i'm amanda del castillo. a mom in palo alto launched an app that helps teens earn money while also learning about the working world. i'm lisa amin gulezian in san francisco where federal agents busted and arrested a pedophile living in this apartment. and exclusive video of the woman accused of impersonating a nanny right after her arrest tonight. abc7 news starts right now with breaking news. >> now from abc7 news, live breaking news. >> and that breaking news is the woman accused of posing as a nanny and terrorizing bay area families for decades. she is now in custody. >> this is exclusive video of 60-year-old mariana monticalvo shortly after her arrest tonight. abc7 news reporter kate larsen is live in kensington with the latest. kate? >> reporter: dan, ama, i've been speaking to bay area families for more than a year who say they have been victimized by mariana monticalvo who says she is a nanny. well, tonight someone recognized her photo on the news, told police about her whereabouts. here in kensington, police arrested her and took her to jail in martinez. >> ms. monticalvo, do you have anything to say? >> reporter: no response from 60-year-old darlene mariana monticalvo, arrested in kensington and on her way to jail. she has a lengthy history of grand theft and check fraud dating back to the '80s. here she is in court in contra costa county in 2004, accused then of posing as a fake nanny who stole from bay area families. >> it is very, very horrifying. it's very scary. it's kept me up at night. >> reporter: this woman is so afraid of monticalvo that she didn't want to be identified. she is a bay area nanny, and says last month monticalvo pretended to be a mom wanting to hire her. she gave her information wanting to verify her credentials, but quickly realized her proposed employer is up to no good. >> i told her straight out, i think you're scamming me. please destroy my documents. she then flipped out on me, accusing me of all kinds of things as if i was the one in the wrong. >> reporter: monticalvo allegedly used the personal information to steal the nanny's identity, and then seen here used the real nanny's good name to interview for jobs with families in search. >> she is prolific is one way to put it. >> officer john corcoran led the investigation. oakland police also have a warrant out for her arrest for felony identity theft and misdemeanor cruelty to child by inflicting injury. >> i consider her dangerous. i wouldn't want her in my house watching my children. >> the alameda county d.a.'s office tells me the cruelty to a child charge stems from an incident last year in which monticalvo led lett an infant boy cry for extended periods of time and forcibly put him down in his crib. she'll be in court tomorrow and next week. live in kensington, i'm kate laenab > e looking fo wirn car evening commute. officers shut down northbound lanes of 880 arounea evidence. it all started when a car pulled up behind chp officers who are already on the side of the road for an unrelated incident. the driver told officers they were shot at on the freeway near san lorenzo. officers found two bullet holes in the car. thankfully no one was hurt. a san francisco man has been busted with hundreds of thousands of child porn images. he was caught with the help of a new cyber criminal lab here in the bay area. it's a story you'll see only on abc7 news. reporter lisa amin gulezian joins us live from the newsroom with more. lisa? >> ama, the feds found him in the excelsior district. he has b sentenced to 15 years in homeland security investigation newly established cyber crimes lab found roughly 200,000 child porn images in joey hernandez's possession. >> maybe that's something in a sexually explicit photo. >> 60% of the lab's focus is on child exploitation cases. it's the only one of its find in northern california, and it helped bust joey hernandez. here is how it all went down. canadian authorities noticed a lot of child porn activity on an ip address. they contacted homeland security investigations here in california. the lab was able to then find the owner of that ip address in this apartment. >> upon making entry to his residence, we found mr. hernandez in bed with an underaged female. >> hernandez was a habitual predator, and filming some of his exploits, and we were able to identify particular areas that he had done that. >> they compared background images and used facial recognition to find victims, and matched a lot to a neighborhood in the excelsior. those who live next door are shocked. >> we would see him every now and then but we didn't really know him or anything. he didn't seem any different than anyone else. >> we've got a granddaughter here. just hear is now out. it appears a mechanical problem was the cause. no one was hurt. gas prices rose across california following a fire at this same refinery in carson, and problems at valero's benicia refinery in march. on the peninsula, hazardous materials experts say there is no danger to the public after radioactive materials were found inside a home in san carlos. sky 7 flew above the neighborhood on cedar street. city officials say the house's resident died earlier this year. his relatives notified the city today after discovering conta containers that appeared to be filled with radioactive material. a state team will remove the items on saturday. new developments. the district attorney of butte county has confirmed pg&e equipment did start the camp fire. the d.a. told the abc affiliate in sacramento investigators have ruled out any other possible origin of the fire. but he says it's too early in the investigation to say if a crime took place. pg&e had said before it was probable that their equipment started the fire. the camp fire killed at least 85 people, making it the deadliest fire on record in california. new at 11:00 tonight, tesla announced it is rolling out two new safety features. they're designed to help when cars drift into the wrong lane. both features kick in when a car leaves a lane but the turn signal is not on. the car will then be guided back into the correct lane. an alert will also go off if it detects hands are not on the wheel. now this comes on the heels of a new lawsuit over tesla's autopilot feature. abc7 news's i-team broke the story this week. the family of walter huang say the tests autopilot steered him into a concrete barrier in mountain view, killing him. tesla has not commented on the lawsuit. the show must go on. today attorney general william barr did not show up for questioning by the house judiciary committee. barr was supposed to testify about the special counsel's report on the russia investigation, as you know. democrats seizing the opportunity to make an example out of him. house speaker nancy pelosi, the highest ranking democrat calling the nation's top law enforcement officer a liar. >> the attorney general of the united states of america was not telling the truth to the congress of the united states. that's a crime. >> house democrats now threatening to holdcontempt, afe appear before the house judiciary committee today. as barr headed to work, democrats seized on the empty witness chair. >> come to order. >> creating their own made for tv spectacle. congressman steve cohn, a tennessee democrat, munched on a bucket of fried chicken during the hearing and flaunted a ceramic chicken to drive his point home. >> chicken barr should have shown up today and answered questions. out. powerful wind gusts turned a celebration into horror at a high school in washington state. a bounce house rose at least ten feet in the air and traveled about 240 feet before stopping. five students were hurt. one is in critical conditio. investigators say the inflatable was inspected just last month. >> gosh. well, part of building a better bay area involves connecting a community. that's exactly what one south bay mother is rying to do with her new app. it allows adults to hire neighborhood teenagers to help tackle various to-do lists. in turn, teens are given invaluable work experience. abc7 reporter amanda del castillo has the story. >> when janet shaw's kids stopped asking for candy bars and started asking for the latest gadgets, she wanted the kids to understand the value of a dollar. >> i had found myself saying over and over when i was your age, i was earning my own money. i was baby sitting. i would never ask my parents for some luxury item like that. >> but shaw says a steady job can be unrealistic for today's teen. with help she launched the teen find job app in 2017. the platform allows teens to earn money doing odd jobs around the community. linda faust uses the app for help around the house. >> the teens have been very dependable. they've showed up on time. they've done t them to do. >> her 16-year-old daughter halle checks the app once a week for work. >> in our neighborhood, being on a busy stream, it's hard to get baby-sitting jobs when there is not as much as a community. >> to access the app, the teens need their parents approval and must submit an additional reference. teens are notify when their teens accept a job and when they arrive to work. job posters must go through a background check to get on to the platform. >> it's a seven-year criminal check, a sex offender check and the county check as well. so they can't see anything on our platform until they've passed that. >> shaw says teen job find is approaching one thousand users, building a better bay area by connecting an otherwise busy community. for now the app is only available to users between sunnyvale and belmont, but there are plans to launch in new
