From abc 7, live breaking news. Right away that breaking news is comingonht that is where there has been a mass shooting at a family home. Four people were killed, six others were hurt. That suspect still on the run. Good evening and thanks for joining us. That shooting happened at about 8 00 tonight, that home located in east central fresno. You can see on this map this is a residential area just about three blocks south of the Fresno Yosemite International airport. Dozens of people were gathered there to watch football. This was a family gathering. At least 35 people were at this party watching a Football Game when an unknown suspect accesses th into the crowd. At least 10 people were shot and four are dead. The initial information is that somebody came up on foot possibly, at least one suspect, and began firing. They fired into the backyard where most of the people were in this party striking ten people in the course of that gunshot. Preliminarily, three people died on scene, all asian males between the ages 25 and 30. When police arrived, they found several victims fooichlt were transforted to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. Police are interviewing neighbors and collecting Video Surveillance is from that area to try to piece together what happened. Atf tweeted they have officials on the way to investigate. Ann recalls not having any electricity several days last month. We had no power and we used lanterns. But we had no hot water. Servinguny brunch, but during octobers power shut off, the restaurant was forced to close and lost thousands of hr away we have in the restaurant, especially things like dairy, seafood. Pg e says its watching a weather system which could increase the risk of wild fires midweek. Right now were monitoring the forecast for wednesday november 20th. It shows the potential for dry and windy weather in the sierra foothills and north bay areas. Lack of rain is not helping. What should have been an end of fire season has not happened. Pg e says the approaching weather system could be one which prompted a psps on october 23rd impacting about 180,000 customers. Im sure its for the best, why theyre doing this. I hope so. But others arent so sure. I think its years of mismanagement coming home to roost. I think the public just has to be ready to deal with this for a few years. Alvin wants to honor his 21yearold son who was hit and killed by a vehicle in 2014. What do you want the change to be in San Francisco . I want change to the legislation to give us power to slow down and change the speed limits, maybe more people accountable for their actions. Reporter in the crowd we also met the sandberg family. Theyve had several close calls. I was luckily just thrown off the bike and i was fine. But it was pretty scary. And then another time i did get doored by a cab which, you know, was not great. A possible case of road rage ended with the stabbing of a park ranger on a San Francisco freeway. Police say an on duty San Francisco city park ranger followed a suspects car on to the freeway this morning after seeing the driver yelling at other drivers. The suspect crashed into the Center Divide near the 7th street off ramp and the suspect stabbed him. People driving by helped the ranger and chaos unfolded, poli dispatched. One caller indicated the suspect threatened her life. Suspect forced her out of her vehicle. She did not give him her car. He indicated he was going to kill her. The suspect was taken to the hospital. The ranger was treated on the scene and is expected to be okay. Fremont is dealing with issues of its own including homelessness and house affordability. A lot more than i realized and its growing. Reporter rhonda told us she was born to a wealthy family in the area but has lived on the streets of fremont for nearly a decade. You feel powerless. I have four kids. One of them my oldest was killed. And my two daughters, they too are homeless. Reporter so, lets talk about the numbers because they dont lie. Fremont has the Third Largest Homeless Population in Alameda County behind oakland and berkeley. As of january of this year, the citys biennial survey survey sy 608 homeless people, up 27 since 2017. Alameda county saw a 40 increase in that time. Do you think the city is doing enough to help the homeless . I think theyre doing what they can with awareness of, you know, Bigger Picture. Reporter this Bigger Picture takes us back to the summer when hundreds protested against a proposed Homeless Navigation Center in fremont. After debate, members of the city council made the decision to put it in a parking lot behind city hall. Why did the city council decide this was the best spot . This was the best location for the Navigation Center because there are so many resources near from the the Family Resource city to city staff. The center could open by mid2020 and cost 7. 7 million to build and operate for the next three fiscal years. To do nothing was not an option. Reporter some of you might be wondering how did we get here . California is short millions of Housing Units and wages havent kept up with the cost of housing. The homeless problem has become more visible and, you know, its impacting everyday life for most citizens in fremont. Fremont resident is executive director of abode services, one of the largest providers of homes for the homeless. I want my community to be healthierment i want it to be a place that were all proud of, and we cant do that when some of us are unhoused, when some of us dont have our basic needs met. Reporter its estimated for every person who gets housed, there are three people who are newly homeless. And believe it or not, the vast majority of the homeless are hidden. Theyre in families. Theyre children. Theyre single adults who dont have a disability but who have been disrupted by the economy. This is a crisis that weighs on the minds of many including the congregation at centerville presbyterian church. We have a group of volunteer chaplains that sit with people and listen to their story. The whole idea is just to embrace their journey right now and help us to understand what it is. Fremont is an affluent suburb where the average home sells for a million dollars. But there is still space to build here, and the city has been aggressive with planning for a future that includes more transient oriented developments such as this under development. Habitat for humanity has also been working with the city for projects like Central Commons which will eventually be home to more than 30 families who have had a hand in building it through sweat equity. I was overwhelmed. I thought to myself theres no way ill be able to do this as a single mom working fulltime. Just realizing im walking up the stairs to my room and saying good night to my daughter in her room, thats just every day im amazed at how far ive come. San franciscos Planning Commission approved a project to take an old abandoned gas station and develop the space into a mixed use commercial and residential building.
