This video shows it approaching the island, and now its heading toward puerto rico where they are warning of catastrophic damage. Of course, it is not the only storm. Also watching another hurricane, jose, as it moves towards the northeast. Watches and warnings from virginia to maine. Lots of concerns about coastal flooding. Lets not waste any time. And President Trump has just arrived at the United Nations. Well pause here so the rest of the network can join us. Announcer this is an abc news special report. Now reporting, george stephanopoulos. That is the scene in the hall where the president will be. He just rooied at trump tower expecting some tough talk today on iran and north korea. The indication that i have heard from Top White House officials, this will be a very tough message on north korea urging the world to isolate north korea and reminding them there is a military option if diplomacy fails. The president trying to galvanize the world, and he is threatening to pull out of the iran agreement. Lets listen to the president. Distinguished delegates, welcome to new york. Its a profound honor to stand here in my home city as a representative of the American People to address the people of the world. As millions of our citizens continue to suffer the effects of the devastating hurricanes that have struck our country, i want to begin by expressing my appreciation to every leader in this room who has offered assistance and aid. The American People are strong and resilient, and they will emerge from these hardships more determined than ever before. Fortunately, the United States has done very well since election day last november 8th. The stock market is at an alltime high, a record. Unemployment is at its lowest level in 16 years, and because of our regulatory and other reforms, we have more people working in the United States today than ever before. Companies are moving back, creating job growth the likes of which our country has not seen in a very long time, and it has just been announced that we will be spending almost 700 billion on our military and defense. Our military will soon be the strongest it has ever been. For more than 70 years in times of war and peace, the leaders of nations, movements and religions have stood before this assembly. Like them, i intend to address some of the very serious threats before us today, but also the enormous potential waiting to be unleashed. We live in a time of extraordinary opportunity. Breakthroughs in science, technology and medicine are curing illnesses and solving problems that prior generations thought impossible to solve. What each day also brings news of growing dangers that threaten everything we cherish and value. Terrorists and extremists have gathered strength and spread to every region of the planet. Rogue regimes represented in this body not only support terrorists, but threaten other nations and their own people with the most destructive weapons known to humanity. Authority and authoritarian powers seek to collapse the values, the systems and alliances that prevented conflict and tilted the world toward freedom since world war ii. International criminal networks, traffic drugs, weapons, people, forced dislocation and mass migration threaten our borders and new forms of aggression exploit technology to menace our citizens. To put it simply, we meet at a time of both immense promise and great peril. It is entirely up to us whether we lift the world to new heights or let it fall into a valley of disrepair. We have it in our power should we so choose, to lift millions from poverty, to help our citizens realize their dreams and to ensure that new generations of children are raised free from violence, hatred and fear. This institution was founded in the aftermath of two world wars, to help shape this better future. It was based on the vision that diverse nations could cooperate to protect their sovereignty, protect their security and promote their prosperity. It was in the same period, exactly 70 years ago, that the United States developed the martial plan to help restore europe. Those three beautiful pillars, they are pillars of peace. Sovereignty, security and prosperity. The martial plan was built on the noble idea that the whole world is safer when nations are strong, independent and free. As president truman said in his message to congress at that time, our support of european recovery is in full accord with our support of the United Nations. The success of the United Nations depends upon the independent strength of its members. To overcome the perils of the present and to achieve the promise of the future, we must begin with the wisdom of the past, our success depends on a coalition of strong and independent nations that embrace their sovereignty to promote security, prosperity and peace for themselves and for the world. We do not expect diverse countries to share the same cultures, traditions or even systems of government, but we do expect all nations to uphold these two core sovereign duties, to respect the interests of their own people and the rights of every other sovereign nation. This is the beautiful vision of this institution, and this is the foundation for cooperation and success. Strong, sovereign nations let diverse countries with different values, different cultures and different dreams, not just coexist, but work side by side on the basis of mutual respect. Strong, sovereign nations let their people take ownership of the future and control, their own destiny, and strong, sovereign nations allow individuals to flourish in the fullness of the Life Intended by god. In america, we do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone, but rather to let it shine as an example for everyone to watch. This week gives our country a special reason to take pride in that example. We are celebrating the 230th anniversary of our beloved constitution, the oldest constitution still in use in the world today. This timeless document has been the foundation of peace, prosperity and freedom for the americans, and for countless millions around the globe whose own countries have found inspiration. In its respect for human nature, Human Dignity and the rule of law. The greatest in the United States constitution is its first three beautiful words. They are, we the people. Generations of americans have sacrificed to maintain the promise of those words. The promise of our country and of our great history in america, the people govern. The people rule, and the people are sovereign. I was elected not to take power, but to give power to the American People where it belongs. In foreign affairs, we are renewing this principle of sovereignty. Bringing the power from its people to our citizens. To ensure their safety, preserve their rights and to defend their values. As president of the United States, i will always put America First, just like you as the leaders of your countries will always and should always put your countries first. [ applause ] all responsible leaders have an obligation to serve their own citizens, and the nation state remains the best vehicle for elevating the human condition. But making a better life for our people also quirrequires us to together in close harmony and unity to create a more safe and peaceful future for all people. The United States will forever be a great friend to the world, and especially to its allies, but we can no longer be taken advantage of or enter into a onesided deal where the United States gets nothing in return. As long as i hold this office, i will defend americas interests above all else, but in fulfilling our obligations to our own nations, we also realize that each and everyones interest to seek a future where all nations can be sovereign, prosperous and secure. America does more than speak for the values expressed in the United Nations charter. Our citizens have paid the ultimate price to defend our freedom and the freedom of many nations represented in this great hall. Americas devotion is measured on the battlefields where our young men and women have fought and sacrificed alongside of our allies. From the beaches of europe to the deserts of the middle east, to the jungles of asia, it is an eternal credit to the american character that even after we and our allies emerge victorious from the bloodiest war in history, we did not seek territorial expansion or attempt to oppose and impose our way of life on others. Instead, we helped build institutions such as this one to defend the sovereignty, security and prosperity for all. For the diverse nations of the world, this is our hope. We want harmony and friendship, not conflict and strife. We are guided by outcomes, not ideology. We have a policy of principled realism, rooted in shared goals, interests and values. That realism forces us to confront the question facing every leader and nation in this room. It is a question we cannot escape or avoid. We will slide down the path of complacency, number to the challenges, threats and even wars that we face. Or do we have enough strength and pride to confront those dangers today so that our citizens can enjoy peace and prosperity tomorrow . If we desire to lift up our citizens, if we aspire to the approval of history, then we must fulfill our sovereign duties to the people we faithfully represent. We must protect our nations, their interests and their futures. We must reject threats to sovereignty from the ukraine to the south china sea. We must uphold respect for law, respect for borders and respect for culture, and the peaceful engagement these allow. And just as the founders of this body intended, we must Work Together and confront together those who threaten us with chaos, turmoil and terror. The scorch of our planet today is the rogue regimes that violate every principle on which the yieUnited Nations is based. They disrespect their own citizens and the sovereign rights. If we do not confront the wicked few, then evil will triumph. When decent nations become bystanders to history, the forces of destruction only gather power and strength. No one has shown more contempt for other nations and for the wellbeing of their own people than the depraved regime in north korea. It is responsible for the starvation deaths of millions of north koreans, and for the imprisonment, torture, killing and oppression of countless more. We were all witness to the regimes deadly abuse when an innocent American College student, Otto Warmbier was returned to america only to die a few days later. We saw in the assassination of the dictators brother, using banned nerve agents in an international airport. We know it kidnapped a sweet 13yearold japanese girl from a beach in her own country to enslave her as a language tutor for north koreas spies. If this is not twisted enough, now north koreas reckless pursuit of Nuclear Weapons and Ballistic Missiles threatens the entire world with unthinkable loss of human life. It is an outrage that some nations would not only trade with such a regime, but would arm, supply and financially support a country that imperils the world with nuclear conflict. No nation on earth has an interest in seeing this band of criminals arm itself with Nuclear Weapons and missiles. The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy north korea. Rocket man is on a Suicide Mission for himself, and for his regime. The United States is ready, willing and able, but hopefully, this will not be necessary. Thats what the United Nations is all about. Thats what the United Nations is for. Lets see how they do. It is time for north korea to realize that the d denuclearization is its own future. The United States held two unanimous 15 to nothing votes, against north korea, and i want to thank china and russia for joining the vote to impose sanctions along with all of the other members of the security council. Thank you to all involved, but we must do much more. It is time for all nations to Work Together to isolate the kim regime until it ceases its hostile behavior. We face this decision not only in north korea. It is far past time for the nations of the world to confront another reckless regime, one that speaks openly of mass murder, vowing death to america, destruction to israel and ruin for many leaders and nations in this room. The iranian government masks a corrupt dictatorship behind the false guise of a democracy. It has turned a wealthy country with a rich history of culture into a economically depleted rogue state whose chief exports are violence, bloodshed and chaos. The longest suffering victims of irans leaders are, in fact, its own people. Rather than use its resources to improve iranian lives, its oil profits go to fund hezbollah and other terrorists that kill innocent muslims and attack their peaceful arab and israeli neighbors. This wealth which rightly belongs to irans people, also goes to shore up Bashar Al Assads dictatorship, fuel yemens civil war and undermine peace throughout the entire middle east. We cannot let a murderous regime continue these destabilizing activities while building dangerous missiles, and we cannot abide by an agreement if it provides cover for the eventual construction of a nuclear program. [ applause ] the iran deal was one of the worst and most onesided transactions the United States has ever entered into. Frankly, that deal is an embarrassment to the United States and i dont think you have heard the last of it, believe me. It is time for the entire world to join us in demanding that irans government end its pursuit of death and destruction. It is time for the regime to free all americans and citizens of other nations that they have unjustly detained. And above all, irans government must stop supporting terrorists. Begin serving its own people and respect the sovereign rights of its neighbors. The entire world understands that the good people of iran want change, and other than the vast military power of the United States, that irans people are what their leaders fear the most. This is what causes the regime to restrict internet access, tear down satellite dishes, shoot unarmed student protesters and imprison political reformers. Opressive regimes cannot endur foreve forever, and the day will come when the people will face a choice. Will they continue down the path of poverty, bloodshed and terror . Or will the iranian people return to the nations proud roots as a center of civilization, culture and wealth where their people can be happy and prosperous once again. The iranian regimes support for terror is in stark contrast to the recent commitments of many of its neighbors to fight terrorism and halt its finance. In saudi arabia early last year, i was greatly honored to address the leaders of more than 50 arab and muslim nations. We agreed that all responsible nations must Work Together to confront terrorists and the islamic extremism that inspires them. We will stop radical islamic terrorism because we cannot allow it to tear up our nation and indeed to tear up the entire world. We must deny the terrorists safe haven, transit, funding and any form of support for their vile and sinister ideology. We must drive them out of our nations. It is time to expose and hold responsible those countries who support and finance terror groups like al qaeda, hezbollah, the taliban and others that slaughter innocent people. The United States and our allies are working together throughout the middle east to crush the loser terrorists and stop the reemergence of safe havens they use to launch attacks on all of our people. Last month, i announced a new strategy for victory in the fight against this evil in afghanistan. From now on, our security interests will dictate the length and scope of military operations. Not arbitrary benchmarks and timetables set up by politicians. I have also totally changed the rules of engagement in our fight against the taliban and other terrorist groups. In syria and iraq, we have made big gains toward lasting defeat of isis. In fact, our country has achieved more against isis in the last eight months than it has in many, many years combined. We seek the deescalation of the syrian conflict, and a political solution that honors the will of the syrian people. The actions of the criminal regime of Bashar Al Assad including the use of chemical weapons against his own citizens, even innocent children, shock the conscience of every decent person. No society can be safe if banned chemical weapons are allowed to spread. That is why the United States carried out a missile strike on the air base that launched the attack. We appreciate the efforts of the United Nations agencies that are providing vital humanitarian assistance in areas liberated from isis and we especially thank jordan, turkey and lebanon for their role in hosting refugees from the syrian conflict. The United States is a compassionate nation. And has spent billions and billions of dollars in helping to support this effort. We seek an approach to Refugee Resettlement that is designed to help these horribly treated people in which enables their eventual return to their own countries, to be part of the rebuilding process. For the cost of resettling, one refugee in the United States, we can assist more than ten in their home region. Out of the goodness of our hearts, we offer Financial Assistance to hosting countries in the region, and we support recent agreements of the g20 nations and we seek refugees to find homes as close to their countries as possible. This is the safe, responsible and humanitarian approach. For decades, the United States has dealt with migration challenges. Here in the western hemisphere, we have learned that over the longterm, uncontrolled migration is deeply unfair to both the sending and the receiving countries. For the sending countries, it reduces domestic pressure to pursue political and economic reform, and drains them of the Human Capital necessary to motivate and implement those reforms. For the receiving countries, the substantial costs of uncontrolled migration are born overwhelmingly by citizens whose concerns are often ignored by both media and government. I want to salute the work of the United Nations in seeking to address the problems that cause people to flee from their homes. The United Nations and African Union led peacekeeping missions to have invaluable contributions in stabilizing conflicts in africa. The United States continues to lead the world in humanitarian assistance, including famine prevention and relief in south sudan, somalia and Northern Nigeria and yemen. We have invested in Better Health and opportunity all over the world through programs like pepfar which funds aids relief. The president s malaria initiative, the global help security agenda, the global fund to end modern slavery and the woman entrepreneurs finance initiative, part of our commitment to empowering women all across the globe. We also thank [ applause ] we also thank the secretary general for recognizing that the United Nations must reform if it is to be an effective partner in confronting threats to sovereignty, security and prosperi prosperity. Too often the focus of this organization has not been on results, but on bureaucracy and process. In some cases, states that seek to subvert this institutions noble aims have hijacked the very systems that are supposed to advance them. For example, it is a massive source of embarrassment to the United Nations that some governments with egregious human rights records sit on the u. N. Human rights council. The United States is 1 out of 193 countries in the United Nations, and yet we pay 22 of the entire budget and more, in fact, we pay far more than anybody realizes. The United States bears an unfair cost burden, but to be fair, if it could actually accomplish all of its stated goals, especially the goal of peace, this investment would easily be well worth it. Major portions of the world are in conflict, and some, in fact, are going to hell, but the powerful people in this room under the guidance and offices of the United Nations can solve many of these vicious and complex problems. The americans hope that one day soon the United Nations can be a much more accountable and effective advocate for Human Dignity and freedom around the world. In the meantime, we believe that no nation should have to bear a disproportionate share of the burden, militarily or financially. Nations of the world need to take a bigger role in promoting secure and prosperous societies. That is why in the western hemisphere, the United States has stood against the corrupt destabilizing regime in cuba and embraced the regime of the cuban people to live in freedom. My administration recently announced that we will not lift sanctions on the cuban government until it makes fundamental reforms. We have also imposed tough, calibrated sanctions on the socialist maduro regime in venezuela, which has brought a once thriving nation to a total collapse. The socialist dictatorship of Nicolas Maduro has inflicted terrible pain and suffering on the good people of that country. This corrupt regime destroyed a prosperous nation by imposing a failed ideology that has produced poverty and misery everywhere it has been tried. To make matters worse, maduro has defied his even people, stealing power from their elected representatives to preserve his disastrous rules. The venezuelan people are starving, and their country is collapsing. Their Democratic Institutions are being destroyed. This situation is completely unacceptable, and we cannot stand by and watch. As a responsible neighbor and friend, we and all others have a goal. That goal is to help them regain their freedom, recover their country and restore their democracy. I would like to thank leaders in this room for condemning this regime and providing vital support to the venezuelan people. The United States has taken important steps to hold the regime accountable. We are prepared to take further action if the government of venezuela persists on its path to oppose the authoritarian rule on the venezuelan people. We have strong and healthy trade relationships with many of the latinamerican countries gathered here today. Our economic bond forms a Critical Foundation for advancing peace and prosperity for all of our people, and all of our neighbors. I ask every country represented here today to be prepared to do more, to address this very real crisis. We call for the full restoration of democracy and Political Freedoms in venezuela. [ applause ] the problem in venezuela is not that socialism has been poorly implemented, but that socialism has been faithfully implemented. [ applause ] from the soviet union to cuba to venezuela, wherever true socialism or communism has been adopted, it brings devalue. The ideologies only contribute to the continued suffering of the people who live under these cruel systems. America stands with every person living under a brutal regime. A respect for sovereignty is also a call for action. All people deserve a government that cares for their safety, their interests and their wellbeing, including their prosperity. In america, we seek stronger ties of business and trade with all nations of good will, but this trade must be fair and it must be reciprocal. For too long, the American People were told that mammoth multinational trade deals, unaccountable International Tribunals and global bureaucracies were the best way to promote their success. But as those promises flowed, millions of jobs vanished and thousands of factories disappeared. Others gamed the system, and broke the rules. In our great middle class, once the bedrock of american prosperi prosperity, was forgotten and left behind, but they are forgotten no more, and they will never be forgotten again. While america will pursue cooperation and commerce with other nations, we are renewing our commitment to the first duty of every government, the duty of our citizens. This bond is the source of americas strength, and that of every responsible nation represented here today. If this organization is to have any hope of successfully confronting the challenges before us, it will depend as president truman said, some 70 years ago, on the independent strength of its members. If we are to embrace the opportunities of the future and overcome the present dangers together, there can be no substitute for strong, sovereign and independent nations. Nations that are rooted in their histories and invested in their destinies. Nations that seek allies to befriend, not aenemies to conquer, and most important of all, nations that are home to patriarch patriots, to men and women who are willing to sacrifice for their country, for their citizens and for all that is best for the human spirit. In remembering the great victory that led to this bodys founding, we must never forget that those who fought for these evils also fought for the nations that they loved. Patriotism led to poles to die, to save poland. The brits to stand strong for britain. Today, if we do not invest ourselves, our hearts and our minds in our nations, if we will not build strong families, save communities and held thalthy societies for ourselves, nobody can do it for us. We cannot wait for someone else, for faraway countries or far off bureaucracies. We cant do it. We must solve our problems to build our prosperity, to secure our future, or we will build vulnerable to decay domination and defeat. The true question for the United Nations today, for people all over the world who hope for better lives for themselves and their children, is a basic one. Are we still patriots . Do we love our nations enough to protect their sovereignty, and to take ownership of to their futures . Do we revere them enough to defend their interests, preserve their cultures and ensure a Peaceful World for their citizens . One of the greatest american patriots, john adams, wrote that the American Revolution was affected before the war commenced. The revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people. That was the moment when america awoke, when we looked around and understood that we were a nation. We realized who we were, what we valued and what we would give our lives to defend. From its very first moments, the american story is the story of what is possible when people take ownership of their future. The United States of america has been among the greatest forces for good in the history of the world. And the greatest defenders of the sovereignty, security and prosperity for all. Now we are calling for a great reawakening of nations. For the revival of the their spirits, their pride, their people and their patriotism. History is asking us whether we are up to the task. Our answer will be a renewal of will, a rediscovery of resolve and a rebirth of devotion. We need to defeat the enemies of humanity, and unlock the potential of life itself. Our hope is a word and world of proud and independent nations that embrace their duties, seek friendship, respect others and came common cause in the greatest shared interest of all. A future of dignity and peace for the people of this wonderful earth. This is the true vision of the United Nations. The ancient wish of every people, and the deepest yearning that lives inside every sacred soul. So let this be our mission, and let this be our message to the world. We will fight together, sacrifice together and stand together for peace, for freedom, for justice, for family, for humanity and for the almighty god who made us all. Thank you. God bless you. God bless the nations of the world, and god bless the United States of america. Thank you very much. [ applause ] rhetoric there from President Donald Trump, in his first address to the u. N. General assembly. Just over 40 minutes there where the president meditated on the theme of sovereign and being in great peril. We will always put America First as americas president , strongest words, toughest words for north korea in this speech. I want to bring in our chief Global Affairs anchor, Martha Raddatz. He said that the United States is forced to defend ourselves against north korea and they will be destroyed and even used his new nickname for kim jongun, rocket man. Reporter he did, george. These are the strongest words we have seen the president say, and certainly made much stronger because of the setting, because he is speaking in front of the world. These were not off the cuff remarks. This was not a tweet. We talked about the fire and fury comments from last month, but this before the world body saying they would totally destroy north korea, is a very sobering message for kim i dont think jongun, something he is undoubtedly listening to. The ambassador had walked out of the room by the time the president spoke, and the president said the denuclearization, the only option. I want to bring in terry moran in london this morning as well, and as i said, meditation under this theme of strong, sovereign nations and a very unapologetic speech today. Reporter this is revenge of the nations today. This was meant to bring nation state together after they had torn the world apart in world war ii under the umbrella of cooperation. The United States birthed the United Nations and every american president since then has at least paid lip service to this notion of bringing the nations together under the aegis of the United Nations. This was different, and he said something that Vladimir Putin would have said, no question about it, when he said we do not expect diverse countries to share the same cultures, but we expect them to respect the interests of their own people, and sovereign nations. And dictators around the world say the same thing and you will hear those words however President Trump meant them as a license to do what they want to do to their own people. There was also veiled criticism of putin and china when he talked about perveing sovereignty from ukraine to the south china sea. Jonathan karl here. Not only tough words for north korea, but also iran. The president said he wanted to rip up the nuclear agreement, but he has defended it or accepted it to date. That may not be the last word. He didnt say he would rip it up here, but he said something extraordinary. He called the Iran Nuclear Deal an boembarrassment. He called it an embarrassment. Whats fascinating about that is this is an agreement that was negotiated by the previous United States president , barack obama, but also with our strongest allies there in that hall. And he said, that agreement is an embarrassment. We have not heard the end of it. Unclear whether or not he will ultimately do what he threatened during the campaign and rip it up. I would say overall, i would say in many ways this was serious, substantive, and positive speech that included an extraordinary threat. Go back to the north korea to say totally destroy north korea if we are forced to defend ourselves. Absolute terms right there. I want to bring Martha Raddatz back in as well. One of the problems with this idea of ripping up the iran nuclear agreement, not only as jon said, the fact our allies also support it, but the inspectors so far have said iran is abiding by that agreement. Reporter they have, and President Trump has said they are not abiding by the spirit of the agreement, so i think its exactly as jon said. He has until october 15th to decide what hell do about that agreement. I think certainly the iranians know they will be watching very, very carefully if they go beyond as they say, going against the spirit of the agreement. But george, i want to go back again, just quickly to that north korea statement. People do understand that there is a military option the United States could destroy north korea, but not without a great loss of life in south korea and possibly to u. S. Forces as well. This is a very big threat he made. I want to follow that up with terry moran as well because if you read the president s words, he says the conditions for strength we would be forced to defend ourselves and our allies. You could read that to open up a justification for preventive war against north korea. Reporter that is possible, but destroying a nation of 25 Million People, that borders on the threat of committing a war crime. And that is going to be the last word for us right now. Extraordinary speech from President Donald Trump with the United NationsGeneral Assembly today. His first speech to the u. N. General assembly. Well return now to our regular program. Reporter for Good Morning America, Mara Schiavocampo, abc news, new york. Our thanks to mara and senior lets go to robin with her exclusive interview with apple ceo, tim apple ceo tim cook, there he is, live in our studio. His first interview since unveiling the new iphone. The technology he thinks will you have change ourd lives. Earlier this morning, ginger and some kids had a great time a. R. They were playing with various games and people want to know, augmented reality. Its different. Its new. Yep. Its on apple right now, and it will be downloaded later today. Tell us why this is a big deal, tim. This is huge because its the first time that hundreds of millions of customers actually later today hundreds of millions of customers will be able to use a. R. For the first time. So were bringing it to mainstream. If you have got an iphone 6s or later, you have augmented reality today. We made it really simple for developers to design apps with their passion to bring it to everybody. Explain what it is. A. R. . Its taking the Virtual World and overlaying it to physical world, so you saw a demo earlier this morning to position chairs in a living room. We are seeing that right now. Yeah. Its a fantastic way to shop. Its a fantastic way to learn. You might even want to look at your favorite car and actually go in the car, and so you have to do that in a showroom today. You can now do that right from your living room. Its unbelievable. [ cheers and applause ] its funny because now face it. As you are talking about that, were looking at the set and then were looking at how we just saw it. Thats what were seeing right now, and then when we have the demonstration earlier, it shows such a difference. Now we have to admit, a. R. Has been around for awhile, but apple is putting its stamp on it. What are you doing differently . Were taking the complex and making it systempimple. Okay. This is what apple is so fantastic about. We want everybody to be able to use a. R. , and we have taken the complexity normal developers would have to do in their apps and made it simple for them to convert their apps to an a. R. Experience. The thing thats very different about apple is in one day, we can make a. R. Available for hundreds of millions of people. And that will happen in a few hours from now. Just get ready for the download. When it comes and said to download, that will happen on your phone. This is a day to remember. This is a day to remember. This is a profound day. Lets talk a little bit about the the 8 and 10 the two new phones and options that are part of pit. Facial recognition is getting a lot of recognition. People are saying, what is the possibility they are talking about the potential it could be misused or hacked. Should people be concerned . Not with us. We are about your privacy. We want to protect your data because we know its yours, not ours. And so once you place your face in the phone, its in the phone. Apple doesnt have it. We have encrypted it on your device. You make the decisions about who has it, not us. Were very protective of our customers data because we believe that privacy is very important in this world that there are hackers everywhere trying to steal your information. We want it to be yours. It is not ours. That has been the hallmark of apple from the beginning. And we fought very hard for it. The headphone jack, gone. Now the home button gone. You said there is a premium on the phone, and whats next . Why the home button . It is loved, but we think having an edge to edge display, such that the whole phone is a display will be loved even more. And so were doing that for all of us. Okay. Well, we have a couple of questions from our viewers, but i want to ask you one question though. Your response to when President Trump announced he was going to change the laws that protect d. R. E. A. M. Ers, daca, and you mentioned to your beloved apple employees there were 250 d. R. E. A. M. Ers you had, and you encouraged them and said you were dismayed and now the president seems to be willing to at least compromise with the democrats, are you encouraged by that at all . I am. Its really important for everybody to understand. These folks came to the country when they were very young. Most of them dont want even remember coming to the country because they were 1, 2, 3 years old at the time. And these kids, if you talk to them, they deeply love this country. They have great jobs. They pay taxes. These guys are our neighbors. They are our coworkers and so we feel its essential that we not only allow them to stay in our country, but we welcome them. That we desire that they be here. I hope everyone reaches out and meets some of the d. R. E. A. M. Ers because it will really warm your heart in meeting them, and so i am encouraged that congress will pass a law to make this permanent, and we are doing everything we can to advocate for that. Its good that were having this dialogue. Thank you very much for discussing that. Back to the phone, and the questions from they didnt hold back. You know they never do. You knew this was coming. I understand inflation, et cetera, but dont you find the price tag out of reach for the average american . Well, its a value price actually for the technology that you are getting, and as it turns out, you know, most people are now paying for phones over long periods of time, and so very few people will pay the price tag of the phone initially, and most people actually trade in their current phone, and so that reduces the price further, and some carriers even throw in, you know, subsidies and discounts. So when we look at it, the phone the iphone in particular has become so essential in our daily lives, people want it to do more and more and more, and so we built more and more technology and to be able to did thao that. You said, you dont want to sell the most. You want to sell the best. Apple has never been about selling the most of anything. That is not aour objective. Its not revenues. We have to enrich peoples lives and help people. I know you do. Can more than one person use facial recognition on the same phone . Kids and spouses for instance . Thats a good question. I wouldnt recommend that. I wouldnt recommend that. No. Okay. So just leave it at that. I wouldnt recommend that. Steve jobs, when you had your announcement last week, you got really emotional. His dna is still so much apart of apple. I walked in the theater that day, and from the moment i walked in there i know this may sound strange to your viewers, but i could feel him there. His dna is very much the dna of apple. And the way that his philosophy of life is how we run the company. We dont sit and think about what would steve do, but we think about the principles that apple is based on. A values based company that is making insanely great products that are simple to use for the technology to take the backseat and not the front seat. The User Experience is top for us. We want users to be happy. And so this Company Still runs like that today. Yeah. And you can feel him in there. You can feel him in the products, and in everything. And i love it that way. Very grateful and appreciate your passion and creativity of you and your team. Get ready for that download. A. R. Its coming for you phone. Youre going to love it. Check it it. Okay. Tim cook, thank you very much. Always a pleasure. Thank you. [ applause ] [ applause ] hi. Good morning. Im Jessica Castro from abc7 mornings. Making headlines, unfortunately the bay area reaches another record high for congestion on the roads. In fact, its an 80 increase since the year 2010, which means the average person is spending an extra 3 1 2 minutes sitting in traffic compared to last year. Dont like that. They sure dont. Looking at my traffic maps seeing a lot of red. A lot of folks sitting in that extra 3 1 2 minutes this morning. Some good news on the peninsula, northbound 101 around willow road approaching state route 84 in the palo alto area, a twocar collision is cleared but heavy there northbound 101 and westbound 84. San mateo is barely moving as well. Well. Meteorologist mik our collaboration with pg e is centered around public safety. Without pg es assistance, well. Without their training meteorologist mik we could not do our mission to keep our Community Safe. Anytime we are responding to a structure fire, one of the first calls you make is for pg e for gas and electric safety. Its my job to make sure that they have the training that they need to make the scene safe for themselves and for the public. Its handson training actually turning valves, turning systems off, looking at different wire systems all that training is crucial to keeping our Community Safe and our firefighters safe. Together, were building a better california. A cooler start today and drier, breezy on the roads especially up in the hill bus those breezes will come down and get the rest of us. Small craft advisory out at the bay today. Cold front, light showers tonight, some sprinkles tomorrow afternoon. Jessica . Mike, thank you. Another update in about 30 minutes. Wonderful. Wonderful to have you all here and michael, it was great to see you out there on the field with your teammates ten years ago the super bowl champion new york giants. Yes. Ten years. [ applause ] time really flies. It was great to see those guys. I havent seen most of those guys in ten years so great to catch up with everybody. Big night. Coach coughlin came in. Hes running the jacksonville jaguars, but he came back to show his love to the city and the fans are just amazing here. It was nothing like winning that super bowl because it was kind of improbable that we had a chance so great to see the guys, great to be a part of it and it kept me up past my bedtime. It was worth it. It was worth it. But thank you. Coming down the line holding you know, i had to tell the guys, touch this trophy. You earned it. You earned it. Speaking of bedtime i dreamed who here remembers your dreams . I do. You do . I do. Yeah, im like my man, yeah, i think i do but im going to bring something to you, everybody, right now. Theres something in a new article in time magazine. It looks at the different theories why we dream and one theory is dreams are a data dump. Just dumping all that stuff thats in your head throughout the day, useless memories, to keep the important ones. Another theory says your dreams represent your wishes, what youre hoping for. And who has dreamt of flying . You almost fell off that chair back there. [ laughter ] shes so embarrassed. You are so red right now. Well, if you my man there hes dreamt of flying and gave us a demonstration. Well, you know what that means. What does it mean . What does it mean . Oh, look at the cameras, too late. If youre supposed to be at work youre fired. Dreaming of flying means that you need to be free of something. Ooh. So it got me thinking, why dont we see if you have any idea what some of these common things that occur in your dreams really mean. So with some research and we went deep into this. Well test your knowledge. What does it mean if you have a dream that you are back in school . What does it mean . Yeah. What do you think it means if you have a dream that youre back in school . Theres something you havent finished. I have that dream a lot. Yeah . That i havent gone to class all semester long and then its the final and im panicking. You know what it means . What . Youre connected to your job. Youre connected to your job . Are you sure . I thought it meant Something Like unfinished. Okay. Okay. Im connected to my job, ladies and gentlemen. What does it mean if you dream about a dog . It means the dog came into your bed. That wasnt a dream. That was reality. Loyalty. Loyalty. You know, thats good. Loyalty and friendship. Yeah, come on. You know that. Her little dog is running around backstage right now. I know. What does it mean not that youre flying but if you dream of airplanes . I dont know but i do dream about that. Because were always on them. I know. I dont know what it means. It means a journey for which you have high hopes. Oh, okay. Yeah. Okay. This is all positive stuff. Dont be scared. Im not scared. Anyone ever dream about a baby . Ali did last week. What does it mean . Your wife dreamed about a baby . Oh, george, congratulations. It means something new. Dont worry. Something new. I wouldnt mind a baby. Thats the thing. You want another baby . Too late. Never too late. And finally, one of my favorite dreams, what if you dream about food. Yum. Dont try to read it. Trying to cheat on the test. What if you dream about food . Youre hungry. Youre hungry. Thats what i thought too. It means energy, knowledge or nourishment. What does that mean . I dont know. Hey, i just read certain times dont ask me questions about what im talking about. This is one. No followup rule. Someone was tweeting me and i got a lot of tweets. People said they have the dream of their teeth falling out. I looked that one up. Brush your teeth. It means fear of aging. Okay. Yeah. Getting older and aging . Thats a very common dream. Really . I dont have that dream. I didnt have that dream. I had that reality. All right. Thank you, guys. Now to all the excitement in the ballroom, season 25 of dancing with the stars premiered last night and weve got dancing pro season 15 mirror ball champ tony is here. [ applause ] hi. There you go. There you go. No, no, no. George. Skip the dip. Nice to see you. Hello, baby. Nice to see you. How you doing, man. Congratulations on last night. Thank you. You did awesome. I think season 26 well see lara spencer out there after that. No. I would love to see these two out there. Oh, would you . You know, ive been like begging you to do the show. I know but id love to see these two out there. Yes. George is pretty busy with political interesting things. We just got finished with that dream segment. That will be a dream. I was looking at that and my whole life ive been pretty much dieting and when you retire guess what you do, diet because you cant eat. True. I love this. This is a good look on you. My wife likes me with a beard. Thats all that matters. You said youre retiring though. Are you sure . Sometimes we see the dancers take a break and come back. Listen, i love the show. Its one of my favorite shows that, you know, even as an audience member so i enjoy it at home and my 12yearold daughter said something really interesting to me. She said, watching the show, she says, daddy, you know, do you miss it . I go, well, i do miss it. She goes, but do you love being home, right . I go, absolutely. So thats the most important part. Last night. What really caught you . What were the emotions . It was amazing. [ applause ] i thought the show did such a fantastic job on presenting all the stars. I thought victoria was the breakout for me with val. I thought that was such an amazing, you know, background story. Paralyzed and then shows up on the ballroom floor. Thats amazing to me. I dont think anything could ever surpass that as far as a first week kickoff. Going into last night you thought nick was the frontrunner. Yeah, i totally yeah, no. He did not do very well for me considering drew is his brother, i thought he would have, you know, pretty much the same genes. Obviously he got the hype but not the beat. Oh, man. Listen, good thing is the trophy might stay in the same family because vanessa was my biggest surprise. Because i thought her and maks looked fantastic. The routine was great. Very creative with the babies and the strollers and the whole thing and then she got on the floor and mama could shake it. That didnt surprise me. She had like personality and so on. I like her. Im rooting for her. I was surprised with that. In fact, the one that really like i was pleased to see because my expectation was pretty high was jordan. Jordan fisher. To me i mean this kid is a disney kid, broadway kid. I was like, all right, lets see what you got and i was like, wow, hes good. Hes a pro. He is. When i saw ginger this morning she was talking about the same thing, saying that he was head and shoulders above everybody else. How about an underdog . I was surprised and pleased actually in so many ways frankie. I think he did such an emotional [ applause ] you know, it was an emotional type of thing. You could see like he was getting shy. The fact is it was wonderful. I thought it was really great to watch him kind of shine, you know, because hes been on tv all his life and just to see him get on the dance floor and really represent himself in such a wonderful way. He was excited about it. He really was. We have a special surprise question from an audience member. Where is that audience member . Oh, there he is right there. Everybody. [ applause ] mr. Donald driver himself. Whats your question, sir, since you are a dancing expert. Champion. Let me say this, we know that im probably the best athlete thats ever been on that show. Oh. But i have to say this to you, tony. Do you think athletes make great dancers . Absolutely. I think because not only because they are actually rhythmically much better in a sense that they work out with rhythm. You have to have rhythm in order to have a good workout and build yourself up. As an athlete you are used to the workout regimen. When you come to a dance show like ours if you dont have a work ethic youre not going to make it. Thats why athletes always do well. They do have a work ethic. Its why theyre obviously successful, michael. Get you there. But you are definitely one of the fittest by far the fittest i believe weve ever had. For sure. Oh, boy. Oh. There. Remember. What a loaded question. Thats all im going to say. You can see a new episode of dancing on monday 8 00, 7 00 central on abc. We got more of donald coming up. Plus the cast of lego ninjago they are here live. Well, before it was even founded, a french teenager, bienville, scared away a british warship with just a story. And Great Stories kept coming. [trumpet playing] some make you move to jazz, funk and bounce. Some of our stories arent quite as straightforward. Blocked by the saints [crowd roaring] while others prove that great things can happen. Even on a monday night. Cause for three hundred years, Great Stories have started the same way. One time, in new orleans. [crowd applause] arrr. Welcome back. Good morning, new world. Ahoy, mateys. Landlubbers, pirates. Im trying to talk like a pirate here. Is it working . You be doing fantastic. Were all doing that because across america, were celebrating National Talk like a pirate day with pirate jordan right here on my left. Ahoy. Its great to have dave franco, welcome dave, justin theroux, olivia munn, fred armisen and michael pena. Thank you all for being here. Are you excited . I dont know about so exciting. I mean, saw you with your legos. How excited are your family members about seeing it . Mine are excited. I play his favorite lego and weve been building it for five years. Well not one thing for five years, but weve been doing Little Things because they have this whole like a tv show for two seasons. Not six seasons apparently. Oh, wow. Thats it. Thats my story, im sticking to it. Well, you know, dave, youre the youngest of three boys. Yep. And your brother is of course james franco, another actor. But i understand your nephews are big into ninjas i mean legos. Yeah, they came to the premiere. I dont know if they are big into legos but they are now. Because of you. Well, one of them is saying hell be the green ninja for halloween so i think i did my job. Get it for free now. Exactly. Good uncle.
