>> announcer: live where you live, this is "abc 7 news." now at 11:00, record-breaking heat. san francisco reached a scorching 106 degrees. >> since record keeping began, this is the hottest ever. >> all parts of the bay area baked in the summer sun. >> i don't like it. yeah, it's -- the air quality is bad. >> making the challenging bay area commute down right unbearable. >> how hot was it on the train? >> i don't have a therm mom ter but probably 120 degrees. >> and the danger isn't over yet. good evenin and thank you for joining us tonight. i'm ama daetz. dan ashley is off. expect more of the same tomorrow. we have live team coverage tonight. let's begin with "abc 7 news" meteorologist sandhya patel. >> this heat wave did not dis-crim nalt. everyone was dealing with the hot weather. san francisco today hottest ever since record keeping began, 106 degrees. shattering the previous record of 103 in 2000. sfo was an all after time record at 104. moffett field tying at 106. we had record ties for the entire month of september, not just today. san jose 108 degrees, oakland airport, 101. 107 kent field and 110 in santa rosa. one other page of records to tell you about. these are daily records. san rafael 109 degrees. richmond 102. 107 in gilroy. santa cruz 105. 111 in hillsborough. in case you wonder how hot it was in other parts of the bay area, hot enough to make you wonder about this blistering heat wave. clover dale 110. a comfortable 107 in half moon bay. excessive heat warning for san francisco and the coast until 9:00 tell tomorrow night. bay shore and inland until 9:00 p.m. monday that excessive heat warning. so this dangerous heat wave is far from done. i will let you know how long it is going to last and where you might be able to beat the heat this labor day holiday weekend coming up. ama we're going to want to know about that. thank you, sandhya. "abc 7 news" reporter tiffany wilson continues team coverage. she is live in san francisco where the record temperature was shattered today and has more on the problems that created. tiffany. >> reporter: ama, the heat wreaked havoc on the evening commute for bart and muni riders. they said it was toughest on the oldest vehicles in the fleet. with more hot weather expect tomorrow, there could be another day of delays. farewell august, steam-tember has arrived in san francisco. >> 106, that's a bit hotter than i thought. >> reporter: commuters heading home for the holiday weekend faced long delays. >> there's always delays when it is hot, and even when it is not hot. >> reporter: those arriving from the east bay shared stories of suffering. >> reporter: how hot was it on the train? >> i don't have a thermometer but probably 120 degree. >> the right here was miserable. the air is barely on, sweating. it was really miserable ride. >> reporter: both bart trains and muni buses struggled to operate in the record-setting heat. >> some of the older electrical vehicles are overheating where the bus connects to the overhead wires. what we're doing is stopping the vehicles, letting them rest for a bit and carry on with service. >> reporter: around the city people struggled to stay cool. many suggested this strategy. >> having a few drinks in a cool bar. >> reporter: normally this playground is packed but tonight nearly deserted. >> i was surprised, shock because nobody was there, but i understand bass they can't play. the slides were too hot. >> reporter: folks at delores park enjoyed the evening breeze. >> we're chilling, vibing. >> reporter: and dreaming will cooler days ahead. in san francisco, tiffany wilson, "abc 7 news." zuckerberg san francisco general hospital saw several cases of heat exhaustion today, somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 patients were treated. most weren't serious, they just needed fluids and had to cool off. among those at risk for heat exhaustion during these hot temperatures, high school athletes. "abc 7 news" katie utehs continues team coverage from pleasanton with how the east bay is dealing with the dangerous conditions. >> reporter: ama, at kickoff it was 94 and that's even with a delayed start time for this high school football game. with high temperatures expected in the triple digits tomorrow, east bay crews are preparing for weather related emergencies. >> i feel like i'm in tucson. >> reporter: this high school football field is more than 800 miles from tucson, but tonight some athletes are battling desert level heat. >> foot hill and san ramon valley cancelled all of their games tonight, so we were wondering, maybe we should have, but it's not too bad right now. >> reporter: pleasanton unified school district delayed the high school game until after sunset. >> whenever the students athletes need a break for water we're going to break for water. it is not even a timeout. >> reporter: alameda county fire is focusing on hydration, too. in anticipation of heat-related calls this weekend. >> i would say we probably surge 10 to 15% on a high heat day over normal days. >> reporter: they've loaded a hydration truck, brought in two dozers in case of wildfires an increased staffing for medical emergencies. >> don't hesitate to call 911. >> reporter: smoky haze is also a concern. >> i think it will be hard on your breathing. you know, it won't be comfortable. >> reporter: forecasters say the haze will linger through the weekend. in the east bay, katie utehs, "abc 7 news" travelers have faced delays at sfo because of the heat. you're looking at people waiting for shuttle buses after hot weather forced sfo's air train system to close this afternoon. air train is running limited service along with shuttle buses collecting terminals and the rental car center. now imagine get married on one of the hottest days of the year. that's exactly would one south bay bride and groom did today. "abc 7 news" reporter katie marzullo will show us how they copied with the heat coming up at 11:14. and we're following breaking news from southern california where a brush fire burned more than 2,000 acres. this is a live picture from the area near burbank. the la tuna fire is burning heavy hillside brush and forced nearly two -- it has closed -- it has forced the nearby 210 freeway to close along with the voluntary evacuationful 200 homes. triple digit temperatures certainly aren't helping. it was 106 degrees in the burbank area today. new at 11:00, firefighters had a hard time getting to a brush fire in san jose, but once they got there they quickly put out the flames. it started near communications hill around 9:20 this evening and burned 1 1/2 acres. firefighters are wrapping up their effort now. tonight harvey is now blamed for 42 deaths as president trump plans to visit flood damaged areas tomorrow. today a chemical flant flooded in the storm exploded for the second time, sending fire shooting into the sky. "abc 7 news" reporter katie marzullo is live in san jose with more on how the south bay suffered. >> reporter: ama, we crashed the wedding, but the sign on the corner you will see in a few seconds. it reads 86 degrees, which is by far the most comfortable temperature of the day but it did come too late for some, too late for the wedding party that had to suffer through the outdoor wedding photo shoot. >> no, no, not in the church. >> reporter: they may be the hottest nully weds in san jose. >> i couldn't stop sweating. i didn't know if it was because i was nervous or it was super hot. >> open in san jose through monday. this one hovering at 65 degrees. you would think an ice cream truck would be a big hit in the heat, but that's apparently not the case. >> no sale. over 90%. >> reporter: he said triple digit temperatures keep everyone indoors. in san jose, katie marzullo, "abc 7 news" yeah, a lot of people trying to stay inside to beat the heat. let's get to "abc 7 news" meteorologist sandhya patel to find out if we're going to be cooling off at all in the next couple of days. >> reporter: you will get some relief, ama, but not until sunday. let's start with the now. look at these temperatures. right now 82 in san francisco. regard to sleep in that kind of weather, especially since homes don't have ac here. mountain view 82. if you are inland like brentwood where it is 90 degrees, still hot, at least you have the ac running. obviously we're retaining some of the heat from the summer scorcher today, and when you take a look as to what is going to happen tomorrow you will notice the temperatures are going to rapidly rice in concord, starting off at 74 degree you will be reeling by 1:00 in the triple digits already and peak at 113 degrees. that is excessively hot. this dangerous heat wave will continue as we head into saturday. as you look at live doppler 7 right now, you will see why. there isn't any fog. we don't even have a sea breeze. we don't have a downsloping wind, off-shore flow, and that's been responsible for pushing some of the smoke from the fires burning in oregon, northern california and to the east of us towards the bay area, which is why it has been so bad in terms of our air quality today. smoky sunset from our mount tam cam as you look. sun was going down and you saw that reddish hue along with the heat creating some of the haze. the combination of the smoke and haze creating that sunset you did experience today. you will see sunset like that again tomorrow as the air quality will remain poor. spare the air alert up for your saturday, unhealthy is inland, east bay and santa clara valley. you want to limit driving and outdoor activity also. red flag warning for fire danger until 9:00 for the hill toms. gusty winds in the hills with the low humidity, just the wrong combination. keep that in mind. from the south bay camera, a pretty view of san francisco. here is a look at the forecast. dangerous heat wave into the holiday weekend, more records will be shattered particularly tomorrow, and cooler at the coast and bay sunday and labor day. temperatures first thing in the morning, low 60s to upper 70s. it will start out warm and clear so it won't take a lot for you to really spike into the afternoon hours. look at these temperature also. gilroy 110 degrees, los gatos 108. 104 in san jose. 101 in sunnyvale on the peninsula. in menlo park, loss at owes. redwood city 104 degrees. it will be warm, but better than being inland where it is really horribly hot. so this is really your escape. 82 daly city. 96 downtown san francisco. and in the north bay plenty of triple digits from 110 in santa rosa. 106 in san rafael in the east bay. berkley, oakland, richmond all in the low 100s, 102 in fremont. inland areas, if you are out and about, i can't enpta simphasize enough, don't wait until you're parch to drink water. here are some labor day weekend tips for the hot weather. limit outdoor activity, drink plenty of weather and don't leave kids and pets inside the cars. scottish highland games in pleasanton taking place. a warm start tomorrow morning. heating up quickly. summer sizzle, expect delays on the bay bridge tomorrow. caltrans plans to begin blasting away what is left of the supports for the old eastern span. no cars will be allowed on the bay bridge for about 30 minutes
