Good morning, everyone, it is sunday december 1st, im liz kreutz. Lets get right to the look at the weather. This is meteorologist lisa argen. This is a 2 on or storm impact scale. We have heavy downpours, breezy to gusty winds and this morning the rain is coming down from the north bay through the Santa Cruz Mountains. We do have breaks in our inland valleys but there is a chance of thunderstorms. As we look at live doppler 7 you will notice we have wet weather from the santa cruz area up through saratoga and sunnyvale, but as we go into the east bay its been light around martinez and richmond, 580, walnut creek a few light showers, dillon beach into marin, a lot of people live around hayward, fremont, san matteo not seeing any rain there. As we widen the view you can see the steady stream of moisture that wants to push up south of San Francisco bringing that showery regime with it, the high wind warning along the coast. This is through 3 00 tomorrow. The wind advisory for the rest of us we could see winds in excess of 40 miles an hour, Flash Flood Watch until 3 00 monday morning. This is for the kincade fire burn area and around marin county we have had some enhanced rainfall. 56 in oakland, 54 in fremont. So the numbers are milder. Were looking at more wet weather today. The rain and wind caused damage across the bay area. Abc 7 news was in santa clara where a large tree came down at santa maria and santa cruz avenues. It blocked the road but that appears to be the extent of the damage. In San Francisco lp found downed power lines as well. Reporter a near death experience. I realized all those wires were right on top of me so i just got out front there because somebody bad was about to happen. Reporter and something bad did happen. After seeing heavy winds rock power lines san chose chables instincts kicked in. He got out of his car and 45 seconds later his gut feeling turned reality. One wire came down right on top of my car. Reporter santos called 911 and waited across the street. I am lucky to still be alive because the wire came touched my car. And it was sliek sparking, that wire, so probably, i dont know reporter for several hours 39 pg e customers were left without power in the mission district. Across the street brook hunt saw the sparks from inside his home. I saw a flash which i didnt think anything about, it sounded almost like thunder. The lights went out. I thought it was a breaker. Reporter in San Francisco 0. 6 of an inch of rain has fallen. I hope that this protects this business and all the neighbors, the businesses on the street. Theyve been flooded in the past. Its ongoing almost every year they have flooding. Taking a look at the pg e power outage map right now, thousands of customers are without power this morning throughout the bay area. Pg e have tips for what to do if there are downed lines where you live. Never touch downed lines. If you see lines go down call 911. Also call pg e, the number is on your screen. As the storm continues be sure to have a flashlight and backup phone battery in case power does go out. The north bay is seeing a steady flow of rain, the concern is the area burned by the kincade fire in october. County officials are keeping an eye out for possible mudslides. This is a live look at the airport now where the area got a healthy dosage of rain yesterday. The airport says at least 78 flights were canceled, another 560 were delayed. The airport was still experiencing several delays and cancellations overnight from the weather. Heavy snow is expected to keep hitting the sierra today. The Weather Service is warning that travel could be, quote, difficult to impossible. This is i80 near Donner Summit you can see snow removal equipment two, to go clear the roads last night. Chains are required here and on highway 50 except on vehicles with four wheel drives and snow tires. There could be two feet or more on the higher mountain peaks. The bay area isnt the only place seeing rough weather. Parts of the San Bernardino mountains are buried in snow. The community of Running Springs saw several feet and roads are closed off to only local residents. Many of them are getting around on foot. The storm also knocked out power to tens of thousands of people, some of them just got it back after a very chilly night. We just dealt with 20 hours of our electricity being off. It got down to i believe 17 degrees last night. We were cuddled up next to the fireplace. It sucked. It was cold. Big bear reported getting as much as four feet of snow over the past three days, which is seems to be very exciting for a lot of these snowboarders and skiers there, they were happy about that, but that is the biggest november storm for them in decades. Here in the bay area glide church in San Francisco will hold a special celebration honoring world aids day. You are also invited to a Community Event at golden gate park. Several panels of the aids memorial quilt will be welcomed back home. Its coming from an aids Awareness Foundation in atlanta to the National Aids memorial here in San Francisco. The quilt is a symbol of remembrance and love. More than 50,000 panels tell the story of the crisis and honor the loved ones weve lost. Todays memorial event starts at noon. This morning Fremont Police are searching for a suspected hit and run driver who killed a grandmother and her dog on friday night. The wash claimed the life of 72yearold suzanne ogi. Her heartbroken family tells abc 7 News Reporter Cornell Barnard they want the driver to turn themselves in while others want to make a dangerous stretch of road safer. Such a loving person. Always cared for others. Shes going to be dearly missed. Reporter ton ogirobbins is remembering his mom, 72yearold suzanne ogi, she and her dog molly were killed friday night by a suspected hit and run driver while walking in a crosswalk on niles blfl. Witnesses told police the driver described as a white man in his 50s with gray hair and glasses stopped and got out of his car for a moment. The person that hit her got out i heard and took a look and took off. I hope that theyre brave enough to turn themselves in and do the right thing. Reporter a small memorial of flowers and a toy dog has been left at the scene. The suspects car described only as a silver or gray sedan, likely has front end damage. Right now we are looking at this as a felony hit and run. What we would like is for him to come contact us so we could get his side of the story. Reporter the speed limit on niles boulevard is 40 miles an hour but neighbors say car drive much faster than that and even in this crosswalk i am a bit reluctant to step out. Pretty bad stretch of road. Cars fly pretty quick. I dont know why they dont put traffic lights in, its like a freeway. Reporter police say another pedestrian was killed by a car on this stretch of niles boulevard two years ago. Weve been begging for stop signs. Next week the city council is set to hear a plan on reducing the speed limit and adding a signal light on niles boulevard near the spot where his mom suzanne lost her life. Two people somehow are okay this morning after their car was hit by an amtrak train in union city. The Alameda County Fire Department shared these pictures last night and you can see the back end of the car is crushed. Investigators say the driver accidentally turned on to the Railroad Tracks near e and railroad streets. The train then hit the car and pushed it 800 yards. No one on the train was hurt, either. Disability advocates are speaking out against the ban of single use cups. According to the chronicle advocates say the ban hurts disabled people who have limited mobility or decreased sensation in their hands. They say glass and ceramic mugs are too heavy or slippery to lift and hold. Berkeley will impose a 25 cent charge for singleuse cups starting in january but the city is working with advocates to figure out a way for disabled people to avoid that charge. We have rain, wind and a Higher Elevation where the southerly wind is enhancing the rainfall from the Santa Cruz Mountains, from the north bay and of course the fire area. So as we look at live doppler 7 were seeing that steady stream of moisture pushing up from the south, its being enhanced here, you can see the darker green, yellow and also along the coast and even around gilroy and san jose weve got the winds over 30 miles an hour. Up in the north bay from vallejo to American Canyon its been light rain over into the east bay from concord, but up in the north bay from santa rosa, occidental and the coast its been heavier. San francisco light rain, you see the moisture offshore, hayward and fremont it has been light but more on the way. This is also that rain shadow effect where most of the moisture gets rung out along the coast, the Higher Elevations not much left for our inland valleys, tahoe City Temperatures have climbed into the mid and upper 30s. The source of the energy is still offshore and with those southerly winds we will continue to see the rain be turned up into the bay area today. It is 56 in oakland and hayward, 55 fremont, 51 san jose. Much milder complements of the shoulder wind. Look at mt. Diablo, over 45 miles an hour and as we look at the next 24 hours doesnt change. Thats why we have the wind advisory for the bay area, the wind warning for the coast here and as we get into the evening hours the reds and purple indicate that the winds are still gusting to over 40 miles an hour, over 30 mile an hour in the east bay, eventually by early monday morning things begin to quiet the roads are wet here, periods of rain and wind
