Firefighters are putting out hot spots as investigators figure out what happened. Stephanie ramos is here with more. Good morning, stephanie. Reporter eva, good morning. Officials tell abc news the call came in around 3 00 this morning and, as you mentioned, in allentown, pennsylvania. But dan, this is a situation were closely monitoring. We are and lets hope it stays that way. Thank you very much. We appreciate it, stephanie. Were going to move on now to the breaking political news. President trump reversing course on his controversial announcement that he wanted to hold a major world summit at his family resort in miami. Abcs david wright is right there at the white house. David, whats going on with the aboutface . Reporter well, good morning, dan. This is a rare retreat for President Trump and it came last night in a series of tweets. The president tweeting, based on both media and democratcrazed, and irrational hostility, we will no longer consider Trump National doral in miami as the host site for the g7. We will begin the search for another site immediately. The decision to hold the g7 at a trump resort was controversial from the start. Acting white house chief of staff, mick mulvaney, suggested that the president wouldnt be profiting from it. He said that this wasnt the only choice but he claimed it was the best choice. Many were skeptical. The g7 takes place in june. Miami can be a bit muggy in june. Doral has struggled financially and last year there was reports of a bedbug infestation that meant that the hashtag, bedbug summit began to trend, dan. Its muggy in june and also the beginning of hurricane season. The white house, as you mentioned, said that the Trump Organization would do this summit for cost, meaning they wouldnt make a profit. That was not persuasive to the critics however. Reporter it was not, dan. For one thing, its not clear how the Trump Organization would have accounted for that, and its clear that g7 of the doral would have helped, bottom line. The last g7 cost the french taxpayers some 40 million. So House Democrats were planning to hold hearings. The White House Counsels Office privately expressed reservations. The constitution prohibits the president from profiting from his office, so by taking doral off the table, the white house has at the very least, avoided another round of investigations, dan. Abcs david wright at the white house. Thank you very much. Whit, over to you. To the race for 2020. A massive rally marking a return to the campaign trail, democrat Bernie Sanders after his heart atta and a big endorsement. Abcs rachel scott was there and joins us in studio with what the supporters are saying about the sanders comeback. Rachel, good morning. Reporter good morning. Yes, its been three weeks since that health scare but senator Bernie Sanders is bouncing back, making his return to the campaign trail, bringing in new endorsements and bringing out the largest crowd weve seen in the democratic primary so far. I am back. [ cheers ] reporter senator Bernie Sanders flexing his campaign muscle, pushing past a recent heart attack to reassure his supporters hes up for the challenge. I am more than ready to assume the office of president of the united states. Reporter more than 25,000 packing a park in queens, new york making sanders rally the largest for any democrat in the 2020 campaign. His return to the Campaign Trial stamped with a coveted endorsement. Holy cow. Reporter congresswoman alexandria ocasiocortez whats up, new york city reporter praising the crowded field of democrats but throwing her support behind just one. We have one of the best democratic president ial primary fields in a generation, and much of that is thanks to the work that Bernie Sanders has done in his entire life. Reporter his supporters hope that endorsement gives sanders who has slipped in the polls a boost. I think seeing women of color, the van guard of the new left endorsing bernie, it means everything to me as a young person. Reporter the other candidates out and about in key early voting states. Hello, virginia. Reporter as an unexpected feud plays out in the race. Former democratic president ial nominee Hillary Clinton without evidence suggested russian influence in the primary. I think theyve got their eye on somebody whos currently in the democratic primary and theyre grooming her to be the thirdparty candidate. Shes the favorite of the russians. Reporter congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard believed she was the target of that attack, firing back calling clinton the queen of warmongers and even challenging her to join the race. Clintons team has not responded to our request for comment but President Trump is weighing in on this disagreement, lashing out at clinton, guys. Its good to have you inside. You have been all over the country traveling. Its a lot warmer in the studio. You have been doing great. Happy to have you. Thank you. Now overseas to the syria crisis heating up with tension on the ground as the syrians ask for an emergency phone call with Vice President pence. James longman has more from northern iraq. Reporter good morning, eva. With both sides accusing the other of breaking this agreement, the prospects of it lasting are pretty slim, and we spoke to a kurdish commander who says as far as shes concerned, its already over. This morning, the u. S. Brokered pause in fighting in northeast syria appears on the brink of collapse. A kurdish commander telling abc news she believes the planned fiveday break is effectively over. Turkey has attacked in more than 38 places since the ceasefire came into force. But turkey says it is honoring the agreement and is only acting in selfdefense. We hope they will stick to this agreement and leave this area because we do not want to see any further clashes. Reporter u. S. Defense secretary mark esper traveling to the middle east on saturday claims the ceasefire is mostly holding. We see a stabilization of the lines if you will on the ground, and we do get reports of intermittent fires, this and that. That doesnt surprise me, necessarily. Reporter abdullah says Kurdish Forces have told the americans this is not the case. Have you spoken to the americans . When did you last speak to secretary pompeos team or Vice President pences team about whats happening . We told them clearly you are the guarantor of the ceasefire and told them you are responsible for what happens here. For two days weve tried to get our fighters out to the area and we couldnt. Reporter donald trump has celebrating the deal struck by Vice President pence and secretary pompeo. Donald trump says that the kurds are happy. I would tell mr. Trump that the kurds are not happy. They have killed all these people, so of course, theyre not happy. This agreement has allowed turkey to occupy our land and kill our people. This began when donald trump decided to announce the u. S. Troops would be leaving northern syria, but defense secretary mark esper has said that is a matter of weeks and not days, and when they do leave, some of them wont be going home. Theyll just be redeployed elsewhere in this region, dan. James longman on the ground in iraq, james, thank you very much. We really appreciate it. So much going on so lets bring in our chief anchor George Stephanopoulos whos hosting this week later this morning. Good morning. Good morning. Lets start with the situation in syria. I know you have an exclusive with the secretary of state, mike pompeo. Given the recent comments from the president about how this is happening 7,000 miles away, its all sand theyre fighting over. How much energy is there in the administration to try to clean this situation up, and do they have leverage . Well, this is the president s policy going back to the phone call three weeks ago with president erdogan of turkey, that letter that he sent this week as well, the president has made it very clear that he wants out. Despite the pressure hes facing, despite the repercussions on the ground, you see the kurds calling this a betrayal. Thats being echoed by even the president s closest allies here in the united states, especially those republican senators, people like mitch mcconnell, the republajoric my leader who says this withdrawal is a strategic nightmare. Hes calling, senator mcconnell, for the u. S. To prepare to put troops back in. There is zero indication that the president is prepared to do that, and in the wake of that its hard to see what kind of leverage we do have to prevent turkey from going further after this strategic pause thats going on right now. Why do you think the president is so resistant to these calls from within his own party . He says this is what he believes. He always wanted to get out of endless wars. Now, the contradiction you see here is that the president is removing troops from syria as hes adding more than 1,000 troops to saudi arabia but the president just seems committed to getting out despite what many believe will be a victory for russia here, despite the concerns that isis could come back. The president seems clear. And a victory for iran some say. Lets talk domestic politics. We saw those images, a huge rally for Bernie Sanders right here in new york city this weekend. Many people might have been tempted to write off his candidacy given the declining poll numbers and the fact that he had a heart attack recently. You look it a these images though. Do the doubters have to reconsider . Yeah, that was some rally yesterday with aoc. Ilhan omar, another member of the squad, that endorsement. He had a fairly strong debate performance tuesday night. As you know, hes got more cash than anyone on hand. I think he is here to stay, at least for a while. Well have to see how the voters are reacting particularly in the early states of iowa and New Hampshire where, as you pointed out, Bernie Sanders had been declining even before the heart attack. George stephanopoulos, thank you very much. Always great to see you. Appreciate it. And i want to remind everybody, george, as always, has a big show this morning. As mentioned, hes got that exclusive interview with the secretary of state, mike pompeo, as the situation in syria rages. Then the top democratic on the Foreign Relations committee, senator bob menendez, will be here to respond. Plus as always the powerhouse roundtable. Thats all coming up later on this week this morning on abc. Whit, over to you. Now to the brexit chaos overseas. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson sending a letter to the European Union on saturday asking to delay britains exit by making it clear that he personally opposes the delay. The letter comes after a rare saturday session. Parliament voted to postpone a decision on whether to back Johnsons Brexit deal. The plan would have the u. K. Leaving the European Union by the end of this month. This is the third time the u. K. Has asked the eu for a brexit extension. Now to the murder of a young father originally from australia and living in texas killed during a Home Invasion while his wife and small children were also in the house. Police are looking for a motive at this hour. Marci gonzalez joins us from l. A. With more on this investigation. Good morning, marci. Reporter eva, good morning. This is such an unsettling and unusual case. Investigators say from the outside of the house it would have been clear to anyone that a family with kids lives there and that they were at home. Now theyre trying to figure out why the house was targeted and how things turned violent so quickly. Someone just broke in my house and then shot my husband. Reporter overnight investigators releasing the gutwrenching 911 call made moments after intruders broke into a texas home in the middle of the night, killing this young father as he tried to defend his family. I need help. I need help so bad. Reporter brenton estorffes wife telling the dispatcher they and their children, just 1 and 3 years old, were startled awake early thursday morning by the sound of a window shattering. Brenton gets up, confronts two individuals inside the residence, at which point in time he was shot and killed. Brenton was there to protect his family. Is the person that shot your husband, is he still there . No, i dont think so but im so scared. Reporter detectives near houston now trying to track down the killers, hoping this Surveillance Video of what they believe may be the getaway vehicle driving from the estorffe familys home could help. Were very interested, quite honestly, to identify the owner of that vehicle. Reporter brentons family arriving from his native australia still hasnt really sunk in its real. Reporter baffled by this horrifying crime that the Sheriffs Office vows to solve. We will stop at nothing. We will investigate. We will investigate. We will investigate until we can bring these individuals to justice. Investigators still dont know the motive, and while they have a vague description of th two intruders, they say there may be a third suspect as well. Theres now a 25,000 reward for information leading to the killers arrest. Dan. You used the right words there, baffling and horrifying. Marci, thank you so much. Really appreciate it. Were going to switch gears right now and turn to some lighter news that just transpired here in the new york city area. Just hours ago the Australian Airline qantas completed the first nonstop commercial flight from new york to sydney. The jet carrying 49 people touched down in sydney after a 19 hour and 16 minute journey, making it the worlds longest commercial flight. Qantas says this is the first of three flights during which they will run tests to figure out how to best manage pilot and passenger fatigue. After 19 hours on the flight i think weve gotten this right. I feel like weve been on a flight a lot shorter than that. I feel refreshed, feel great. In talking to all the passengers, that was the Common Thread that came from it. Even for people in the middle seat . I dont know. Back row coach seat . One of the ways the airline is hoping to make this long flight better for passengers is by adding an exercise area in economy class. A lot of peanuts. Except then people are sweaty and gross sitting next to you. Fair point. Im just saying. We only traveled together at one time. Just saying. These are things shower with the gym. Take a look at this video. A touchdown celebration took a frightening turn on the field at the oklahoma West Virginia football game. Look at that, oklahomas horsedrawn sooner schooner was taking its traditional touchdown lap when the covered wagon tipped over, sending its passengers toppling onto the field. Fortunately no one, including the two horses pulling the wagon, was hurt. The university is blaming the accident on a weight distribution problem from the riders in the wagon. Tight turn with those wagon wheels. You dont have the best grip to come around the corner. We want to get a check of the forecast. You saw mr. Rob marciano is back in the studio and youre wearing dans favorite brown suit. Macchiato marciano. Thats a rely cute tie. Thank you, eva. I figured if i wore a tie with a picture of my kids on it you couldnt make fun of my suit. You would be inoculated. Exactly. Good morning again, guys. Good to be back from game day. Hope you enjoyed your saturday of College Football. We want to share with you whats happening with whats left of nestor. It did drop a number of tornados across the south. Seven tornadoes reported in spots. This one in polk county, florida. A pretty significant one. Ef2 with 120 mileperhour winds on the ground for nine miles. Typically the spinups that come from hurricanes dont last that long or are that strong, but this one was. This damaged 50 homes in the area. You can see some of the damage. This is bringing a lot of rain to the midatlantic and the carolinas and parts of virginia. Getting into the afternoon, it gets past d. C. I think the redskins game will be impacted. The giants game might see rain late. I95 gets rain late and then it moves out to sea. We got a number of storms that are rolling through the Pacific Northwest, and Severe Weather is going to be a
