Warned that iran or its proxies were possibly planning an attack on American Forces in the region and sent that Carrier Strike group and bombers as a show of force and just yesterday after a british general commanding troops in iraq told reporters that there has been no increased threat from iranian backed forces, u. S. Central command issued a highly unusual rebuttal saying that the generals comments run counter to the identified Credible Threats available to intelligence from u. S. And allies regarding iranianbacked forces in the region and centcom said they have raised the Security Posture in iraq to a high level of alert due to possibly imminent threats to the more than 5,000 forces in iraq. It is very rare they would make that announcement publicly, george. That is rare, martha, but there is also some concern inside the government, inside iraq that some of these threats may be hyped and echoing concerns to the first iraq war back in 2002 2003. The British Foreign secretary trying to deescalate the situation, calling for a period of calm on both sides, worried about a miscalculation that would send us into war. Of course, this has back a campaign issue, joe biden saying that the president has no foreign policy. And the president dismissing those reports that the pentagon had drawn up plans for 120,000 u. S. Troops saying it could be far more. Reporter exactly. After first denying there was a plan for 120,000 troops if we were attacked, the president then said there would be many more than that. Now, george, also to that breaking news overnight, alabama lawmakers passing what could become the most restrictive abortion law in the country. Steve osunsami has the details. Abortion would be criminalized in alabama, made a felony and the way the law is written, it would punish doctors who perform them with up to 99 years in prison. The only exception would be if the mothers life were in danger. House bill 314 passes. Reporter its the nations most restrictive antiabortion measure outlawing abortion in almost every case including rape or incest and this morning it heads to alabamas antiabortion governor for her signature and she is expected to sign it. I apologize to the women of alabama for this archaic law we passed. Reporter the bill was passed by a vetoproof majority in the state legislature who are mostly men, and they fought so bitterly that at one point, the debate had to be suspended. Supreme court hoping that odds are now better that todays highest court will overturn the 1973 decision of roe versus wade which legalized abortion nationwide. In the audio recordings you can hear the pilots pleading with boeing to take more action to prevent an accident. Our Senior Transportation correspondent david kerley has the details. David, this comes ahead of a House Committee hearing on the planes today. Reporter yeah, its coming up in just a couple of hours. Members of Congress Want to know whats going on with that 737 which is grounded after those two deadly crashes, and how the faa certified that aircraft. This coming on this morning after this heated conversation, American Airlines pilots asking months ago to boeing officials why didnt they know about this new Flight Control system. We flat out deserve to know whats on our airplanes. I dont disagree. Reporter the tapes reveal this morning the frustration bordering on anger of pilots from the pilots Union Meeting just weeks after this max crash when the world learned that a new system could nose down the aircraft and may have contributed to the crash. This is the first time we have heard part of that heated conversation. Were the last line of defense to being that smoking hole and we need the knowledge. Reporter the tapes shared with Media Outlets including the New York Times quoting the Vice President of boeing at this november meeting saying, the worst thing that can ever happen is a tragedy like this and the even worse thing would be another one. But there was a second crash less than five months later in ethiopia. The boeing engineers trying to explain back in november why they didnt announce that new system to pilots. I dont know that understanding this system would have changed the outcome on this. A million miles, youre going to be maybe fly this airplane and maybe once youre going to see this ever. So we try not to overload the crews with information thats unnecessary so they actually know the information that we believe is important. Reporter at the time boeing issued a bulletin to airlines about this new system called mcas. Pilots taped the meeting because they were concerned about the safety of the 737 max 8 and they didnt feel like boeing was sufficiently answering their questions or giving them as much information as they wanted. Reporter boeing told airlines it was working on a software fix for the system. The american pilots pushing for boeing to issue a second bulletin calling for that software fix. But the upgrade was apparently not ready at the time. We want to make sure were fixing the right thing. Yeah, i get that. Thats the important thing, to make sure were fixing the right things, but we dont want to rush and do a crappy job fixing the right things and we also dont want to fix the wrong things. Reporter now, boeing did not comment on this conversation back in november. Only saying that it is working with its customers and regulators to get the 737 max back up in the air and, robin, it is the acting head of the faa who will be on capitol hill later this morning. Investigators tell me theyre going to take a hard look at both companies involved. It comes as were learning more about the victims. They range in age from 39 to 56. They were all out for an adventure when something went tragically wrong. Overnight, hopes were shattered in a community known for its strength. The coast guard just found two more bodies bringing the death toll to six after two float planes collided in midair. The larger of the two quickly began to sink where it was. Reporter the wreckage of the smaller plane is flipped upside down. Its floats jutting out of the ice cold water. A chilling reminder of the fatal crash that took place in the alaskan wilderness about eight nautical miles outside of ketchikan. We just kind of channeled back and forth, zigzagging around trying to look for anybody that would be trying to survive out there. Reporter jake bower, a volunteer firefighter combed the rugged shore line looking for survivors, but found parts of both planes instead. Its the part of the job that you dont look forward to. Reporter the ntsb now has a go team on the ground. What are some of the things youre looking into that could be the cause of this . Were looking at a number of factors. Reporter that includes the weather and both pilots histories. Abc news confirmed one, Randy Sullivan was killed. Both planes filled with passengers from the royal princess cruise ship. The larger plane was just returning from the majestic Misty Fjord National Monument when it crossed that fatal path with the smaller plane. The question now is why . To help answer that question the ntsb went to the scene overnight. Theyre hoping to release a preliminary report sometime in the next two weeks, george. Will carr, thanks very much. We go to the capitol now where Senate Investigators have reached a deal with the president s son don junior to testify about the russia investigation. Wonder what that means exactly. Meantime, on the house side, the House Intelligence Committee is now investigating Trump Lawyers for possible obstruction. He told lawmakers that these lawyers close to the president had helped him to craft false testimony regarding that trump tower deal in moscow. Now the committee wants to know if these lawyers helped to obstruct their investigation. Theyre demanding testimony and documents, but these lawyers are making it clear they do not plan to comply. In this precarious house of cards that is the College Admissions scandal, another key player has been taken down. Laura janke entered a plea of guilty and were learning about the first civil lawsuit arising from this scandal. While the spotlight has been on highprofile actresses and wealthy parents, prosecutors say this woman seen here wearing a hooded windbreaker is 36yearold laura janke, a key witness in the College Admissions scandal. The former usc womens assistant soccer coach entering federal court in boston where she entered a plea of guilty to conspiracy to commit racketeering. Under a plea agreement janke has been cooperating with prosecutors to testify against others about the inner workings with the schemes mastermind admissions consultant rick singer. The disgraced excoach created bogus profiles to help children of wealthy families get admitted into elite universities. Among those i dont really care about school as you all know. Reporter actress Lori Loughlins daughter, olivia jade. Investigators say janke helped create a fake crew profile for olivia jade despite the fact she never participated in crew. Janke is also accused of creating a phony profile for the son of elizabeth kimmel, a las vegas media executive. According to court documents, janke described kimmels son as an elite High School Pole Vaulter despite the fact that his high school has no record that he ever participated in polevaulting or track and field and janke included this photograph in the profile claiming it was kimmels son but prosecutors say it was someone else. Kimmel has pled not guilty to two conspiracy charges. Lori, lori. Reporter loughlin and her husband are also maintaining their innocence in the scandal pleading not guilty to paying 500,000 to get their daughters into usc. A current undergraduate student at georgetown has filed a lawsuit against the university. His father pled guilty to paying 400,000 to bribe the universitys tennis coach. The lawsuit is aimed at preventing georgetown from expelling him or nullifying his college credits. Heres the thing, the lawsuit contends that the university was aware of inconsistencies, but didnt take any disciplinary action until the scandal became public. Well see. Okay. In an exclusive interview the head of the Indiana State Police is sending a new message to the killer of the two girls, and alex perez brings us that from delphi, indiana. Good morning, alex. Reporter hey, good morning, george. Investigators have been searching for abby and libbys killer since they vanished from this trail more than two years ago. Authorities believe theyre one tip, one step away from cracking this case. I think of abby and libby all the time. I have their names etched in my desk. Reporter this morning new details from indianas top cop on the hunt for whoever brutally murdered 13yearold Abby Williams and 14yearold libby german. In a case that has garnered National Headlines for two years now and gripped this Small Community with fear. I want them to know as long as im the superintendent of the state police in indiana were not leaving. Were going to stay there and when we run out of tips well start over again. Reporter in an abc news exclusive Indiana State Police superintendent doug carter revealing investigators received more than 3,000 tips following that Emotional Press Conference in april where he addressed the girls killer directly. To the killer who may be in this room, we believe you are hiding in plain sight. Reporter carter chose that direct approach because he believes the updated sketch he released that day will strike fear in the heart of the killer. I dont believe the individual knew we were going to do that. So it was really, really important and i think that he was probably there and or watching simply because he thought we were on the wrong path. That extra word, what are you hoping that extra word is going to show or demonstrate . Why release that . Somebody has heard him say that before. He just didnt pick that word. He had used it before. He had used it before and it might be just that one word that makes somebody think, gosh, i do know that voice. Reporter whoever that is, he hopes theyll find the courage to come forward. Somebody knows who that person is. If somebody knows something, they need to tell us. I think theyre afraid to is why i think we have not heard yet. Reporter and for that suspect carter warns that the cops already know much more than they can share, and that one tiny clue could bring an end to all of this. We are one tip away from success. We are one tip away, one bit of information away from finding out who this individual is. Reporter and superintendent carter tells me they have received more than 42,000 tips since this all started. He says he thinks about abby, libby and solving this case every single day. George . Okay, alex, thanks very much. Were joined now by former fbi criminal profiler john douglas. John, thanks for coming in. That superintendent seems determined. Thinks hes close. What do you make of his strategy . The strategy is good. He should have done the strategy a long time ago. This case really could have been a solvable case really quick. I learned over the years at quantico and working these cases, you should be releasing information relative to preoffense behavior, postoffense behavior regarding the crime. The tape itself, its not an order hes giving them. It almost sounds like a schoolteacher saying, guys, down the hill or a coach like somebody very familiar. Very familiar. Thats the other thing, familiarity with the area. When criminals perpetrate a crime, theres the thing we call the comfort zone where they dont just perpetrate a crime particularly like this one in an area theyve never been so this person has been there and feels extremely comfortable. It was the victims were lowrisk victims until they decided to go out in that isolated area that morning, and they increased their risk level. On the part of the offender, his risk level was pretty high. This was daylight. This was a park. Its public and there was a really strong chance someone could have come upon him. What kind of profile would you be building based on the information you have and what Additional Information would you need to make it more accurate . Well, what you need is the autopsy protocol, the autopsy photographs, the method and manner of death. You do the victimology, which is important. In this case as i say theyre very, very low risk types of victims. So you have this information and for an age group i usually start off at about mid20s to late 20s. Ive seen that the bureau came out with a range thats way too long from 18 years of age to 40 years of age as a potential suspect. I start in the mid20s and either tack on years or eliminate years based upon either the sophistication of the crime or lack of sophistication, you know of the crime. Lets hope we stay close on this. Those sneaky teenagers, you know, many parents, we try to control our childrens smartphone usage but more and more teens are finding a way to get second devices to use without their parents knowledge. Its parents versus their teens phones. Its become the feud amongst families where teens are looking to have more screen time. No more safe faces for you. You give me your phone. Its roo it there. For many of these kids theres no difference between whats happening online and offline. Reporter but despite what you might think, the end game is not for the dogs to sniff out cancer in people, rather to help scientists perfect an electronic nose that will. It may not look as cute as these snouts but essentially doing the same thing, sniffing for stage one Ovarian Cancer that can only be detected in later stages and scientists hope one day it will do the job even better than these fourlegged friend. Good job, kid. My dream is that dogs confirm that the electronic nose is working and we get that out into hospitals so that thousands and thousands of women can be screened. Reporter dr. Cindy otto is the executive director mean and says while it is possible for a pet to sense certain scans in their owners, a machine can ultimately more reliable. If we can help recognize this cancer early, we will save lives and we just have to get the machines as good as the dogs. Good. And dr. Yeah, you know what, i love about in that is takes something innate in dog, their superior sense of smell and transmits it to Artificial Intelligence and technology. Human brains process most of their sensory input visually. Dogs do it with their nose. You know, 300 million nose receptors in a dog compared to like 5 million for us so its definitely plausible. Theyre smelling things called v vocs, volatile organic compounds in certain types of cancer excreted in bodily fluids and making this in a lab into technology that could potentially add another dimension to screening for cancer. Yeah, so the certain cancers its been looked at and its being intensely researched, prostate, breast, melanoma, bladder, kidney, you know, those are the things that theyre finding there are metabolic changes in the cells of those tumors and if dogs can smell them innately can we develop technology to help us and at early stages, you know how important that. Especially those large exterior outside shots. You cant see the camera so looks like were just chilling or arguing in the street. There are a couple of times in which our characters are having very loud lively conversations in the middle of the street and i love seeing peoples reactions because they couldnt tell if it was real or not and then theyd see us reset and do the same thing over again which made people more confused. Had they dont know that means your acting is superb, by the way. Acting is superb. The thing about this, your chemistry is undeniable.
