A 30th horse has died at the santa anita race track this weekend. The track owner which also owns Golden Gate Fields in the east bay promptly banned a legendary trainer from both of those tracks. That meant those horses had to be relocated from albany to the alameda fairgrounds if pleasanton and thats where abc7 News Reporter Leslie Brinkley is live with the story. Leslie. Reporter thats right. Last night and into this morning, 36 horses, race horses were moved from barn 53 at Golden Gate Fields out here to the pleasanton fairgrounds for Alameda County. Now, in the horse racing world, from what i learned today, its quickly becoming a blaming game with, of course, the track owners blaming jerry halendorfer for some of the horses deaths on the track. The trainer said maybe the blame lies with the tracks. A horse trained by jerry, named american currency, was euthanized over the weekend after a workout on the santa anita track. Within hours, the group issued a statement saying, we regret that his record in recent months at both santa anita and Golden Gate Fields does not match the level of safety and accountability we demand. Effective immediately, m mr. Hollendorfer is no longer welcome to stable, race or train his horses at any of our facilities. It was a harsh punishment for the storied trainer who has won over 7,000 races. He lives in richmond and did not return our calls. 30 horses have mysteriously died at santa anita since december, four of them trained by hollendorfer. We love these horses, so reporter is there pressure in this business to keep running your horses . There can be with owners, but not really. Reporter but just that you care. Most trainers do . All trainers care for their horses. And they love their horses. Is it just one trainer . No, there are other horses at that track, too, so it cant just be the trainers. We have to take a close look at the track. Reporter owner trainer howi thunder bolt, hses. Its all about the horse and im not going to be strong armed into doing something that isnt unanswered questions. Did trainers run unfit horses and use excessive medications . Did winter rains affect the track surface . I spoke with the california racing board today. They confirmed that they hve an Investigation Underway in conjunction with the los angeles d. A. s office into santa anitas horse facilities. No word on the stage that investigation is at. Meanwhile, hollendorfers 36 horses from Golden Gate Fields are in pleasanton now and 46 other horses have been removed from santa anita and are now down in orange county. In pleasanton, im Leslie Brinkley, abc7 news. Okay, leslie, thank you. There is heavy traffic through the Altamont Pass because of a grass fire that burned right up to 580. The fire broke out about 3 15 near greenville road in livermore. All westbound lanes of 580 are closed. Two have reopened. You can see from sky 7 a big back up. A wildfire in the hills of fremont last night may have been the result of a domestic dispute between a man and a woman. Fremont police tell abc7 news they dont think it was started by illegal fireworks or a homeless camp the fire was near mission boulevard in the niles area and forced people to evacuate from a dozen homes. It burned about 15 acres. No one was hurt and no buildings were damaged. Concern about the summer fire season is growing in lafayette, specifically in the happy valley neighborhood that has seen trials and tribulations over fire station 16. The fire station was closed in 2013 because of the citys tough financial situation at that time. It was scheduled to reopen this past april. Thats now been delayed until august, and residents in the neighborhood say thats just too long to wait. Abc7 News Reporter Laura Anthony is live in lafayette with the efforts there to help build a better bay area. Laura. Reporter well, hi, ama. This station 16 was supposed to open last year, then it was pushed to april 1st of this year. Now they are saying august 1st maybe. Thats halfway through the fire season. Do you blame pg e for the fact this isnt open yet . Unfortunately, i do. Reporter contra costa supervisor has seen enough of this unfinished fire station in lafayette, one that was supposed to open last year. Anderson says the dispute with pg e over the placement of a meter has caused much of the delay. We got into a back and forth argument about whether, in fact, the meter reader should be placed outside rather than inside. And it should not have required me as a county supervisor getting involved, bringing in pg es Legal Counsel to say, enough is enough. We need to move forward with this fire station. Reporter station 16 actually closed six years ago. The victim of various structural issues and budget cuts at the time. But in recent years, the decision was made to reopen the station in lafayettes happy valley neighborhood. Long designated as one with high fire danger. So there will be an electronic display here where the Engine Company will be able to map their route to the emergency. Reporter deputy fire chief Aaron Mcallister showed us around the new station. This neighborhood along with others in Contra Costa County have a profile similar to those that we saw in napa and sonoma county. And thats one of the reasons were reoccupying the station. Reporter pg e sent us a statement addressing its role in station 16s delayed opening. We have been working closely with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection district to ensure firehouse 16 meets our safety standards. We apologize for any delays this may have caused. Neighbor Charlie Graham says he is not panicked, but he is looking forward to the stations opening. Were excited to hopefully have this thing open in august so that, you know, in time for this years fire season. So if there is a fire we can address it quickly rather than having it spread. Reporter now, pg e and the county and city say the last major piece of this puzzles installing a transformer up on that pole. Normally its a process that could take weekends or hopefully here in lafayette that it only takes days. Both contra costa fire and pg e plan to update the Lafayette City Council tonight at their meeting. Okay, lara, thanks very much. We want to hear your ideas about building a better bay area. He contacted me today and he asked me for the new place he have. I dont recognize sometimes. Reporter we connected both San Francisco and south San Francisco Police Departments to a Property Management company that says they might have a strong lead into who this fake landlord is. Over the phone one of the investigators with the south San Francisco Police Department said the scam might have connections in several cities in california. Translator i just want people to be careful. The same way that we were duped, it can happen to anyone else. They make the scam so real, like if they are, in fact, the property owners. Reporter south San Francisco police did not want to go on camera to protect the investigation, but confirmed that they do have a number in connection to the lockbox key used in another scam attempt. He take my money from my pocket, from my family, but he not take our dreams.
