them carry a body out. >> reporter: four days ago she saw the man who lives in the town hus moving in. >> i was just walking my dog and i welcomed them into the neighborhood and that was it. they seemed very, very nice. >> reporter: at 11:30 on new year's night the dublin police say the new neighbor woke up to banging at his door, so he looked out, saw his ex-girlfriend and then opened the door. police say a man forced d d >> at that point the resident had his own firearm and he was scared for his life and used his own firearming to his way basically out of danger, out of his residence and called police. >> reporter: the man who was shot once also allegedly fired his gun. the ex-girlfriend died an scene and the resident escaped uninjured. police say they don't want families in the neighborhood which is full of children to be worried, but they definitely are. >> for there to be a shooting here three doors down is very alarming. this a very safe neighborhood. >> reporter: so police tell me they are still trying to understand why the man and his ex-girlfriend showed up here in dublin to begin with. neither of them are from the dublin area. police tell me that no charges are pending against the resident. the investigation is very much ongoing. in dublin, kate larson, abc 7 news. ni> in the north bay authoritiea to deadly crash that happened during a police chase. sky 7 was overhead near the shocking center where the 59-year-old suspect behind the wheel of that silver truck died. chp says the case started -- the chase started after officers saw the man in san rafael standing between two cars with a tire iron in its hand and officers believe the man ran a red light when another car t' boned the vehicle. let's go to the south bay now. this is certainly not the way one san jose family wanted to start the new year. a mother and her kids caught in a terrible hit-and-run on new year's eve. the family forced to count down to the new year from the hospital. the mother is now on a mission to find the driver. >> reporter: maria started the new year in a neck brace. still she's determined to find the driver responsible for this. a hit-and-run crash in san jose that sent her to the hospital on new year's eve. ortega says the physical pain is nothing compared to what could have been. the driver rammed into the back of her car right where her two children were seated. 12-year-old lupe recalls their car pulling up to a road, in a matter of seconds something powerful pushed them into the intersection. her 15-year-old brother unable to shake the sound problems we're having with housing except in one case that means they're demolishing an apartment building full of tenants. >> reporter: there are plans in the works to demolish this six affordable housing units to build 25 to 30 additional units in its place. >> it's not easies at all. >> reporter: the decision to mau move ahead was not easy. >> any time we have to do a housing project we have to find them housing first. >> reporter: we talked to residents of those six units off cherry street. they say they first heard of these plans through the paper. >> that's a pretty bad way to find out anything is to find out in the paper that you're targeted for a demolitionr a change that's going o to disrup your life. >> reporter: rick sandoval is retired and has lived in this apartment for over ten years. he says even though there is word their landlord will find them alternative housing he see mow questions than answers. >> the issue is where is that going to be? is it going to be someplace here in san carlos? i'm single and i can adjust a little bit, but, you know, there are people here that got families. >> reporter: as far as where plans stand the mayor says they're currently in ewro they' continuing negotiations with hip housing. lauren martinez, abc 7 news. new details about the homeless camp along joe redoeda trail in santa rosa. posting this video showing rats in the camp. the county has declared a state of emergency and will spend $12 million to help people on the trail and build a belter bay area. the county says the rats are a health and safety issue for everyone in the
