Can we please, please bring back that will ferrell clip. From snl. Leslie jones making a cameo as condoleezza rice. It is so nice right now considering our Political Climate to just laugh. I wonder whether w. Is laughing. Maybe. Maybe. He seems like a good sport. He seems like a good sport. He can be selfdeprecating. In real life, the current president , donald trump, will deliver the state of the Union Address in just two days. Theres a live shot of the u. S. Capitol where the speech will take place. The stakes are extremely high for President Trump. Hell address the nation at a time of historically low poll numbers. And as a facetoface meeting with special Counsel Robert Mueller may be just weeks away. Theyre saying its a chance for the president to reset. Put the focus on the robust economy and his recently passed tax cuts. The white house says the theme of the event will be building a safe, strong, and proud america. Martha raddatz is standing by in washington with analysis. We begin with david wright at the white house. Good morning, david. Reporter good morning, paula. Good morning, dan. The state of the union is always a marquee moment. A chance for the president to rerack the table and try to set the agenda for the coming year. The white house says this speech will be optimistic, forwardlooking, and bipartisan. But there are challenges to the president s agenda. Mr. Speaker the president of the United States reporter this may be his first state of the union, but President Trump has already proven the format plays to his strengths. His address last year to a joint session of Congress Seen as one of the high points of his presidency. The time for small thinking is over. The time for trivial fights is behind us. Reporter the Administration Says this years speech will focus on five main areas. The economy. Infrastructure. Immigration. Trade. And national security. Trump is expected to make the case that all groups are benefiting from a roaring economy, thanks, he says, to his efforts to cut taxes and deregulate. Steve wynn, would you stand up . Hes raising so much money for our great republican party. Reporter meantime, the president and his party are now facing pressure to distance themselves from one of the Top Republican donors. Casino King Steve Wynn resigned this weekend as the partys finance chair after a wall street journal report alleged he pressured manicurists and massage therapists at his Las Vegas Casinos for sex. Wynn denies the charges, calling them preposterous. The rnc put huge pressure on democrats to return Harvey Weinsteins contributions after his scandal broke. So there are now growing calls for them to treat wynns scandal with equal outrage. I missed you. How are you . How are you . Good to see you. Reporter on the eve of the state of the union, theres this new chummy interview conducted for itv by piers morgan. Winner of the celebrity apprentice. In it, trump addresses the controversy of extremist antimuslim videos, which the british Prime Minister and others sharply criticized. You have a very Good Relationship with your Prime Minister, who i just left. And shes been doing i think shes been doing a very good job. We actually have a very Good Relationship, though a lot of people think we dont. Reporter morgan asked trump if hes gotten his invitation yet for the upcoming royal wedding. Trump says, not that he knows of. But he wishes prince harry and Meghan Markle well. Dan and paula . David, thank you. For more on all of this, lets bring in abcs martha raddatz, who will be hosting this week this morning. Right here on abc. I want to get to the state of the union in a moment but let me ask you about a new report in the Washington Post this morning. The paper says trump has recently been talking about firing Deputy Attorney general rod rosenstein. Hes the official overseeing the russia probe. This report comes just days after trump allegedly ordered the firing of the special counsel himself. Robert mueller only to relent after a Top White House lawyer threatened to resign if he went forward. Did these developments taken in sum bolster the case for obstruction of justice . Well, i think trumps critics will certainly say it does. This is obviously very big news this week. And i think what you have to look at is a pattern. You have to look back and say, look, he fired comey. He wanted Jeff Sessions not to recuse himself. So i think thats something investigators and the special counsel will be looking at. But you also have to look for corrupt intent. And that is the key to obstruction of justice. Theres been lots of legal opinions this week on exactly how Robert Mueller will approach this. Whether it will matter. But hes clearly looking into that, dan and paula. Got to look for the corrupt intent. As you just mentioned. Lets get back to the state of the union, martha. Theres all this talk this morning that the state of the union is a chance for the president to reset. Hit that reset button. Aides say hell reach beyond his base. Attempt for compromise in the speech. Is that possible for him to simply reset . Well, i think not in one speech. He may reset for that one speech, but i think you have to go back again. Will his base love it no matter what he says . They probably will. If hes very calm. If hes very positive. Those who dont particularly like President Trump might look at it and say, what a great speech. But then theyll move on. Or theyll say he was reading from a teleprompter. Other people were telling him what to do. I think youll see a very positive speech from President Trump. I think he likes being before congress. You get lots of applause. Looking at David Wrights piece there and what he was saying when he spoke in front of congress before and saying, we dont want to be divided. Things pass really quickly. Things move really quickly in this town and in this country. They might forget about that speech within a couple of days, even if they like it. The last speech was well received. The news cycle moves incredibly fast. I want to talk about reporting you have done. That well see on your show this morning. You spent the past week visiting all four states along the u. S. Border with mexico at a time when immigration and the wall is such a hot issue. What are people saying to you . Well, first of all, it was just an amazing drive. Its amazing to get up close to what they have already got going now. That border is 1900 miles long. We drove about 700 miles through those states. A lot of people are against that wall. Only onethird of americans support building that wall. We spoke to some border a congressman there, steve pearce. From new mexico. He does not want that wall. Hes a republican. He says it is a big waste of money. Hes seen ultralight airplanes fly over that wall right there and drop drugs on the other side. It is going to cost a lot of money. And to continue that sports analogy. Some of these will be medical audibles. So some lastminute you decisions. There are some basics. We like a child to have no fever for at least 24 hours off medication. Thats Something Like tylenol or ibuprofen. We like them to not have any physical symptoms, like vomiting, diarrhea. If they have strep throat and theyre on antibiotics, we like them to be on antibiotics for at least 24 hours. Remember this isnt just about the patient and the child. If you keep your child home you have to have someone to care for the child. That is often difficult. Its a burden on the parents. Yeah, its a stretch for many families. What can we tell our kids to do . Its a great opportunity to teach our children about certain symptoms, especially the flu because theyre probably hearing about it. We dont want them to be afraid but we want them to recognize what it feels like to have a temperature. Even though they might have a fever, their temperature is high, they might feel cold, have fatigue, headache, body aches. If they have those symptoms, we want them, parent, tea tcare giver. We have to teach them their health comes first. Older children are going to say, i cant miss school. Im learning all of precalculus this week. Your health comes first. What if you have child care . Keep checking in with them and they should be able to tell you, half our class is out. We only have one. No one is sick. They should be able to give you that information. Thank you, jen.
