freezing the face and rob marciano is high above times square at the new year's ball tracking the latest on the bitter arctic blast. good morning, rob. i have to imagine it's really cold from your vantage point. >> it is cold. i mean from your vantage point you could probably see my breath. it's 12 degrees right now. windchill of 2. all i know is that today is colder than yesterday which was colder than the day before that. it's an unnerving trend, that's for sure, and we're not alone here in new york city. look at the map with all the advisories. if it's not cold, it's snow, nearly from the entire -- runs the entire length of the canadian border and the cold is the biggest story as far as what is dangerous here over the next few days right in through the new year. deep freeze, a reinforcing surge of cold air and chicago on new year's eve, minus 7, 30 below for a windchill, 10 below in detroit. 5 below in new york city, maybe 13 or 15 below in boston and if we hit 11 as the ball drops, that would make it the coldest new year's eve in the apple since 1962. this 12-foot, 12,000-pound crystal ball will be dropping regardless of the weather so you just got to prepare for it. dan and paula, back to you. >> rob, as you know better than anyone, you're not the only one suffering in the cold there. that deep freeze affecting millions across america. multiple cities registering temperatures at record lows not to mention record snowfall. alex perez is in buffalo, new york, where it feels like minus 1. alex, good morning to you. >> reporter: hey, good morning, dan. and it feels even colder than that here along lake erie with the wind now. take a look. there is snow and ice building everywhere. it has been a long, relentless week for millions. overnight, dangerous, slippery roads in over a dozen states sending drivers spinning, their cars careening into ditches. >> she's going again. she's done. >> reporter: heavy snowfall causing whiteout conditions, 200 million americans now trapped in a deep freeze. the brutal cold already deadly. two people in chicago killed by hypothermia. >> extreme weather is more than an inconvenience, it remains a serious and potentially life-threatening event. >> reporter: police crews in that city using fire torches and brute force to de-ice manhole covers. in the northeast, temperatures are 15 to 30 degrees below normal freezing this fountain in philadelphia. ice trapping boats in this harbor in maine. >> salt water doesn't freeze too easily so you know it's cold. >> reporter: authorities in illinois say the driver of this convertible spun out and collided with this 18-wheeler splitting the semi truck in half. and in erie, pennsylvania, plows forging a path through 65 plus inches of snow, and there's no relief in sight. areas that are already buried in snow now bracing for another foot by the weekend. paula. >> incredible that there's more snow on the way. alex, thank you. we want to move now to that deadly four-alarm fire claiming at least 12 lives in new york including a 1-year-old child. you're looking live at the scene right now. this was the worst fire the city has seen in 25 years, more than 170 firefighters responding to the blaze in the bronx, and abc's eva pilgrim is at the scene with the latest on the investigation. good morning to you, eva. >> reporter: paula, those fire victims forced out into this bitter cold. many of them rushing out without coats, jackets, gloves. it is freezing out here and firefighters also having to battle this fire in these temperatures. those firefighters now going through this building doing their search and recovery effort. the firefighters got here in three minutes. but for many of the people inside, that was not fast enough. 170 firefighters rushing to battle the deadliest fire in new york city in more than 25 years. >> we have a scene here in which 12 people have died, and 4 are fighting for their lives. >> reporter: cpr performed as victim after victim removed on gurneys. >> based on the information we have now, this will rank as one of the worst losses of life to a fire in many, many years. >> reporter: the blaze began at 6:30 p.m. when thick, black smoke swept through the five-story building. inside these apartments an apocalyptic scene. parents screaming for help. children crying. so many unable to get out. >> this is the worst fire tragedy we have seen in this city in at least a quarter century. >> reporter: the only thing not destroyed, the building's exterior. at least three dead from the same family. >> burned. they were burned. even little kids on the stretchers burned. it was crazy. >> reporter: in one apartment a mother found in a bathtub clutching her baby, both deceased. >> i came out through the window. >> you came out through the window? >> yeah, there was smoke everywhere already. >> reporter: this resident managed to reach the fire escape leaving his phone and wallet able to grab just a blanket. he was better off than many here who were forced to flee their homes with no coats or shoes, the red cross rushing to provide warmth to the stunned survivors. no word on the cause of the fire. investigators will be looking at why this fire spread so quickly. one of the things they'll be looking at is the possibility that the fire burned into a natural gas line, fueling the flames. dan. >> a lot of questions. just a horrifying story, eva. thank you very much. we move on to the tight security in times square where as we mentioned a million people are expected to ring in the new year. abc's gio benitez with that bird's-eye view of how the nypd is preparing for the biggest party of the year. gio, good morning to you. >> reporter: hey, dan, good morning to you. listen, times square is empty right now, but it's not going to be like this in just a couple of days. i want you to look right now at that high angle camera. more than a million people are going to be here in this plaza out here in times square and this massive effort is underway to keep this place safe. this morning, abc news getting a firsthand exclusive look at the nypd's intense security for new year's eve. we met up with the three police chiefs heading up efforts in the air, on the ground and underground. unique attacks like the concert shooting in las vegas and the subway bombing changing how police operate. >> each one of them has added a new dimension of preparedness. >> reporter: for the first time police will screen people going into restaurants and hotels in times square. we flew above it with the head of counterterrorists. what are your pilots going to be looking for on new year's eve from the air? >> so they're going to be able to provide an overwatch for the commanders, the decision makers. >> reporter: quickly identifying threats. >> instead of just counting floors there is a system in place where we'll be able to identify quickly if we're on the 12th floor or 22nd floor of a building. >> reporter: more than a million people will come here but police are now closing off a wider perimeter than ever before because here we're in times square but this is the destination. people are coming from all over. >> right. we actually work with other agencies like amtrak and the long island railroad and we do a lot of coordinated efforts with them, with other stations and other boroughs. >> reporter: above ground snipers will be stationed on building rooftops. also keeping a watchful eye, cameras, 10,000 of them. the police commissioner giving us a rare look. >> it will be people from the state police, the fbi, there will be people from amtrak, new jersey transit, from any agency you can think of will be in that operation center that night. >> reporter: and back here live in times square, we should tell you that all bags and umbrellas will be banned on new year's eve. if you're coming out here this weekend, just be patient. it will take time getting in. they are really limiting the entrances here. dan, paula. >> be patient and dress warmly. gio, thank you. >> yeah, thanks, gen. we want to move to president trump on his busy working vacation in florida talking to "the new york times" about the russia investigation saying it, quote, makes the country look very bad, and abc's david wright is in west palm beach with more on this for us. good morning to you, david. >> reporter: good morning, paula. the president is making headlines here with this interview with "the new york times." they caught up with him at the clubhouse for his golf resort here in palm beach and he told them no fewer than 16 times that there was no collusion between his campaign and the russians and about the investigation itself, he said it makes the country look bad, it makes the country look very bad and it puts the country in a very bad position. the administration had hoped all of this would be wrapped up by year's end. but as the clock now ticks down to new year's eve, that does appear to have been wishful thinking. the president now says he has no idea when it will wrap up but he added ominously he has absolute right to do what he wants to do with the justice department. now, after months in which the administration seemed to be doing everything possible to undermine the investigation, questioning their integrity and calling it a witch-hunt some were worried he was looking for a pretext to fire him but he appeared to back away from that saying he thinks mueller is a fair guy that will treat him fairly. paula. >> all right, david, thank you so much. interesting, dan, that interview with "the new york times" just casually happened after a round of golf, after he ate lunch. no aides around. casual interview. >> absolutely. and a lot to discuss from that interview, so let's bring in abc news political analyst matthew dowd. matthew, good morning to you. the president's allies as you know have been railing against mueller, the special counsel, for weeks. now trump says, however, that he expects to be treated fairly by mueller, so how do you reconcile that? >> well, we could probably spend the full two hours of "good morning america" today going through the conflicting statements of donald trump and trying to reconcile them. you can't reconcile it, those two things. i mean, i think it's good that the president said that we cant. i'm sure democrats like that he said this but i think donald trump defines that he trusts bob mueller in the way that he says as long as he finds me innocent or my family innocent. if bob mueller starts getting close to jared kushner or donald junior or the president, i think donald trump's tune will vastly change. >> another news-making comment from this interview, the president conducted the interview with "the times" just hours after sending out a tweet in which he said the chinese had been caught red-handed shipping oil into north korea. trump then told "the times" he'd been soft on china on the issue of trade in hopes of getting their cooperation on north korea. he's now hinting that all may change. do you think this kind of implicit threat is likely to work with china? >> well, it hasn't worked yet, donald trump made a series of threats through the campaign in 2016 and at the beginning of his presidency that -- what he was going to do to china. the problem is china is in a very powerful position and hold a large part of our debt, the united states' debt. so they're in a position of strength in the middle of this. i don't think the president wants to get in a trade war. i don't think he wants to get in a situation where he pushes back too hard on china, so i don't think those words will change any dynamic of this and it's still a position where north korea still has to be solved by a multi-national group of countries coming together. >> such a pressing issue among many. matthew dowd, we appreciate your analysis as always. happy new year to you. back to you, paula. >> thanks, dan and thanks, matt. and now to a family suing alaska airlines after their wheelchair-bound mother tragically fell down an escalator while they say she was supposed to be accompanied by airline personnel. we do want to warn you this video is disturbing. abc's clayton sandell is in denver for us this morning. good morning to you, clayton. >> reporter: good morning. you're right. that video is hard to watch. bernice kekona was supposed to be taking a flight home. instead she took a nasty fall. her family is blaming alaska airlines and a contractor but nthis morning the airline is fighting back. this is the shocking moment that bernice kekona's family say that ultimately killed her, the 74-year-old in her wheelchair tumbling down an escalator head first. >> it could be somebody else's grandma, mom, sister that this could happen to which is just neglect. >> reporter: in this video you can see kekona's wheelchair, it weighs several hundred pounds on top of her. fellow travelers at the portland international airport scramble to lift it. a call alerting her family she had been rushed to a hospital. >> i yelled on the phone at her what the hell is she doing at the bottom of the escalator. >> reporter: kekona was flying from maui to spokane last june connecting through portland. her family said alaska airlines was required by law to escort kekona to her next flight, but they claim huntleigh, usa, a company alaska contracts with to provide gate-to-gate service abandoned her. >> after being seated in her wheelchair, they walked away and bernice became confused and she pulls up to the escalator thinking she's getting on the elevator at that point. >> reporter: kekona's family says the fall left her bedridden in constant pain for the next three months. she died in september. they are now suing huntleigh, usa and alaska airlines. >> it's not going to bring her back obviously but someone needs to own up. someone needs to take responsibility. >> reporter: alaska says we're heartbroken by this tragic and disturbing incident saying it appears that ms. kekona declined ongoing assistance in the terminal and decided to proceed on her own to her connecting flight and that when her family booked the reservation, they did not check boxes indicating she had any impairments like trouble seeing or hearing. >> i just hope that, you know, we get justice for my grandma. >> reporter: as for that contractor, huntleigh, usa, the ceo told me overnight they are investigating the facts of the case along with their lawyers. dan, paula. >> that video is tough. clayton sandell, thank you very much. we want to move now to that surprising apology from apple after multiple lawsuits were filed. the tech giant admitting to secretly slowing down older model iphones, and abc's senior national correspondent matt gutman is in los angeles with more on what apple is calling, a, quote, misunderstanding. good morning to you, matt. >> reporter: good morning. turns out consumers weren't just imagining things. some of their iphones really were slowing down. apple apologizing to its consumers over that sluggish iphone function claiming its deliberate slowdown of older model iphones was meant only to preserve them writing first and foremost we have never and would never do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any apple product or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades. the company says about a year ago it quietly installed software through updates that would intentionally slow functionality of some phones during peak workloads meaning when you use your phone most. the problem is they didn't clearly tell that to consumers. paula. >> so apple is facing possible class action lawsuits but they're trying to make things up to their customers. how so? >> reporter: that's right. next week apple said they'll start slashing the prices of replacement batteries from 79 to 29 bucks. the company says it's also planning to roll out a software update that will show consumers when their batteries are on their last legs. often that's all that needs to be replaced in an older phone to make it work better. >> not sure if that will be enough for some consumers. matt gutman, thank you. i think a lot of people had that issue and they're probably wondering or now realizing that's what was going on it's almost as if if you win 4 or $5 million, it's not enough. you want to win the whole thing. >> it would be enough for me. also happening right now, take a look, a live look at a frozen lake erie as 2017 closes out with a historic arctic invasion. the new winter storm warnings for the holiday weekend and the snow in many places just won't quit. cities already buried and also this morning a 27-year-old suspected boat prowler was caught fleeing from police and he sped off a pier in astoria, oregon in a truck and into the freezing water. the man is recovering after being treated for hypothermia. >> yeah, we do want to begin, though, with singer joy villa, who has filed a sexual assault complaint against former trump aide corey lewandowski. we're going to talk to ms. villa who famously wore that make america great again dress to the grammys. there she is standing by but first abc's stephanie ramos has her story. good morning, stephanie. >> reporter: paula, good morning. that complaint against former trump aide corey lewandowski stemming from a party that went down right here at trump international hotel. this morning, one of president trump's biggest supporters, former trump campaign manager corey lewandowski is facing a police investigation into an allegation of sexual assault. singer joy villa who wore a make america great again dress to the grammys tweeted this picture saying it was taken in november, seconds before she says lewandowski slapped her rear end not once, but twice. she wrote, i was shocked and embarrassed by his behavior. lewandowski now a contributor with the fox business network was asked about the allegations. >> i'm not here to speak for joy but what i am here to do is speak for me and what i am going to do is let the process play forward. >> reporter: overnight new allegations that villa may have done a similar thing to what she is alleging lewandowski did to her. the website the wrap publishing this video of villa at a party. she can be seen here pretending to smack a man once before her hand actually lands on his rear end. he appears to laugh and go back to his conversation, but this morning, that man, george harris, tells abc news he met villa that night for the first time and that slap was not consensual. as for the incident with lewandowski, villa says all she asks for is an apology, paula. >> stephanie, now i am here with joy villa. joy, thank you for coming to the studio and sharing your story. we will talk to you about that video we saw in a moment but let's start. you posted a photo on twitter that you say was taken just moments before the alleged incident with corey lewandowski. can you tell us what happened? >> yes, so, you know, i was at a party, it was a private party and it was at the trump hotel and i had met corey lewandowski for the first time, someone introduced me to him, a good friend who is a witness to the incident and we were sort of ushered into a photo together and he was very drunk and after the photo that i posted, he smacked my behind really hard and i told him no, stop. that's not okay, and i said, i could report you for sexual harassment, and i'm looking at him thinking, he must realize this is inappropriate, like there's witnesses, this is a public space. it's a safe place. >> and he didn't? >> no, because he said, go ahead. i work in the private sector and he continued. he actually did it again even harder. >> he actually did it twice. you never got an apology and did confront him but this happened right around thanksgiving. why did you wait till now to come forward? >> it's a good question. for me the reasons most women don't come forward. i was scared. i thought i don't want to cause any ruckus or create any bad press based around the president. this has nothing to do with him but i'm an avid supporter. corey is an avid supporter. we play on the same team. and also i am gearing up for a potential congressional run. >> right. >> and in politics as a woman, it's already a hard atmosphere and he has a lot more power than me. >> you didn't want to create a war within the republican party but you met with detectives. you filed what you thought were going to be a sexual harassment complaint but they told you, the detective said this was sexual assault. did that surprise you? >> it did. it really did because i thought it was sexual harassment and when i described the incident to the detective, she said this qualifies as sexual assault and no one deserves to be touched when they say no and the person keeps touching them. so, that's where the assault comes in. and i was very much surprised. i mean, i've tried not to make it a big deal. and really just to say this is what i want to do. i want to report this and i want to move on with my life. >> okay, corey lewandowski told fox business, quote, there is due possess and that he also wants to let the process play forward, so you said you haven't heard from him. what do you want to happen and are you willing to press charges even if that means he faces a criminal investigation? >> i would rather not go there. i really want an apology. i really want -- >> you would be okay with just an apology? >> it's a hard situation because this is a crime that was committed against me, and when i talked to the detectives yesterday, it was a three-hour, you know, process. it's a very grueling process. you tell your story over and over again. they answer questions -- they ask questions, and they had to remind i'm not on trial because you feel like it's such -- it's such a big deal for a woman to come forward and talk about it. >> right. >> but for me really what i -- i want this to be resolved in a manner that all of us can come out feeling good about it. i don't want to keep dragging his name through the mud. and keep the press going on. >> i want to talk about that video that we showed in the piece because there is a video going around right now that shows you playfully slapping another man's behind. his name is george harris. he says that it was not consensual. in the video you can hear him say, take it easy, behave. how is what corey different than what you did to george? >> well, for one thing, he didn't say stop or no. and when he said take it easy -- and i was being stupid. it was at a party in las vegas and i did stop. and if i offended george, you know, i totally apologize and i made it clear, i reached out to his best friend and talked it over and said, listen, if this offended you, i'm sorry. i own up to it. that's wrong and that's what we have to do to make sure we have a safe environment. we have to say i'm sorry. and if he had said no, i definitely wouldn't have gone and done it again. and when he said take it easy, i stopped. it was a joke. it was funny and if he has offense it's up to me to say i'm sorry. >> so you're willing to apologize to him? >> absolutely. >> i've got to ask. you said you're an ardent supporter of the president. you want people to believe your story but do you believe the women that -- the many women that have accused the president of sexual assault and sexual harassment? >> what i want is for justice to be served. and you did ask me if i would press charges or, you know, have the crime go further than this, right now there is an investigation. it is a crime and that is something that i had to come to terms with, a crime was committed against me, so it is, i do agree with mr. lewandowski, it is in the hands of the justice system but for him to say i'm sorry -- >> but do you side with the women that have accused the president? >> i can only side with something that has happened to me. >> your own experience. >> this is my own experience. i also want to say that any woman who has had that experience needs to come out and talk about it and needs to file and needs to make sure that the due process does go in because it is at a point your word against theirs. you don't have to go public like i have. it's sort of gone out of proportion sometimes. i think, you know, it distracts from a lot of the other things i'm doing. a possible congressional run. >> you said that's still in the cards. >> absolutely. >> as a republican. >> this is not going to stop me, absolutely. i'm a proud republican. and what corey did has nothing to do with the president. he doesn't work for the president anymore. has nothing to do with the republican party. has everything to do with his actions and he must take responsibility for that and that is what this is about. if we take responsibility we apologize, we can make our community safer. >> all right, joy villa, thank you so much for sharing your story this morning. >> thank you very much. >> we appreciate it. dan. >> paula, thank you. coming up, what you need to check in your car before you hit the road in this bitter, bitter cold. keep it here. looking to lose weight this year? >> for the closet we only wear 20% of our clothing in the closet. that's what the studies show. if we're honest we can all agree. >> i wear the same pants and sweatshirt every day. >> we all do. if you try to figure out what to get rid of, this is a great technique. this is the hanger flip technique. if all your hangers are facing one way, when you wear one piece, you return it to your rack facing the other way so give it three to six months, whatever hasn't flipped, those are the pieces you're not wearing. you can donate or toss those or do whatever you like with them. >> that's a good way to figure it out. folding. if there's only one thing you take away from it, it is this. this has saved my life. the marie kondo folding -- >> yes. you're a huge marie kondo fan. vertical fold something huge. so start with your shirt up. the drawer in the bottom is super dirty and messy which is probably what most of ours looks like. the top is really neat. you fold it a third and third and nice and neat and you stack it vertically. >> i don't know if you can see this. >> we were just saying if you have kids this is great. they can see everything and they're not shoving everything back in. >> it saves so much time. >> should we make room for this? >> we'll shove it right in. >> you only have to fold them once. >> in the kitchen, i open my cabinets and things fall out. >> i was the same way. >> please save me. >> so this really helps me. so the idea of just using simple bins, these are from target. they're $7.99 and grouping items into the bin so everything isn't falling out like it normally does in ours. the bins really help and the kids can help put stuff away. another great tip here is with these little airtight containers. now, the one thing i had a problem with, some of them can be 20 bucks and really expensive. we found these at ikea for $2.99 to $3.99. >> that's great to know. >> you just pour it in. nice and easy and get rid of the bulky packaging. >> and the kids can use it as an instrument if they want to. >> there you go. multi-functional. >> this gets me so excited to see all these little clear containers. now you're a mom of three. >> yes. >> we both have three children. not together but we have three children. i have a room full of bins of their artwork and their projects from school. i don't know if all of you face this dilemma as well. i don't want to get rid of them but they've taken over an entire room of my house. >> i totally hear you. you're either the mom that saves everything or throws everything out. >> i do. >> so you want to be somewhere in between. i love this. this is from plum prints. if you can go in there and open up the drawer. >> you have a surprise for me? >> there is a little surprise. so plum prints is a service you send in your pictures, even actual crafts and artwork. what they do is take pictures and as you can see here is the picture and make this beautiful sort of coffee table book that you can keep. >> i'm going to cry. >> and then you don't feel bad for getting rid of all your kids' -- >> this all has become a coffee table book. >> that gets rid of tons of artwork. >> in the home office we all have one. >> wire central, yes. so a great diy technique is to get these little commando hooks and stick them along the side of your desk and run the wires through it and you can't see them. >> these are just little command hooks? >> yes. you just pull right off if you want. you don't have to keep them on forever and won't damage your desk. another great tip, with your router or modem, just pop it into a box like this for $2.99 from ikea. cut out the back as you can see here for ventilation and then once you turn it around, you can't see -- looks like a decorative box. >> oh, my gosh. i just need to give you a hug and feel like i shed a lot of stress. melissa garcia, thank you very much. >> thank you. so cute, right? [ applause ] and for somebody who's been participating in this event for 12 years, what is your favorite moment? >> well, there's so many great moments. there's so many unexpected moments. one of which was last year when mariah was on stage and she's coming back to do it again but for me every year that dick clark did this show with me, i'd come in, he would be inside. i'd come in about 12:20 a.m. and he would look me in the eye and say something, sometimes make fun of me, sometimes wish colder weather upon me. other times give me a hug. well, dick, i think you're getting your wish this year. >> he's looking down from heaven. >> this arctic weather. >> no kidding. >> i'm trying to think what the coldest year was since you've been hosting. 2008. >> nothing like this. i've had it pretty easy and, you know, i've lived in southern california for so many years i'm now in new york full time. so i'm getting used to it and kelly ripa would always say to me -- it was warm, wasn't it, rob? unseasonably warm. >> last year was 44. >> even this year was warm until it dropped like that. >> and she would always say it changes overnight and it does. >> i don't know if you ever get used to it. i grew up in the midwest in the cold and now i'm out here. i don't know if you ever -- doesn't matter if you came -- >> i came home for christmas and we were away for a week or so and i got back and there was -- the heat was broken in the house and so for the first night we slept with no heat. it's one of the things you don't think about when you live in southern california. check to see if your climate control is working but now i've learned my lesson. >> welcome to new york city. let's talk more about the show. any surprises, anything that will be different this year? >> well, i think -- >> besides the red riding cape that he's going to wear. >> besides my trip to nana's. >> who wore it best? >> i think with this show it truly is the largest event that i'm a part of that's televised because of the scale, the size, the different performances and the ball dropping. you know, last year we had an unexpected moment with mariah. she's come back. we're so excited about that. >> that's awesome. >> i was a youth pastor for 15 years so i think i just for a long time was speaking to young people so maybe i still speak their language. so i don't know. i'm a pastor's kid and grew up in church. i think we're just trying to do the best job we can of making it relevant and making it a message people can understand. >> and you're making it fashionable. zoe church out in california. you guys have created your own line of skater-friendly gear to sell. >> hoodies and hats. i think people love to rock what they love. they love to represent that and so i just figure people love church. let's put them in some church merch. >> church merch. >> yeah, church merch wearing a hoodie and someone can say what's that from? it's from my church. >> it's a way to start a conversation. let's talk about your new book, "faith forward future." it's about moving past hardships and disappointments, something your family experienced firsthand. you have your fourth child on the way with your beautiful wife but your daughter georgia was diagnosed with a rare brain disorder at just 4 months old. how did that rock your family? how did your faith get you through it? >> i think, you know, you're not aware of anyone else's pain until you have pain. so this was the first time for my family that we went through something like that and to have a diagnosis like that, it was our first born. i think it really started for us to make us realize what do we believe in and how are we going to have hope against hope. and so we made a decision as a family, we're going to be positive about it and try and let this little girl be a message of hope, of inspiration rather than just being defined by this diagnosis. >> and you see people wearing that hope and inspiration. >> yeah. >> like people have -- celebrities have had "g" for georgia tattooed on their arm. celebrities and just regular old people. that means a lot. >> it's wild. i was at a mall in oklahoma city and this group of girls, ten college girls run up to me and say, hey, we got the "g" tat for your daughter. and i'm just -- it's mind-blowing to think people are supporting this little girl. it's amazing. >> it really is. you write about the need to -- i love this -- stop holding on to your history at the expense of your destiny and as we look forward we're talking about new year's's resolutions and looking forward to 2018. what is your number one tip or encouragement to carry into 2018? [ applause ] first up we have chloe who is about to graduate college. she wants a fresh look as she starts her career in the new year. this was chloe before. there we go and now let's see chloe's new look. takisha, what did you do to her hair? >> well, chloe is actually wearing the leona lewis hairstyle. and what i did, i just pulled it back into a sexy ponytail and added texture by using the in styler curling iron and it's no fuss waves and just brushed it out and here she is with lots of texture. >> for makeup we were inspired by naomi campbell's look and did a warm smoky eye using urban decay's naked palette and from there we used the same lip glosser from laura geller as the highlight and it gives it that modern look. >> how do you feel? >> i love it. it looks great. >> you look like a million bucks. as she enters -- ooh, i just dropped my cards. let's move on, ladies. okay, number two, we have erica. erica hasn't been on the dating scene in a couple of years but she wants to get out there and get her groove back in 2018. this is erica before. now let's see erica's new look. whoo! [ applause ] i love it. ladies, tell us what you did. takisha. >> so erica is wearing a kerry washington hairstyle, which has lots of texture, fun, modern and i love it because it changed her look. i added some volume to her hair by adding in the tsv hair extensions and put conditioner in her hair and pulled it out and here she is. >> her makeup. i love the lip. >> this is one of the most requested looks at glam squad, which is a red lip but wanted to make it more modern so used urban decay's lipstick with that metallic finish. it can last all night even to that new year's kiss. >> what do you think? do you see love in 2018? >> fabulous, baby. >> as you said earlier, you got to own it and be confident. finally this is jenny. jenny is a full time working mom of two. kudos to you, jenny, by the way, starting a new job and wants to update her look. this is jenny before. and let's see jenny now.
