it's sunday, june 2nd. thanks for being with us. let's start with the forecast. here is lisa. >> i've been watching the clouds peel away from our east bay valley. it's been sunny but breezy by the delta. here is a look at live doppler 7 where you can see the cloud cover. a little sun from downtown. 56 in the city. 61, mountain view with 50s at the coast. here in santa cruz only in the low 60s for highs. we'll get some sunshine. 54 in santa rosa with low 60s by the delta, concord. looking to golden gate, you needed your wiper for many of you by the coast and taround th. we'll key upper 50s with low 70s. upper 70s in our inland valleys. not likely to reach too many 80s. we'll fix that and turn around as soon as tomorrow. developing news. new haven unified and its striking teachers union will return to the bargaining table. state superintendent stepped into talks on friday to try to broker a deal to end the two week strike. the big roadblock, teacher salaries. district officials say high school graduation ceremonies will continue with or without a deal. the last day of school is june 13th. today is the last day of the california democratic party convention. senator bernie here to preach california exceptionalism except when it comes to the warriors. >> reporter: absent is joe biden who declined an invite to speech. bernie sanders and other candidates are scheduled to speak on san francisco. abc 7 news. presidential candidate beto o'rourke also took to the stage yesterday in san francisco. he targeted the president's immigration policies. >> we will end the chaos a bit of a scare at a related event at the move on forum. man walked up on the stage and grabbed the microphone right out of senator kamala harris hand. it was about 15 seconds before security removed section. firefighters are keeping an eye on a chemical plant after an explosion sent plumes of smoke into the air and rattled a santa clara neighborhood. it happened on norman avenue. the explosion caused a shelter in place for residents and businesses in the area. abc 7 news reporterore. >> reporter: flames bursting out of this chemical facility shook buildings and residents at least five miles away from it. >> when you heard the boom and then you felt like a wave of pressure of like a force just hitting you like all around you. slanting your back. >> reporter: several blocks from the plant, evan could see the flames from his business. he described them as 50 feet high. his first thought was to save his workers. >> i went outside and i saw a bunch of fire. then i told my workers to, you guys just run to the back. >> reporter: at least four workers at the air products plant located on norman avenue were on site during the explosion. santa clara fire says they arrived on scene at 4:30 p.m. and all signs point to a leak. >> the tanker truck was in the process of being fueled and it began to leak and there was loud hissing noise. the workers on cite attempted to shut down the valve to the line fueling one of the trucks. >> reporter: it took firefighters an hour to put out the fire. the biggest challenge. hydrogen is invisible. >> they were using thermal imaging cameras to make sure the highw hydrogen wasn't burning. >> reporter: businesses were evacuated and a two block shelter in place was in effect for hours. >> it was scary. >> reporter: there were no injuries and now the fire department is investigating. happening today, you can watch the warriors take on the raptors in game two of the finals. the team is hosting a watch party tonight. the first 10,000 fans will get a er card. game night concessions and merchandise will be available. doors open at 4:00 this afternoon. parking costs 20 bucks. a portion of the proceed will go to the warriors community foundation. fans are making their predictions for game 2. abc 7 news anchor went searching for some of those fans but found herself going to new heights at one of the city's most famous landmarks. >> reporter: since the warriors left us hanging for game one, we thought we would do the same thing at one of toronto's hottest destinations. this is the cn tower, considered one of the seven wonders of full accuweather report. lisa will let us know when the fog will lift in a little bit. the happy reunion after a dog stolen from an adoption event is returned to the non-profit that sheltered her for most of her life. lisa has details on the dog's return and now possible adoption. >> so good to see her. >> reporter: to say iris is puppy is jelly's place animal rescue would be an understatement. >> come here, my girl. i'm just happy to have her back. she was so excited when she seen us. >> reporter: the 4-month-old was stolen nearly a week ago. she was found sitting at the corner in san francisco after having been traded and passed to different people several times. iris had a tough may. to weeks ago she went foster care but was returned because of her high energy. last sunday she went to an adoption event where she was stolen. jelly's owner is sure this woman took iris this day. she not only stole the dog but took a leash and other times from the store before walking out the front door. >> i was terrifterrified. i didn't know they were ing to care for her. >> reporter: facebook photo campaign was launched and it happened that senior deputy conway girlfriend saw him and forwarded it to him. they noticed a small dog with a homeless person. >> i go, look at the photos on facebook and go that's the dog. we go the dog is stolen. they go okay. we'll give you the dog. >> reporter: iris was not with the initial woman. that woman still at large. it was all about celebrating a young puppy's return. >> i was very, very excited. i cried for probably ten minutes. >> reporter: that's not all. iris may have a new home soon too. >> do you think you might adopt iris? >> we're planning to head out there to take a look at her and see if she's compatible with our son. >> reporter: the chances to find her forever home is very high. we're focusing on issues that affect our quality of life while also looking for improve mentes. a grocery store opened yesterday on san sun. 58 in oakland. the airport. san mat will be pretty nice and mild today in the upper 60s to near 70s. 60 in livermore. with that breeze we're on the mild side baa cool breeze through the delta. just a few degrees milder along the coast with the plan ket of clou -- blanket of clouds. we have a bit of everything. some mist and some fog and sunshine. temperatures coming down around 4 to 6 degrees in some spots and a warm up tomorrow. you can see a few drops on the lens from santa cruz. this is how it looks there where folks are just out and about enjoying the morning. if you're headed to the beach, it will be cool. we'll get the mpartial clearing. 64 ocean temperature. here is a look at the trend in concord for much of the east bay. upper 70s and then we warm up by ten degrees tomorrow. look at what happens on tuesday and wednesday. the warmest weather we have seen in quite some time. next weekend looks to warm up again. in terms of how much warmth we're expecting, low to mid-80s in our inland valleys tomorrow. that feels pretty typical and 70s around the bay. at the coast it will be less fog and we'll see that quicker warm up on tuesday with low 90s inland. 70s around the bay. upper 70s on the peninsula. wednesday, holding onto some of that warmth. we hold on the the heat a couple of days and the sea breeze comes back. upper 50s, cool for half-moon bay. 72 napa and san rafael. 78 in livermore. yesterday we did enjoy socy som the 80s. breezy where the fog will pull back. upper 70s inland with lots of sunshine each and every day with the warming trend beginning tomorrow. hour by hour day by day. it's warmer the second half is cooler. not for long. looks like we will warm up next week. cold for the month of may. not everybody but a lot of people have conditions where you live. >> just for that i'm bringing you a sun shot. i was saying that all morning long and it was the case. the south bay began to clear out as well as the east bay. we're looking at temperatures responding in the 60s in some spots. where it's cool and gray we're in the 50s. partly cloudy san francisco, 56. with 55 and the clouds half-moon bay. here is another shot of the cloudy conditions where numbers the the north bay are still stuck in the 50s with the clouds there for you in napa. 60 in livermore. the fog continues to pull away from the coast but instead of a warmer day it's a cooler day for every one. we have the southwesterly wind and by 2:00, upper 60s to mid and upper 70s. the fog comes back but it's not as robust. that will allow for a quicker burn off for your monday. we're talking warmer weather. i'll tell you when, coming up. now to the deadly shooting out of virginia where 12 people were killed and several others wounded. the suspect had not been fired from his job as a city employee. abc news reporter trevor alt is live in virginia beach where the victims are being remembered. trevor, good morning to you. >> reporter: chris, good morning. we're clearing up some confusion. there were some con fliflicting reports. what we learned from city officials in a press conference is the day of the massacre, on friday, he turned in his written two week notice. the fact he hadn't left his job yet, his badge was still if you thinkal -- functional. they still don't know why he did it and neither do the people of virginia beach. they are now grapplie ining wits harsh reality in the wake of this tragedy. ♪ knnow i see ♪ >> reporter: a community reeling after authorities say dewayne craddock opened fire on his colleagues. >> it's awful. being in charge of someone else's kids so close to something like that. >> when you wake up, it's still a reality. we live in a nightmare. some of these.45 caliber handguns going floor by floor at the municipal building where he worked for the past 15 years firing at those in the way. he was killed by police in gunfire. >> these people are gone because of some imbecile who wants to show somebody how many cartridges he can go through. >> reporter: this 2017 photo posted to its facebook page praised his team. the family posting a handwritten sign on the door of their home sending their heartfelt condolences to the victims. right now there are about 40 investigators with the fbi that are combing through this massive crime scene. that investigation still ongoing. it's sprawling across the three floors. we learned today of the four people taken to the hospital, one has been leased but the other three are still in criticalcondition. trevor alt, abc 7 news. >> so many questions remain. thank you. developing news. four people are hurt after an out of control cruise ship ram into a dock and tourist river boat in venice. the ship was unable to stop the momentum and plowing into the dock. the ship had a mechanical problem as it was docking. the company says it is cooperating with authorities to figure out what happened. top italian officials have called for cruise ships to be banned from using the canal. time now is 9:33. a child's remains found inside a black trash bag could be those of 4-year-old maleah davis. the texas girl has been missing since april 30th. he confessed during a jailhouse conversation with a community activist that he dumped her body there. >> one thing he wanted to make clear to me was what happened to maleah was an accident. he said it was an accident. he confessed to me where he dumped her >> he initially told ga investigators she was abducted. he was later seen being dropped off at the hospital in that same car which police found days later abandoned in a parking lot. they arrested vince and charged him with tampering with evidence. on a lighter night, record breaking jeopardy champ has raked in more than $2 million on the show. we're learning he is sharing his new found wealth with the community. he lives in las vegas. an organization there dedicated to helping students dropping out of school posted this photo saying he donated $10,000. he also made a donation to the las vegas natural history mu sem -- museum. so far he's participated in 31 episodes. for work, he's a professional sports gambler. according to the examiner, the bond could go up to $845 million. it was proposed at 800 million. the money would pay for the performing arts and education center and repairs to coampusec. tech lovers will be gathering at the san jose convention center for apple's word wide developers conference. the week long event starts monday and is expected to unveil new iterations of apple's operating system. it will include a dark mode making the screen easier to see in low light. bloomberg is reporting the company will coil kill its 18-year-old i teitunes platform. jerry west is president trump's pick as the next recipient of the presidential medal of freedom. he chose him for his outstanding career on and off the court. he was with the organization for six years before signing a contract with the clippers two her part to help our military veterans with therapy animals. abc 7 news anchor has the story of hounds helping heroes. >> this is jim. i like jim. he's really -- >> jim is a very sweet dog. >> he's cute. >> reporter: bonnie joe is on a mission. she founded nonprofit hounds and heroes to pair service or therapy animals with veterans. her goal is to lift the spirits and morale of wounded veterans by saving dogs making this a rescue mission. in essence saving two lives. >> there will purebred dogs that come through the shelters but also these mutts end up being fantastic dogs for these vets. >> every dog that is rescued and goes into the hand offense a new o -- hands of a new owner is giving them new life. >> reporter: marine combat veteran john suffers from post-traumatic stress. his brother michael did too. michael died by suicide three years ago. john believes a service animal definitely would have been helpful to his brother. >> it's an avenue he was afraid to speak about. it was a stigma him do brk and also police and o firefighters. we're trying to change this. i think the service animal is a step to do that. the love of an animal, you can't beat that. >> reporter: which is why they worked tirelessly to pick the perfect animals for vets. >> i have a disability through my service, ptsd, due to msd, military sexual trauma. >> reporter: it's difficult for veterans like kim to talk about what they are going through. having a pet can be especially comforting. kim has a therapy cat. camden but she's hoping a dog will help her meet people and ease her anxiety. hounds and heroes partnered with animal control which may have just the dog her. >> once aew potentialogs, heak a ma ralph comes in. he's the director of canine training for hounds and heroes. >> you like kim. >> reporter: he thinks 3-year-old mia might be a match for kim because of the dog's energy and enthusiasm. >> a sign of a service dog, we want to make sure it's a good energy mix. it's more about temperament and energy. it's no such much the breed. do they have the same activity level. >> reporter: clearly there's chemistry. it will take time to determine if these two are meant to be together but kim already thinks mia may be the one. i bet if you were to ask mia, she'd agree. >> hounds and heroes pays for the dog training, vet care and food for life so the veteran doesn't have to take on brighter. we have the low clouds but around the bay they are scatt scattering out. closer to the coast we are look for some mist and drizzle out there because we have a cooler second half to your weekend. in fact, with that taller marine layer looking at that fog that was all the way into the east bay earlier and now beginning to peel back so temperatures won't be as warm but we do have summer like warmth tomorrow for tuesday and into wednesday. right now temperatures are looking like this with upper 60s out towards brentwood. 59 in novato. you have the clouds there and 61 san mateo. the sea breeze coming into play as well. as we look at the winds here our abc 7 room camef camera, yes th blowing. the marine layer shrinking and compressing. that will allow for the quicker warm u p.ur all over the bay area warmg ing up. as we get into a pretty nice afternoon today, it depends on if you're close to that fog bank. if you are, then you get the breeze. here we are by about 12:00. we have a brief time where we're going to get some sunshine at our beaches. the fog quickly wants to move back into the san mateo coast. it will shrink down a bit. high pressure will build in compressing that marine layer. as we look at the temperatures spread in santa rosa over the n next seven days here is the trend. we're below average at 72 getting to where we should be for your monday. it's warm on tuesday and wednesday. dropping off again on thursday and friday but then it looks like warm up by the end of the week into next weekend. here is another look at the trend. how about the south bay. 77 is the average high. you're around that today. a little bit cooler because yesterday you were 81. climbing on monday, mid-80s tuesday and wednesday and the cooler days thursday and friday. in the south bay today, the rest of you enjoying mid-70s closer to sunnyvale. santa cruz just 61. 62 for you in san francisco. cool in daily city with some sun at 60 degrees. looking at about 72 today, santa rosa. sonoma heading up to wine country. mid-60s by the water. get the crazy winds at the coast. close to the deck of low clouds. upper 50s there. 70s around the bay. getting warmer tomorrow. staying
