senate trial. house speaker and san francisco representative nancy nancy pelosi says she is ready to hand over the two articles of impeachment against president trump to the senate. the speaker was previously withholding the articles of impeachment to pressure republicans to agree to allow additional witnesses at trial. senate majority leader mitch mcconnell says it doesn't look like that's happening. no word yet on the start date for that senate trial. governor newsom unveiled a massive spending plan that if approved would be the largest in california history. we're talking about $222 billion. that's what's on table for wildfire prevention, housing, homelessness and public education. leon melendez has more. >> the governor made the announcement some were not expecting but many hoped for. >> we're expanding coverage regardless of immigration status for all those 65 and over. >> this means upward of 27,000 seepiers who fall under that category can apply for medi-cal. the cost $64.2 million a year. representing a fraction of the governor's $22 billion budget proposal. >> for me, california, you're the best process. >> california already includes low-income, undocumented children in the medi-cal program. as of january 1st, it was expanded to also have young adults up to the age of 26. >> and that does cover primary care, dental cal, med smgss a lot of the other benefits that people need. >> the chairman of the san francisco republican party criticized this latest expansion. >> it creates a magnet and tells people we are a sanctuary state, come and get free health care. we're going to see people rushing even more to come across our borders. >> some don't believe in doing the financially responsible thing. some don't believe in the morality and ethics of allowing people to die on streets and sidewalks or god for bid get from you and allow you tlgt the flu pause we didn't invest in a flu shot. >> here is another side to that. some are concerned that expanding the program would put an added burden on the system. as we all know, there aren't enough doctors who take medi-cal. so the argument is that now you'll have more people enrolling in a program
