abc7 news starts right now with live breaking news. >> the breaking news is in the east bay. right now a brushfire in vallejo is threatening four homes. firefighters say it is burning near ascot parkway and hawsbury. it is about five acres and burning up a steep hill. >> earlier today sky 7hd was near a 45-acre fire near ascot and georgia street. firefighters kept it from reaching nearby houses. we will bring you developments in the newscast and updates on twitter at abc7 news bay area. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. our other top story, police say there is a fake officer complete with an official looking suv stalking people in the east bay. >> scary. an employee at lawrence livermore laboratory says she was followed all the way to tracy by what appeared to be a livermore police suv. >> sergio is live with more. sergio? >> well, right now investigators are trying to rule out the possibility that this suspicious suv did not belong to a different police agency and someone was simply driving home along the same route. one thing is for sure, livermore police know that it was not one of their vehicles. the reason why they know it wasn't one of their officers is because the livermore police department only uses ford explorer suvs. and all patrol vehicles have distinctive black and white paint schemes and that's not the kind of vehicle that was following the lab employee. >> that white tahoe and suburban had a police light bar on top and unlike the real patrol cars with the simple lettering, the suspicious vehicle had the words capitalized and uncapitalized. the caller says the suv followed her for miles along greenville and tesla roads all the way to tracy. because she was unnerved she never went home and pulled off on a private driveway and the suspicious suv drove by. the next day at livermore labs, the ply yes sir was passed out out -- the flier was passed out. >> another employee came forward and reported that they saw a similar vehicle -- they saw what they believe was the same vehicle described traveling northbound on the road. >> investigators are hoping anyone who spots the suspicious suv around the labs and around downtown will give police a call. and if they ever think a phony cop is trying to pull them over they should call 9-1-1 immediately. >> abc7 news. the friday commute has come and gone and drivers came away fairly unscathed considering the approach to the golden gate bridge is closed. here is a live look at the bridge right now. you can see cars going on over there. abc7 news reporter is live in the presidio with how people managed to get around tonight. katie? >> ama we are over looking doyle drive. as you can see it is nonstop activity on the construction site. things are on schedule. i am told just one hiccup. the rain did delay some striping on the bridge overnight. that work is now done. a few bumps in the road for drivers as well, namely those from out of town. the road block on richardson avenue came as a surprise to some. >> i don't know what doyle is. i just know how to get up to santa rosa and that is go going across the golden gate bridge. >> in his defense he lives in phoenix. rahine lives in london and was caught off guard. >> it is a big surprise. it is like an adventure. it took us 90 minutes for a 15-minute drive on the way in. >> he likely had better luck leaving san francisco. check out the traffic northbound across the golden gate bridge at 6:15 in the evening. wide open. >> the southbound traffic around the same time almost at a stand still. the ferries turned out to be a good alternative in part because of added service across the bay. they report 1,000 extra riders from the larkspur terminal in the morning commute. >> andy hunt says his regular 5:30 a.m. boat had 33 people on board versus the usual 10. >> it was funny. everyone was like who is everybody else on the ferry? >> and on his way home he was stuck in a very long line. >> never seen it this long. you know me. half the distance -- less than half the distance. >> he easy looy made it on board. overall, smooth sailing on this rare commute day road close -- closure. abc7 fuse. >> and then there is this. the doyle drive closure stopped a suspected it drunk driver trying to get away from a highway patrol. authorities say edward john wong crashed his mustang through a closed toll gate arm on the dwolden gate bridge. he was boxed in by a line of chp cruisers who were stationed at the closure. they had to break his passenger window in order to arrest him. >> to get through all of the traffic this weekend be sure to download the abc7 news app. it is free from your app store. you can enable the push alerts all weekend. a bart train narrowly missed a woman on the tracks. she was trapped under the train platform on the north concord martinez station. they closed the station while the rescue workers pulled her to safety. police say she was conscious the whole time and taken to the hospital. they don't suspect any foul play. it looks like she just fell. >> now to the weather. the drizzle is done. but for how long. th is -- this is a live look. sandhya patel is here now. >> for the weekend it is gone. let me show you live doppler 7hd right now, and here is what is in store. we have quite a bit of low-level moisture still. we are starting to see the cloud cover move in basically to the for the bay, excuse me and more cloud cover just off the san mateo and the san francisco coastline. we will see all of that filling in. as we look at the rainfall map, .05 of an inch in oakland and up to .06 in fairfield and since 5:00 p.m. yesterday. there was just enough to water your gardens. .02 in santa rosa and a 12th of an inch in mount saint huh lena. i will let you know about changes that are in store for not just the weekend but beyond coming up. ama? >> thank you sandhya. the largest employee's union has rejected a new four-year contract. the action canceled the tentative agreement that stopped a strike just over a week ago. right now 9,000 county workers including 9-1-1 dispatchers and hospital lab technicians are working without a contract. pay, staffing and health care contributions are the sticking points. the union's bargaining team will meet tomorrow to discuss the next step. forensic investigators have confirmed that a gun found in the bay was the one used to shoot and kill a woman. francisco sanchez was charged with the murder of kate steinle. today the sheriff defended his actions keeping sanchez in san francisco after an arrest instead of turning him over to immigration officials. he says ice didn't make the proper request. >> had ice sought the requested legal order or warrant, the san francisco sheriff's department naturally and will always comply and would have complied if the legal order or warrant was presented to us. >> ice responds saying it strongly disagreed with him adding despite a formal request from the sheriff's department on his impending release without notifying ice. >> he has been vocal about the shooting blaming an unsecure border. trump held a fuse conference in los angeles after meeting with the families of americans who were killed by undocumented immigrants. one of the families lost a son in san francisco. trump says mexico and other governments are taking advantage of our border and immigration laws. >> they are sending criminals to us. we are putting the criminals in jail oftentimes after they have killed somebody or hurt somebody. >> the father of drew rosenburg met with trump. he was killed by an undocumented immigrant in 2010 after being hit on his motorcycle and then run over several times. the man served 43 days this jail and was deported after a long court battle. don rosenburg doesn't want the undocumented immigrants to drive. >> all i was hearing was well these people work. they contribute and they have to take their kids to school. that was a reason that it was okay that they killed people. >> he better stop talking about our pome the brothers and sisters. we are not criminal. >> he calls us criminals and rapists. we are none of the above. >> they protested outside the news conference. a much bigger protest is expected to greet trump at his stop in phoenix tomorrow. texting calls and even jumping on staig. next at 11:00 rude audience members pushing actors to their breaking points. why people can't seem to put away their phones. >> and snatched right out of her hand. the search for a theet who peddled away. >> last night you saw the dark side of squating. now the eye team shows you a squater who is improving we spend a lot of time online around here. but with all this speed from xfinity, it's all good. hey, why don't we do some homework for a change? wow. there are a lot of performers who wish tay guy would zip by and steal phones from people in the audience. it is happening more than often. cell phones interruptiing a performance. you will see what one star's reaction is at the lincoln center in new york. janet is live at the san jose stage company with the story. janet? >> hi dan. well, we are talking about one place where cell phones are absolutely unwanted. it is here at the theater. people tell us they tried to turn off their cell phone before the show, but it goes without fail that somebody forgets cell phoneett cut and one legend -- phone etiquette and one legendary performer did something about it. >> patty ray pone -- patty la pone had enough when she saw someone texting during her performance. she snatched the phone away. >> she was siting in the second seat. she was unoblivious to everybody except herself and her phone. >> we talked with patrons tonight who said they paid good money to see a live show. all too often they get disrupted by someone near them. >> when it is dark in the theater and your cell phone light goes on, then you are pretty much distracted by the cell phone light and not watching the performance tht theater. >> yeah you are at a show. enjoy the show. >> randal king, the co-founder of the company said while it makes it distracting he is not entirely disenchanted with the cell phone dependancy. he knows some things can't be replaced even by a phone. >> where do they go to get a visceral experience? it is live theater. >> cast members say ultimately it comes down to respect. >> for me i think it is less about losing their manors when it comes to live theater and thinking about other people in general. >> and that means even if it is just for a few hours focus on what is in front of you and not what is in your hand. in san jose abc7 news. >> last night dan noyes shows you how squaters are causing a crime wave in oakland. steven started squating in one of the highest crime areas eight years ago. he has groomed the yard and cleaned up the abandoned house. he hopes to legally own it soon thanks to adverse possession. a person can claim title to a property if the land has been occupied and claimed for the period of five years continuously and if they have paid all of the taxes. >> it goes back way back to the founding of the u.s. where people would stake claims to land and then they would do whatever they would, mine, farm, ranch. they were presumed to be the owners. >> dicaprio researched the area and found a home where the owner passed away with no surviving heirs. veterinarians on the san diego zoo are keeping an eye on a possibly pregnant panda. they shot this peck tour of an ultrasound exam of bi-yun. she was art officially inseminated a few months ago. she has six cubs and staff says she is nesting and spending time in her panda bedroom. we'll see. time to check the weather into the weekend. >> has this rain lifted? sandhya patel has the forecast. >> it is long gone. let me show you a beautiful time lapse from the east bay hills camera. as we look toward the golden gate bridge from earlier this afternoon and the evening hours we had low-level moisture. there was pretty looking clouds. as we look at live doppler 7hd, most of that cloud cover actually cleared away. except it is starting to reform and you will notice that the clouds are pretty thick around santa rosa and cloverdale and ukiah. it is overcast. all of this will push back in and by morning it will look gray again. we are not expecting showers. upper 50s to the mid60s. a live picture from the exploratorium camera showing you a nice view of the financial district. low clouds and fog. mild to warm for your weekend and 90s return next week. we will be back up to where we were. it was nice to have a cool break with the low-pressure system and wet weather. the low is lifting out of here. we don't have any moisture to speak of. we are getting back to normal which will be the night and morning low clouds and fog giving way to morning sun. if you are going out for a run or a bike ride, it is going to be quite nice. especially with the overcast skies or if you are taking part in the avon walk for breast cancer. 50s and 60s to start off. and then for the afternoon mostly sunny. the weather is going to be quite mild no matter where you are and what your outdoor activities are. just get ready for a nice weekend. temperatures first thing in the morning mid50s to the low 60s. as i mentioned you will start out with the overcast conditions. then for the afternoon pleasant. in the south bay warmer. gilroy 86. morgan hill 84. 83 in los gatos. santa clara, upper 80s. sunscreen weather and 77 in redwood city. 80 in loss altos. 66 on the coast and 76 in san mateo. daly city will not have the typical fog you will see in the summertime. you will get it back for the afternoon on sunday. 64 tomorrow afternoon and 68 downtown san francisco. north bay a few clouds and lots of sun. 80s around ukiah cloverdale and clear lake. 64 at bodega bay and out toward the wine country. 78 napa and 75 vallejo. in the east bay mild and cooler than average. 73 in oakland and 76 fremont. inland spots with not hot but warm and sunny. 82 concord and 83 livermore. a look at the accu-weather seven-day forecast. the temperatures will remain mild through the weekend. mid60s to the mid80s. a slight dip for the second half of the weekend. the numbers will come back up into the 90s. you will see the mid-nineties. the summer spread is back in business again, he is out as ceo of read it. they began to call for her resignation last week after the sudden firing of a well-liked employee. she says she is stepping down because she disagrees with the board of directors' vision for the future. she will still consult for the board. the force is getting stronger tonight. newbie hyped the scenes -- new behind the scenes footage of "star wars" 7 was shown at comic-con in san diego and it is spreading faster than millenium falcon. there are new creatures and sets. it comes out december 18th. disney owns the "star wars" franchise and is the parent company of abc7. that's going to be good. >> definitely. rick quan is in for larry beil. >> and you have a busy day. you have a lot to talk about. >> the force is with the giants. they took advantage of the last placed phillies. it included a splash landing by more than ♪ ♪ one day a rider made a decision. the decision to ride on and save money. he decided to save money by switching his motorcycle insurance to geico. there's no shame in saving money. ride on, ride proud. geico motorcycle great rates for great rides. tonight's giants-phillies game figured to be a pitcher's dual between former world series mvp's bum garner and cole hamils. hot dogs dogs should not be eaten with a helmet off. matt bum was back to his dominating self. the giants broke it open in the fourth. angel drives in a pair with this base hit up the middle. and then with the bases loaded and hunter pence takes him for a grand slam. in the seventh he added two more runs as this ball bounces off the right field bleachers and into mccovey cove. the giants finished with a season high 15 runs and 22 hits. he was determined to get his souvenir and did despite getting all wet. oakland was at cleveland. the former a's outfielder had a chance to say hi to his old team. but moss was not so happy to face gravin who struck him out twice. he fields the big chopper bear handed -- bare handed. after he left in the sixth with the bases loaded things got ugly with back to back walks. then two more runs with this single. ittiff-1 is the final. danny salazar got the victory and he came within one out of a complete game. a month after winning the nba championship, would you believe the warriors were back in action tonight against cleveland?
